Trinity Monotheism And Daniel Howard-Snyder's "Diminished Divinity Problem", Kevin Watson Jr.
The Corinthian
In this paper, I summarize and defend a model of the Trinity proposed by William Lane Craig and J.P. Moreland, which is called trinity monotheism. An important element of this model is that there are two ways to be divine; either one must be a proper part of the Trinity or the Trinity itself. I answer one objection in Daniel Howard-Snyder’s thorough critique of this model. He calls this objection the Diminished Divinity Problem and supposes that if the property of divinity is exemplified in two different ways, either by being a proper part of the Trinity or by being …

Examining The Relationship Between Perfect Pitch, Auditory Processing Disorders, And Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sarah G. Clegg

In this paper, I will examine the relationship between perfect pitch, auditory processing disorders, and autism spectrum disorders and how this potential relationship affects the music education of students living with these conditions. Thorough and analytical perspectives are presented on one or more of these diagnoses, providing the opportunity to make thoughtful and relevant connections to students inside and outside of the classroom. Dohn, Garza-Villareal, Heaton, and Vust (2012) and Jiang, Liu, Wan, and Jiang (2015) discuss their research on the heightened presence of autism traits in musicians with perfect pitch and the idea of pitch processing and intonation in …

Accommodations For Underserved Students In Music Education, William M. Refuss

This research examines socioeconomic status and its relation to accommodating students with special needs where access to specific technologies and equipment is limited. For students who need costly accommodations where socioeconomic status affects access, other methods of accommodation need to be found. This paper focuses on the specific goals in a music education classroom and how students with disabilities struggle to achieve such goals without accommodations, as well as examining different personnel and technologies in which access is limited when examining the financial impact. Such accommodations include music therapists assigned to the school, inclusion classrooms, modified instruments, and other technologies …

Shipwrecked Spouses: Leukothea’S Veil And Marital Reunion In The Odyssey, David West

This article proposes a new view of the mysterious incident in which Odysseus wears Leukothea’s veil to make it safely ashore in Odyssey 5, arguing that it bears directly on one of the epic’s fundamental themes, the reunion of the hero with Penelope. Through an analysis of the traditional referentiality of the veil in the Homeric epics and of Odyssean similes associating shipwreck with family reunion, it is shown that Leukothea’s veil identifies Odysseus with Penelope while both signifying and magically effecting the recovery of chastity, and ultimately of his marriage.

Messalina’S Moveable Domus: Landscape And Memory In Annals 11, Caitlin Gillespie

This article addresses the intersection between landscape, memory, and power in Messalina’s movements through Rome, as recorded in Tacitus’ Annals. Messalina’s journeys demonstrate her appropriation of spatial memory and her transgressions of gender and status, as she attempts to relocate the imperial domus to the home of Gaius Silius. Reading the imperial domus as a kind of landscape opens new avenues for interpretation. Tacitus recognizes the relationship between the imperial mother and the Palatine domus, and connects Messalina to the space itself. He thereby prompts readers to consider the fragile nature of imperial power and dynastic succession as …

The paper focuses on Euripides’ Medea and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to analyze how tragedy and comedy address female freedom. In a history of drama, women tend to be underrepresented and submissive to their fellow male players. This paper examines how gender dynamics work in theatre, with a focus on how men use their speech to inhibit the autonomy of women. Utilizing gender scholarship from Judith Butler, the argument justifies Medea’s seemingly horrific actions and spotlights Helena as the driver of her play. This literature review aims to analyze the influence of music as a learning tool throughout the process of second language acquisition. Through the compilation and analysis of recent research conducted on the academic, cultural, and linguistic impacts of music on the four modes of language, which include reading, speaking, writing, and listening, this thesis will demonstrate the effects of incorporating music into the second language learning curriculum. This Is What Makes Us Girls: Recovering The Feminine Voice In Nabokov's Lolita, Amanda Wulforst
English Theses
Sigmund Freud established psychoanalysis as an attempt to uncover the inner mechanics of the human mind and treat mental neuroses. With this theory, Freud asserts that intrapsychic tensions between the conscious and unconscious can produce psychological issues. For instance, Freud addresses two types of emotional responses to loss in “Mourning and Melancholia.” In this essay, Freud states that mourning is a normal, conscious reaction to the libido’s forced detachment from a loved object. Conversely, Freud classifies melancholia as the extreme anguish over a lost ideal deeply buried in the unconscious; without an object-cathexis, the newly freed libido forms an identification …
