Peer Review In Academic Writing: Different Perspectives From Instructors And Students, Rashad Ahmed

This article employed a mixed-method approach to examine peer review through the eyes of writing instructors and first-year college students, including native and non-native speakers of English. A total of 162 participants took part in the study, including 124 students and 20 full time writing instructors. The quantitative analysis involved multiple chi-square tests and Fisher’s exact tests with Bonferroni adjustments for Type-I error. The qualitative data were examined for common themes and summarized in categories illustrated by participants’ quotes. Several studies have shown that marginalized populations, especially those of non-white race/ethnicity, have an increased risk of having infants born with severe birth defects. Existing hypotheses from the scientific literature on the topic of birth defects have primarily suggested that these trends may be the result of differential genetic susceptibilities within certain racial groups, a theory that reifies the (currently disproven) biological basis of race. Bisexuality is an identity and epistemology that has been underutilized across queer theory and sexuality studies. In an effort to bridge that gap, this thesis attempts to intertwine bisexuality theory with queer theory to highlight the theoretical strength they offer one another. Further, this paper examines the ways in which bisexuality haunts and is haunted by mononormativity, and the ways in which bisexuality is monstrous. This analysis aims to gain insight into migrant stigmatization and the devaluation of humanitarian aid labor. Building off previous feminist scholarship on unpaid labor, this thesis seeks to add to our understanding of the dynamics of gendered devaluation of not only humanitarian volunteer labor, but also humanitarian aid support to stigmatized populations. This thesis examines how both late Victorian Anglo-Jews and Gentiles used rhetoric of race science and Jewish pathology to encode lines of difference, as well as the relationship between these discourses. My first chapter analyzes the role of Gentile discourse of disease and disability as the foundation of late Victorian anti-Semitism. My second chapter focuses on Jewish ‘expert’ engagement with race science. As this project is primarily concerned with textual investigation, philological analysis of Vergil and Ovid’s texts takes center stage and is supplemented by contemporary material evidence and secondary scholarship in foundation narratology, identity, and political theory. In most interpretations, Helen of Troy’s beauty makes her a vain, promiscuous, and dangerous woman. This is the Helen that patriarchal societies have written into existence and passed on to later generations, but it is not the Helen that appears in the Iliad. Puerto Rico’s ongoing economic crisis and the inadequate emergency response to the devastation of Hurricane Maria are deeply tied to the island’s neo-colonial political arrangement with the United States. The purpose of this project is to examine gothic influences in contemporary horror cinema of the 2010s. To fulfill this purpose, the study employs comparative film analysis methods to analyze The Babadook (2014), The Invitation (2015), and Crimson Peak (2015) in order to identify intertextual gothic references in the cinematography, mise en scène, and narratives of the films. Specifically, this project examines the haunted house trope in the horror genre as characterized by the presence of ghosts and the personification of the setting. Since the late twentieth century, Scotland has undergone a series of political changes. I argue that a consequence of these changes has been increased support for a separate national Scottish identity. By analyzing competing visions of this identity through the tourism industry and Gaelic revival, this IS shows the complexities of this move towards nationalism. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been one of those new voices in Congress, advocating for progressive policies such as the Green New Deal, the abolition of ICE, and universal healthcare. This study sought to better understand the rhetorical strategies Ocasio-Cortez utilized throughout her first term in Congress to challenge hegemonies. This study examined the effectiveness of written corrective and the role of individual differences (ID) in the uptake of the feedback. Data was taken from a nine-week, English as a foreign language (EFL) writing course from 101 intermediate (n=101) students at a private university in Kobe, Japan. Using an explanatory sequential mixed methods design, quantitative data was first collected concerning writing errors, followed by qualitative semi-structured interviews. Three classes were placed into either two treatment groups (direct and indirect) or a control group, and completed four writing tasks (pre-test, post-test and two delayed post-tests). This article describes a qualitative study of pre-service art education students that was designed to explore relationships between mindfulness, self-inquiry, and artistic practices. The researchers, who are art educators, were curious about how mindfulness practices might connect, overlap or influence the personal artistic practice of the participants. Although mindfulness is often used as an intervention to counter the stresses of school and teaching, mindfulness can also be thought of as a counter cultural phenomenon that explores possibilities of a critical pedagogy. ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อค้นหาแนวทางการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับแบรนด์บริการเตรียมความพร้อมวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิต และเพื่อสร้างเรขศิลป์สำหรับแบรนด์บริการเตรียมความพร้อมวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิตโดยใช้วิธีวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน ได้แก่ โดยใช้วิธีสัมภาษณ์แบบรายบุคคลและทำแบบสอบถามกับกลุ่มเป้าหมายโดยเลือกกลุ่มเป้าหมายตัวอย่าง Silver Generation ที่มีอายุ 55 - 59 ปี จำนวน 10 ท่าน ใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาในการบรรยายคุณลักษณะสิ่งที่ต้องการศึกษา ด้วยวิธีการรวมตัวแปร การแจกแจงความถี่ และค่าร้อยละ หลังจากนั้นทำการสรุปผลออกมาเป็นลำดับ จากผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลตามวัตถุประสงค์งานวิจัยพบว่า กลุ่มเป้าหมายตัวอย่างส่วนใหญ่นั้นเลือกสารที่ต้องการจะสื่อ (What to communicate) คือ “Fill Your Soul” โดยมีข้อสนับสนุน(Support) คือ การเตรียมพร้อมก่อนวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิตเพื่อเติมเต็มความสงบสุขในจิตใจ สร้างความรู้สึกอุ่นใจ จิตใจสงบสุข และสนุกในการใช้ชีวิต ซึ่งบุคลิกภาพของการสื่อสารใช้การผสมผสานของบุคลิกภาพสามแบบ คือ มีสีสัน (Colorful), มีชีวิตชีวา (Lively) และฉลาดเฉลียว (Bright) ดังนั้นจึงได้ข้อสรุปในการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับแบรนด์บริการเตรียมความพร้อมวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิตว่าควรใช้องค์ประกอบที่มีชีวิตชีวา สีสันสดใส ดูปลอดภัย ซึ่งให้ความรู้สึกถึงความสนุกในการใช้ชีวิต โดยไร้ความกังวล

