The Way We See Matters: Developing A New Theological Vision For Effective Cross-Generational Evangelism, Michelle Naomi Jeremie
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Today, North American churches have great opportunities and face unique challenges in fulfilling their mandate to make disciples. This DMIN thesis discusses the issue of how to more effectively evangelize the Millennial generation and Generation Z in a postmodern context. The purpose of this thesis is to address the need for church leaders to utilize a specialized evangelism training program to equip Christians to evangelize to non-believers across generational lines. The focus of this project is to implement the Cross-generational Evangelism Training (C-GET) Program at a ministry that has a low representation of Millennials and Generation Z. This Program will …

A Study Of American Rural Music Educators: The Impact On Community Involvement In Music, Stanley Norman Harris Iii
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study intends to discover and evaluate positive and negative relationships that music educators experience while teaching in rural educational settings and to discover if broader community involvement can help mitigate resource reductions. Influences such as the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) have accelerated reductions in music programs. The purpose of the investigation is to recognize the feasibility of rural music educators leveraging increased support through community involvement to benefit their local music programs and students. The study's focus is twofold: first, to discover and examine what causes rural music educators to not participate …

Understanding Discipleship And How To Effectively Spread The Gospel, Christopher Earl Kornegay
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This project will work to help Greater Purpose International formulate a plan that will better serve its congregants and aid them in gaining the confidence to share their faith with others. Although the overall health of the church may have been attributed to a lack of discipleship, it is evident that congregants can be comfortable sharing their faith even if expected results are not obtained. The fundamental purpose of this study is to focus specifically on the congregants of Greater Purpose International and their ability to share their faith with others. Using qualitative research, a collection of interviews, and group …

The perfect church does not exist. All churches have issues, and Church of Faith and Deliverance in Kinston, North Carolina, is no exception. The church has a problem within the music ministry. The purpose of this DMIN action research thesis is to teach and provide adequate training on the roles and responsibilities of the music ministry at Church of Faith and Deliverance. If the roles and responsibilities of individuals in the music ministry are taught at Church of Faith and Deliverance, then unity of worship may result. The church is a living and breathing organism. Abstract Temptation: Vanessa Bell’S Artistic Journey Amidst Temptations Of Her Own, Maggie Perry
Abstract Temptation: Vanessa Bell’S Artistic Journey Amidst Temptations Of Her Own, Maggie Perry
Student Research
My research paper, “Abstract Temptation: Vanessa Bell’s Artistic Journey Amidst Temptations of Her Own,” provides a study into four of her most influential and thought-provoking paintings with links to the theme of temptation and legacies. While analyzing the ethical consequences of temptations, I suggest that temptations are not always bad. They can lead to unethical, and selfish decisions that can harm our legacies; however, if we choose to fight temptation and make the best decisions ethically, the world and our legacies will benefit. The paintings I chose to analyze––Iceland Poppies, Studland Beach, Nude with Poppies, and Interior with a …
An Application Of Lakota Ethics To The Contemporary American Waste Crisis, Erika Marchant
An Application Of Lakota Ethics To The Contemporary American Waste Crisis, Erika Marchant
Student Research
In this paper, I discuss the unethical nature of modern American waste systems and individual practices, focusing on the benefits of adopting elements of indigenous land care ethics. Specifically, I discuss the opportunities for sustainable improvement found in the Lakota perspective of humans’ relationship with the land, such as the frugality epitomized in their hunting, harvesting, and material culture. Lakotan environmental consciousness is ultimately owing to the centrality of their spiritual convictions and traditions, which are, of course, not replicable in the non-indigenous Western context; although we will certainly never be able to understand nor internalize the heart of Lakota …

