Pioneer Florida: The Beginning Of Tampa, T. Frederick Davis
Pioneer Florida: The Beginning Of Tampa, T. Frederick Davis
Florida Historical Quarterly
General Andrew Jackson was responsible for the failure of the first purposed community settlement of whites in the Tampa region. It came about in this way: General Gregor MacGregor, a Scotchman, who had been associated with Bolivar in the South American revolutions, conceived the idea of also liberating the Floridas from Spanish rule. In 1817, he collected a force recruited largely from adventurers hanging loose upon the society of the United States, made a descent upon the island of Amelia in northeast Florida and captured it in June, 1817. He held on for several months, when, his situation becoming precarious …

The Tallahassee Historical Society's "Apalachee", Florida Historical Society
Florida Historical Quarterly
The Tallahassee Historical Society has long been one of the most active local historical associations in Florida. Program meetings are held during each winter at which carefully prepared papers are read, many of them having been written after extensive research. Several of these papers have been published in this Quarterly, and a much larger number were selected and published at intervals as The Annual of the Tallahassee Historical Society in 1934, 1935, 1937 and 1939. These are mimeographed volumes of sixty to one hundred twenty pages.
The Tribulations Of Denys Rolle, Charles L. Mowat
The Tribulations Of Denys Rolle, Charles L. Mowat
Florida Historical Quarterly
In the brief and generally uneventful history of British East Florida greatest interest has, perhaps, attached to the two unusual experiments in colonization which were carried on in the province at New Smyrna and Rollestown. The history of both has been told by Carita Doggett Corse, 1 and to her work there is little to add. It is, however, possible to give some new light on the early difficulties which Denys Rolle met with in his attempts to establish his colony.

The Neon Bible, From Page To Screen: John Kennedy Toole’S Portrait Of Small-Town Southern Life, Heather Duerre Humann
The Neon Bible, From Page To Screen: John Kennedy Toole’S Portrait Of Small-Town Southern Life, Heather Duerre Humann
Study the South
Louisiana-born writer John Kennedy Toole (1937–1969) represents the South in such a way that stereotypes about the region are brought to bear, he also uses his novels -- his short novel, The Neon Bible (1989), and in his better-known tragicomic novel, A Confederacy of Dunces (1980) -- to question the culture of the South. In this manner, Toole offers a multifaceted portrait of the region while also raising questions about the nature of representation.

Jake Runestad, An American Triptych: A Conductor's Guide, Neviton Barros
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Jake Runestad is a fresh voice within the new wave of successful twenty-first century American choral composers. Among the growing number of very popular works within his expanding opus, Runestad has compiled three of his independently conceived compositions into a cycle he titles, American Triptych. The determination to group these works together in a cycle, Reflections (2016), The Piece of Wild Things (2013), and Come to the Woods (2015), was largely based on a common textual thread since all three authors are naturalist writers – Henry David Thoreau, Wendell Berry, and John Muir.
All three are written for SATB chorus …

Digital Literacy Competence Of Indonesian Lecturers On Analysis Hoax In Social Media, Yanti Dwi Astuti
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Hoax in social media is increasingly flooding all types of social media. The ease with which people consume and produce information on social media provides freedom for citizens to express themselves and their attitudes regardless of whether the information is true or a hoax. ironically, this phenomenon is also affecting academics who are highly educated and work as lecturers. This article attempts to explore the digital literacy competencies of lecturers in Indonesia by taking samples of lecturers in two big cities, namely Medan and Bandung. The research was conducted using a digital ethnographic method that allows the author to be …

In Loving Memory: Beginning The Conversation On Grief And Loss, Sydney Anne Bitz
In Loving Memory: Beginning The Conversation On Grief And Loss, Sydney Anne Bitz
Honors Thesis
My series In Loving Memory focus on societal grief constructs and culture through presenting my experience with my father’s death in 2012. The current culture of grief in society needs to be reformed. Through my own personal vulnerability, I create an atmosphere to begin the uncomfortable conversation that allows for grief to have an existence. I aim not to show a correct way to grieve, just my way of grieving. Grief is universal because death is universal—but my work shows the deeply personal aspect of mourning and loss. I am, perhaps, not asking you to feel emotions as I feel …