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อค้นหาแนวทางการออกแบบกราฟิกสำหรับธุรกิจสัตว์เลี้ยงด้วยกลยุทธ์การตลาดโชคลาง โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน ได้แก่ การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการออกแบบเรขศิลป์จำนวน 3 ท่าน การสนทนากลุ่มระหว่างกลุ่มเป้าหมายจำนวน 5 ท่าน และการใช้แบบสอบถามกลุ่มเป้าหมาย ผู้ที่เลี้ยงสัตว์เลี้ยงจำนวน 15 ท่าน ใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาในการบรรยายคุณลักษณะสิ่งที่ต้องการศึกษา ด้วยวิธีการรวมตัวแปร การแจกแจงความถี่ และค่าร้อยละ หลังจากนั้นทำการสรุปผลออกมาเป็นลำดับ ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลตามวัตถุประสงค์งานวิจัยพบว่า เจ้าของสัตว์เลี้ยงเริ่มหันมาให้ความสนใจเรื่องโชคลางของสัตว์เลี้ยงและ เจ้าของสัตว์เลี้ยงโดยส่วนใหญ่มีพฤติกรรมที่เรียกว่า Pet Humanization หรือการเลี้ยงสัตว์เลี้ยงเหมือนลูก และมีความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับโชคลางหรือสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติ ทำให้ธุรกิจเกี่ยวกับสัตว์เลี้ยงและโชคลางมีแนวโน้มเติบโตมากขึ้น ดังนั้นจึงได้ข้อสรุปในการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับธุรกิจสัตว์เลี้ยงโดยใช้องค์ประกอบด้านความเชื่อในงานออกแบบได้แก่ สีมงคล สิ่งของมงคล สัตว์มงคล และ ตัวเลขมงคล ซึ่งให้ความมงคลทั้งสัตว์เลี้ยงและเจ้าของในทุกด้าน

การวิจัยเรื่องการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ชุมชน : กรณีศึกษาวัฒนธรรมอำเภอภูหลวง จังหวัดเลย มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) หากลยุทธ์เผยแพร่แนวทางในการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ชุมชนอำเภอภูหลวง จังหวัดเลย 2) กำหนดแนวทางในการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ชุมชนอำเภอภูหลวง จังหวัดเลย 3) พัฒนาต้นแบบผลิตภัณฑ์ การดำเนินงานวิจัยใช้วิธีแบบผสม (Mixed Methodology) อาศัยการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) ด้วยการเก็บข้อมูลจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการตลาดและแบรนด์ 5 คน ด้านการออกแบบเรขศิลป์ 5 คน และการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Research) ด้วยการเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่าง จำนวน 100 คน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติเบื้องต้น ค่าร้อยละ (Percentage) แล้วทำการสรุปผล การศึกษาพบว่า กลยุทธ์ในการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ชุมชนอำเภอภูหลวง จังหวัดเลย คือ รูปแบบ Cheer up ที่แสดงความสดใส มีชีวิต มีความน่าสนใจดึงดูด โดยมีกลุ่มเป้าหมายเป็น Gen-Y มีความเป็นตัวเองสูง แนวทางในการออกแบบลักษณะตราสินค้าแบบผสม (Combination Mark) โดยใช้สีที่แสดงอัตลักษณ์ของแบรนด์คือ สีขาว ดำ และสีฟ้า