The Legal Question Of Being An "Anglo-Indian": Race, Identity, And Law In Colonial India, Vishwajeet Deshmukh
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
From colonial times to modern-day independent India, mixed-race groups have struggled to find their existence in a legal context. The East India Company to the British Empire witnessed a change in attitude towards the mixed-race group also known as Eurasians and Anglo-Indians. Through the course of this article, the author reflects how the legal definition of Anglo-Indians was changed and interpreted according to the British when the group posed a threat to the security of the Empire. This changing attitude was reflected through a series of regulations and legislation passed by the British Empire which has classified the group as …

Inside The Eugenics Quarterly: American Eugenicists And The Birth Control Movement In 1929, Meg Spaulding
Inside The Eugenics Quarterly: American Eugenicists And The Birth Control Movement In 1929, Meg Spaulding
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
This essay uses issues of the Eugenics Quarterly from 1929 to examine the ways in which the eugenics and the birth control movements overlapped and, ultimately, used each other for their own gain. The articles about birth control in the Eugenics Quarterly show that eugenicists were grappling with whether or not birth control would help or hinder their cause. Overall, they saw birth control as a helpful factor for their eugenics principles. Similarly, the birth control movement used the authority and reputability of eugenic scientists to bolster their own mission.

From Poet To Activist: Sarojini Naidu And Her Battles Against Colonial Oppression And Misogyny In 20th-Century India, Madisyn Staggs
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
Sarojini Naidu was a prominent poet and activist during the early twentieth century, yet few have ever heard her name. A child prodigy turned romantic poet, she shocked the world with her words and used her growing fame to advocate for Indian independence alongside famous nationalist Mahatma Gandhi. Her fluidity as a poet helped her captivate international audiences, and her charisma moved the masses to support her causes. Fighting for nationalism, she never forgot about her sisters, and Indian women still celebrate Naidu today for her impact as a feminist. Naidu’s poetic mastery, her charisma as an orator, and her …
A Privileged Equality: The Divisive Ideals Of Christine De Pizan And White Feminists, Emilee Gu
A Privileged Equality: The Divisive Ideals Of Christine De Pizan And White Feminists, Emilee Gu
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
Christine de Pizan was one of the most prolific woman writers of the Middle Ages and her work serves as an early example of feminism. This paper aims at analyzing Christine’s feminism through the Epistre Au Dieu D’Amours, Christine’s letter to Jean de Montreuil, and her letter to Gontier Col. By comparing Christine’s ideas with some representative examples of “white feminism” from the “Second Wave,” I argue that despite Christine’s contributions in sparking feminist ideas, she created a proto-feminist work that excludes those who do not fit into her ideal of “good women.” Christine’s feminism, which operates at the expense …

Preventing Needle Stick Injuries: A Quality Improvement Project, Adrianna Kerns, Emilea Pitts, Grace Richman, Katie Rawlings, Megan Riley, Mary Suzanne White
2021 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations
"Needlestick injuries (NSI) affect approximately 1,000 people per day across U.S. hospitals. Needlestick injuries cost an estimated $3,042 per victim annually, according to the report. The costs go toward laboratory fees for testing exposed employees, associated labor and counseling and post-exposure follow-ups." (Beckner's Clinical Leadership & Infection Control, 2020). It was noted at an urban teaching hospital that needlestick injuries are an issue. Researchers believe this number is an underestimate of the actual amount of needle stick injuries. The purpose is to increase the education of staff nurses on the topic of needle stick injuries. We thoroughly reviewed 56 studies …

