Researching Paraguayan Guarani: The Minoritized Language Of The Majority, Josefina Bittar Phd Candidate

LAII Events

Paraguayan Guarani, one of the native languages of Paraguay, is spoken by more than 80% of the country’s population. However, despite government and societal efforts, Spanish remains the language of prestige, required for education opportunities and social mobility. In this presentation, Josefina Bittar will discuss the characteristics of Guarani-Spanish bilingualism in Paraguay, the importance of documenting linguistic practices in the country, and the role of researchers in challenging the population’s internalized prejudices about languages and their speakers.

This study was conducted to find out the frequency of using realistic Assessment in the Jordanian public schools, and teacher’s attitudes towards it. A total of (176) teachers selected randomly from (16) Public Schools in Amman participated in the study. The study utilized a questionnaire and focused on three main areas of interest.The findings showed teachers use of realistic Assessment sufficiently, and they expressed positive responses regarding using realistic Assessment in teaching, while it showed several problems preventing teachers’ attempts to utilize realistic Assessment such as the large number of students in the classes, over loaded teacher, and lack of …

This study compared the perceptions of the novice and the experienced teachers regarding the experienced teachers' role in mentoring novice teachers and to what extent experienced teachers practiced that role. To achieve the goals of the study, a Likert-like two-part questionnaire consisting of 43 items was developed. The questionnaire covered five dimensions namely: Education, class management, resources, relation, and management tasks. A cluster sample of three Directorates out of seven of Irbid District of Education was chosen. his study aimed at investigating the extent and the spread factors related to women, which cause husband’s violence against his wife as perceived by the psychological, social, and legal experts who work with bittered women.

The sample of the study consisted of (54) social and psychological workers, and legal experts who answered 62-item questionnaire that covers four domains: personal, health, social, and economic aspect. The results of this analysis revealed that the degree of women–related factors that cause husband’s violence against his wife was moderate. This study aimed to explore thinking styles and the The Big Five Personality Traits among student teachers in specialty classroom teacher in Jordanian universities.It also aimed to explore the relationship between them.

The sample consisted of (109) male and female student teachers, randomly selected from the student population (N=342). To achieve the study goal, two scales were used to measure the thinking styles and the Big Five Personality Traits. Results show that student teachers have thinking styles (legislative, executive, liberal, hierarchical, anarchic, and external), and the dominance of personal factor (agreeableness) of members of the sample. This research tends to discuss the image of Judaism the way it was represented in the pre-Islamic era of Jahili poetry texts. First, it defines Judaism from a linguistic and a semantic perspective. Later, it shows how Judaism spreading the Arabic Peninsula. Then, it presents some Jewish religion’s concepts related to the torah, the Jewish prophets and poets, the ancient Jewish architecture, forts and ships. Next, it deals with Jewish brewery coinage, armor and weapons industry. Finally, it presents some Jewish poets of that era.

This paper essentially examines Tariq Bin Timur’s character and his achievements during the reign of his brother Sultan Sa’id Bin Taimur (1932 – 1971).

The paper also highlights the motives behind his departure of the Sultanate in 1966 and announcing his discretion to oust the Sultan on the grounds that he was behind the backwardness of the Sultanate.To this end, Tariq made a statement in which he called on the Omani people for support, with a view of ousting the Sultan. Focusing on the intersection of collective memory, technology, and African American popular music, this paper use aspects of the sonic narratives in Janelle Monáe’s Metropolis-Suites I–V to introduce core concepts of Afrofuturism. The paper challenges the positioning of collective memory as being exterior to the sphere of individual cognitive memory. By inhabiting past, present, and future at once, Afrofuturism is able to critically revisit collective memory not only as a social framework but also as actual individual memory. Afrofuturist discourse questions the status of the human being by examining African Americans as always already robotic, and posits African American …

Speaker: Dr. Jovino "Jovi" G. Miroy is a playwright and a teacher of Philosophy at the Ateneo School of Humanities for 26 years. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy and M.A. in Philosophy at the Ateneo De Manila University. He received his Ph.D from the Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven (Belgium). He co-hosts the radio program "Lundagin mo, Beybeh" and "RK Asks" at Radyo Katipunan 87.9FM. The former is a Philosophy show, the latter a Science, Technology, and Society program.

The heart of this book is the biography of a manuscript codex, British Library Royal MS 13 E IV: the Latin Chronicle (Creation to 1300) of Guillaume de Nangis, copied in the abbey library of St-Denis-en-France. This volume was used as evidence in the legal and political battles of the French royal family until it came into the treasure of Jean, duc de Berry. In 1416 it vanished from Paris and France. Modern British scholarship has placed it in the library of King Henry VIII, whose autograph notes appear in its margins. The authors show how it traveled from one …

In 2014, members of the NCTE/CCCC Latinx Caucus began contributing citations to a shared Google Document (GDoc) that suggested a relatively significant contribution of scholarship to the field of Rhetoric and Composition studies. Scholars of color have argued that rhetoric and composition scholarship fails to represent diversity in academic publications (Baca; Banks; Jones Royster; Pimentel; Ruíz). This study examines statistical data arrived at through analysis of the NCTE/CCCC Latinx Caucus Bibliography, with survey and interview data from Latinx scholars providing important context about publishing for people of color.

Improving teaching practices in higher education requires an understanding of the impact of pedagogical innovations in student learning through the analysis of the theoretical implications and the articulation of creativity, motivation and learning. This article describes a pedagogical experience that integrates the use of Photovoice, a strategy originally designed to combine photography with digital narration and social participation. This experience was implemented in an online master's course for educators at a southern university in the United States.