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาเรื่องการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับร้านอาหารออร์แกนิคเพื่อกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันซีโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหากลยุทธ์และแนวทางการออกแบบร้านอาหารออร์แกนิคเพื่อกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันซีรวมทั้งการศึกษาแนวทางการจัดองค์ประกอบทางเรขศิลป์ เพื่อสร้างภาพลักษณ์ร้านอาหารออร์แกนิคเพื่อกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันซี ขั้นตอนและวิธีการวิจัย โดยเก็บข้อมูลจากประเภทเอกสารงานวิจัย งานวิทยานิพนธ์ ตำราหนังสือ บทความเอกสาร อินเตอร์เน็ต สิ่งพิมพ์ ได้ทำการสัมภาษณ์ และสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก จากประเภทกลุ่มเป้าหมาย และผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางด้านการออกแบบ จากการเก็บข้อมูลที่ได้มานั้น นำมาวิเคราะห์ และสร้างเป็นแบบสอบถาม ทำให้ได้ข้อมูลนำมาดำเนินการออกแบบต่อไป สรุปผลการวิจัยพบว่า สารที่ต้องการจะสื่อสำหรับการออกแบบเรขศิลป์สำหรับร้านอาหารออร์แกนิคเพื่อกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันซีที่ใช้ กับร้านอาหาร คือ Fresh Journey การออกแบบเรขศิลป์ให้กับร้านอาหารสร้างเพื่อให้กลุ่มเจเนอเรชันซี

จากปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมของโลกในปัจจุบัน ทำให้ผู้บริโภครุ่นใหม่มีแนวโน้มการความสนใจและพฤติกรรมการบริโภคที่เปลี่ยนไป โดยกลุ่มคนในช่วงอายุ 25-40 ปีหรือมิลเลนเนียลเจนเนอร์เรชัน ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มคนที่มีรายได้ มีการตัดสินใจซื้อสินค้าอุปโภคบริโภคต่าง ๆ ด้วยตัวเอง ให้ความสำคัญกับเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อมและสนใจถึงที่มาทางด้านจริยธรรมของสินค้าที่ใช้มากขึ้น ว่าเป็นมิตรต่อสังคมและสิ่งแวดล้อมโดยรวมหรือไม่ ไม่ใช่เพียงแต่เรื่องของสีหรือรูปแบบเสื้อผ้าเหมือนที่ผ่านมาเท่านั้น ก่อให้เกิดกลุ่มเป้าหมายใหม่ ได้แก่ กลุ่ม โมเดิร์นเอธิคอลมิลเลนเนียล (Modern Ethical Millennials Consumers) ซึ่งเป็นผู้บริโภคที่นำเอาแนวคิดการบริโภคอย่างยั่งยืนมาเป็นปัจจัยหลักในการตัดสินใจเลือกซื้อสินค้าแฟชั่น จากการสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มเป้าหมาย 6 คน ผู้ถูกสัมภาษณ์จำนวน 5 คน ให้ความเห็นว่า ในประเทศไทยมีตราสินค้าเครื่องแต่งกายทางเลือกที่ออกแบบด้วยแนวคิดความยั่งยืนน้อยมาก เมื่อต้องเลือกเครื่องแต่งกายสำหรับไปงานเลี้ยงสังสรรค์ ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นว่าผู้บริโภคยังมีทางเลือกไม่มากในการเลือกเครื่องแต่งกายในโอกาสงานเลี้ยงสังสรรค์ ทั้งในด้านของวัสดุ ด้านการออกแบบ และด้านโอกาสการใช้สอย ทั้งนี้จากการสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มตัวอย่างเพิ่มเติมพบว่า กลุ่มตัวอย่างให้ความสนใจกับปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมที่มาจากขยะและการจัดการขยะอย่างมาก เนื่องจากเป็นปัญหาที่พบเห็นได้ใกล้ตัว ดังนั้นการออกแบบเครื่องแต่งกายด้วยแนวคิดไร้เศษ หรือการออกแบบโดยยึดเอาแนวทางการลดขยะให้เหลือศูนย์ เพื่อเป็นการหยุดปัญหาตั้งแต่ต้นทาง จึงนับเป็นแนวทางการแก้ปัญหาการออกแบบเพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของผู้บริโภคกลุ่มเป้าหมายได้ดี โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผ้าที่ได้จากการถัก (Knitting) ซึ่งถือเป็นหนึ่งในแนวคิดการออกแบบแฟชั่นแบบไร้เศษ แต่ปัจจุบันมีการนำมาใช้ในการสร้างชิ้นงานแฟชั่น ลักซ์ชัวรี่ปาร์ตี้แวร์ (Luxury Partywear) ไม่มากนัก งานวิจัยนี้จึงเป็นทางเลือกทางการตลาดที่ผู้วิจัยพบว่า หากมีการพัฒนากระบวนการออกแบบลักซ์ชัวรี่ปาร์ตี้แวร์ (Luxury Partywear) จากการถัก (Knitting) จะส่งผลให้ผู้บริโภคมีทางเลือกในการซื้อสินค้าเพิ่มมากขึ้น
