The Carpet Bag Correspondence, Russell J. Desimone, Erik J. Chaput
Dorr Scholarship
In late December 1842 and early 1843 there appeared several newspaper articles in the Providence Journal under the caption of “The Carpet Bag” Correspondence. In all four letters were published in the local newspapers all claiming to be from the carpet bag. Two of the letters were written by Dutee J. Pearce of Newport to Thomas Dorr the leader of the suffrage movement in Rhode Island. The other two letters were written to Dorr by Dr. J.A. Brown and Louis Lapham. The second Pearce letter is interesting because it discusses giving the Black community a jury trial.

Modifications To The Spiral Array: A Computational Approach To Music Analysis, Rose Bittle
Modifications To The Spiral Array: A Computational Approach To Music Analysis, Rose Bittle
DePaul Discoveries
The Spiral Array is a geometric model of musical tonality and exists as a tool in computer-aided music analysis. The model was first published in 2000 by Elaine Chew, PhD, in her thesis, Towards a Mathematical Model of Tonality. This project aimed to restructure the Spiral Array, limiting user ambiguity and optimizing the application of musical key finding. The existing model defines pitch, chord, and key location to form a series of spirals dependent on a set of flexible weights. In our research we were able to identify potential issues with the pitch definitions themselves and experiment with methods …

Ngo Advocacy And Immigration Policy Reform In San Diego, Benicio Benavides-Garb
csuglobaljournal
The field of immigrant policy is a highly contested space, and among the primary actors involved in immigrant advocacy are non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Throughout California, NGOs are involved at the local, state, national, and international levels. In addition to introducing some of the directions being taken by NGOs in the San Diego area, this paper will examine the work of the San Diego City Council. The included NGOs were selected based on their intentional work in providing “systems-level” support, such as progressive immigration policy reform and advocacy. These organizations are the following: the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans …
Laying The Groundwork For Liberatory Expressive Arts Research: A Queer Review, Robyn E. Ginsberg
Laying The Groundwork For Liberatory Expressive Arts Research: A Queer Review, Robyn E. Ginsberg
Expressive Therapies Theses
The goal of this thesis was to reveal the interconnectedness of disparate discourse across diverse disciplines and locate it within one queer domain. The intersection of (expressive) art and (community/participatory) action is a space within which queer collaboration can take place. It is a space that can accommodate and energize non-normative idea generation and exchange which can mobilize queer resistance to create societal change (Fernández & Fine, 2024; Rutten, 2016). By engaging with interdisciplinary literature and situating conceptual frameworks in dialogue this review provides a foundation for liberatory expressive arts research (LExAR) and practice. Key themes include: centering queer and …

Kusamakura And Bunchō, Natsume Sōseki, Umeji Sasaki, Hyakusui Hirafuku, Paul Royster
Zea E-Books Collection
Kusamakura—literally “grass pillow”—is a Japanese expression for being “on the road,” away from home, relying on the hospitality of others. Natsume Sōseki’s novel concerns a painter-artist on holiday at a hot springs hotel where he is the lone guest. His encounters with the locals—including a tea-shop matron, a drunken barber, a wood-gatherer, an abbot of a Zen monastery, the hotel proprietor, and, most intriguingly, his lovely enigmatic divorced daughter—prompt reflections and musings on the nature of art and its relation to real life. How can one experience life and still represent it in literature or art? Doesn’t art require …

The Impact Of The Translated Frankenstein Story On The Child›S Psyche And Thinking, Riham Halawani
Al Jinan الجنان
In this study, the researcher explored the impact of Frankenstein’s translated story on children. Choosing a topic or idea in translating children’s stories is likely to cause children to not respond to it and therefore not read it. It is therefore imperative for the translator to consider the elements of the story in the translation process, including the subject and idea, characters, environment, and style. Accordingly, the researcher sought to highlight the psychological and intellectual effects that this translated story has on children and its reflection on society. The researcher also mentioned the technique used in translating the proper names …
The Factors Behind The Weakness And Decline Of The Janissary Corps: Economic, Social, Political And Psychological (1512 - 1826 Ad, Ali Omar
Al Jinan الجنان
The Janissaries turned from an army protecting the Ottoman state and a source of its strength into a source of corruption, weakness and competition for it. They directed their weapons with which they defeated their enemies against the chests of the sultans and the Grand Vizier, permitted the killing of innocents, and subjected the markets to burning, looting and plundering, which caused the state to be covered with blood and weakness and the conquests to stop.
This backwardness was a natural result of several economic factors, including the Jews’ deception of the currency that was paid (salaries) to the Janissaries …

In our modern era, we have reached documentation on computers, which represents a significant shift in the way we document due to its advanced features that surpass human intellect. In this research, I aimed to shed light on a new literary genre that emerged from the computer two decades ago and can only …

Movable and immovable cultural heritage in time of war benefits from the protection prescribed for civilian objects; hence, it must not be struck or attacked by warring states, in accordance with international humanitarian law applicable in times of armed conflict. What Can The Active Learning Teacher Learn From Dramatic Arts Practice?, Strutts Psyridis
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
This presentation explores how active learning pedagogy can be informed by practices in the dramatic arts, particularly film editing and theatre direction. Drawing on an autobiographical lens, it argues that teaching and creative practice share a performative, interpretive, and collaborative structure. Concepts such as facilitative teaching, embodied cognition, intuition, and kinesthetic empathy are used to reframe the teacher as an active orchestrator rather than a passive facilitator. Through analysis of narrative construction, interpretive space, and audience engagement, the paper highlights parallels between editing and classroom practice. It proposes that effective teaching operates as a dynamic, multi-dimensional, and emotionally responsive creative …

Bridging Classical Rhetoric And Ai: A Systematic Framework For Developing Authorial Voice Through Large Language Models, Daniel Plate
Theses
This project addresses critical gaps in AI-assisted writing by developing the first systematic framework that integrates classical rhetorical principles with modern large language model capabilities for authorial voice development. The primary focus is on creating reliable methods for stylistic control through strategic AI collaboration rather than ad hoc prompting approaches. The project develops a comprehensive coding system for analyzing prose style, creates ten distinct authorial personas, and establishes a dual curation methodology that structures both stylistic analysis and content preparation. Implementation through the AI Writing Guide website provides practical tools including prompt templates, annotated examples, and instructional materials that demonstrate …
