This exploratory paper contributes to the development of relational design as a methodology by examining how relational design unfolds – or fails to unfold – within the context of the development and research project X. This article explores how norm-critical design can contribute to the relational turn in design, drawing on a previous study of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children survey. While relational design emphasizes contextualization, interdependencies, and evolving relationships, norm-critical design provides tools to identify, visualize, and challenge embedded norms within these relationships. By transforming survey questions into design concepts, this study demonstrates how norm-critical design materializes implicit assumptions, making them visible for critique and reflection. The findings illustrate that surveys are not neutral data collection tools but performative instruments shaping relationships, self-perceptions, and societal norms. This paper explores intergenerational mental well-being through sensorial play between children and remote grandparents. With increasing physical separation due to transnational family networks, maintaining these relationships is vital for mental health. While digital communication tools help, excessive screen use negatively impacts children's well-being. Through three case studies, we exemplify relational design sensitivities by engaging participants in co-creation, adaptive improvisation, and networked interactions through our design process. We investigate how relational design approaches combined with sensorial design could enhance connection beyond screens, emphasizing the role of embodied, multisensory engagement in intergenerational bonds.

As Relational Design (RD) grows in popularity, Casual Loop Diagrams (CLD) can complement RD in systemic analysis by visualizing relationships between variables. This study integrates CLD with RD within the context of longevity planning, which considers dimensions of financial, social and physical wellness. This paper explores relational fragments from Nordic mythology and folklore through a critical fabulation that was crafted as a situated co-labouring and embodied auto-ethnographic designerly approach to expanding our design practice towards relationality. Perspectives on time within interaction design research have extended beyond material embodiments, such as standard clocks, to exploring alternative designs and situating these in cultural practices and relations. We investigate examples of how time has been expressed in a series of object-based artworks that represent time otherwise, highlighting how they use a variety of material forms to engage with social, political, and contextually performative issues. The use of geopolymers in creative practices, encompassing the fields of art, craft, and design, is still relatively unexplored. This paper introduces early explorations focused on geopolymer extrusion 3D printing in a creative studio context. This paper introduces a design research tool that integrates anthropological perspectives on non-human agency to reimagine biodiversity in garden design. While gardens comprise a minor portion of global biomass, they are critical sites for urban biodiversity and multispecies interaction. A central challenge lies in learning to attune to non-human actors. Building on theories of ecological inter-dependence in the Anthropocene, we ask how such perspectives can be operationalised in design practice. Design scholars are advocating for building a deeper and more nuanced power literacy when applying participatory approaches in mental healthcare. To understand the relationality of these actors, this study discusses how the models of reflection and diffraction can help in analysing a collective process of doing. This study investigates the impact of the South Korean TV show Catch! Teenieping: Fairies of Emotion and its associated merchandise on children's play and values. A survey of 100 mothers and an analysis of existing literature reveal the excessive time and expenses that children, particularly young girls, spend on Teenieping play, in spite of the play being primarily imitative and potentially limiting developmental benefits. Toys as situated within the relational ontologies of children includes how more-than-human relations are imagined and valued through play. Motivated by a concern for a damaged environment, we critique a selection of existing toys intended for outdoor play and fabulate other versions based upon alternative relations. From the detailing of six redesigns through text and collage, we foreground generative pathways for how children, and adults, might relate differently to nature. These pathways are presented as questions prompted by the toys. This exploratory research contributes to the imagining of multispecies worlds and the agency of children in toying with more-than-human relations.