Irish Rock Music Amid A Time Of Troubles: Thin Lizzy And U2 As A Bridge During A Time Of Division, Jacey L. Thomas
Honors College Theses
The Troubles were a period of crisis and violence in Ireland in the latter half of the twentieth century. Loyalists, Unionists, Republicans, and Nationalists brutally fought against each other over the issue of whether or not Northern Ireland should remain in the United Kingdom or join the Republic of Ireland to form one united country. The conflict also resulted in ethnic and religious tensions for many Protestants and Catholics who were compelled to choose sides over this issue, owing to their ties to the deep-rooted history of animosity between the two Christian populations. As a result, the Troubles, which lasted …
Traits Of Religious Leadership, Alex J. Raymond
Traits Of Religious Leadership, Alex J. Raymond
Honors College Theses
Religious leaders act in crucial roles throughout their communities, yet few studies have addressed these leaders. Despite numerous experiments having been conducted with religion and leadership, little has focused on specifically religious leadership. This study sought to contribute to the limited body of knowledge regarding the traits of religious leadership. We had developed eight preacher profiles that presented varying qualities of moral integrity, communal involvement, and the capability to instill personal meaning in individual religious members. After reading one of these profiles in an online survey, the 178 participants were asked to answer a series of questions to rate the …
The Importance Of Hypotheses In Church-Based Research, David R. Dunaetz Editor
The Importance Of Hypotheses In Church-Based Research, David R. Dunaetz Editor
Great Commission Research Journal
The role of hypotheses is central both in church-related research and in Christian ministry. Hypotheses guide the collection of data to determine what is true in research and provide tentative guidelines for action in ministry, even when they are not yet confirmed. Well-constructed hypotheses are based on previous research and provide clear potential solutions to research problems. They succinctly posit a testable relationship between two or more variables. Such hypotheses can be tested through appropriately designed research. Statistical techniques can indicate to what degree the evidence collected supports the hypotheses. In church-based research, hypotheses to be examined can come from …
How Research On Young Adults Informs Evangelism, Gary Comer
How Research On Young Adults Informs Evangelism, Gary Comer
Great Commission Research Journal
In a time when the church is missing members of the younger generations, it is important to look to generational research and listen to compelling voices regarding currents in the culture, with the aim of informing evangelism among these generations. This treatise provides an analysis of two missiological-relevant aspects of these generations: profile and receptivity. Based on this analysis, the author proposes correctives to increase the effectiveness of evangelistic efforts.

Anti-Anarchist Legislation And The Road To The 1919 Red Hysteria, Evan Crumb
Anti-Anarchist Legislation And The Road To The 1919 Red Hysteria, Evan Crumb
College Honors Program
In my thesis, I connect anti-anarchist legislation from the early 1900s with the excesses of the 1919 Red Scare. I tie the actions of anarchist leaders Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman to legislative responses, which were then weaponized after the hysteria of the Russian Revolution culminating in the deportations of 249 Russian “radicals” on the Soviet Ark. I find that the Supreme Court’s legal interpretation of the 1903 Immigration Act’s anti-anarchist provision in Turner v. Williams (1904), and the 1902 Criminal Anarchy Act in Gitlow v. New York (1925) were rational—understandable—within their legal and social context.
My legal history bridges …

Digital Humanities And Virtual Reality: A Review Of Theories And Best Practices For Art History, James Hutson, Trent Olsen
Faculty Scholarship
The technology of virtual reality (VR) has had proven educational benefits over the last three decades. And yet, most research conducted on these benefits has been confined to science programs, especially in Computer Science. The application of VR technology for the Digital Humanities is only now beginning to receive attention, but more study needs to be conducted on its uses within various humanistic disciplines. In order to expand on the research at a pivotal time in education when modalities expand beyond the dominant face-to-face model to incorporate more hybrid, distance education, and online learning, this study reviews the literature and …

The Challenge Of E. Pluribus Unum: Waterfront Workers During The Civil War In Buffalo, New York, Anthony E. Gil
The Challenge Of E. Pluribus Unum: Waterfront Workers During The Civil War In Buffalo, New York, Anthony E. Gil
History Theses
This work is pioneering in that it opens discussion and historical inquiry into events of civil unrest in the U.S., both during the Civil War and in 1860s Buffalo, New York. It is the position of this study that events of early civil unrest are boiling points in the development of our great melting pot. Indeed, the more historians explore and understand these moments in American history, the easier it is to see profound epochs relative to America's growing pains. And, although there are many epochs that tell the story of those growing pains, "The Challenge of E. Pluribus Unum: …

Con la pluma entre dos mundos
It has been said that writing is knowledge. This second season of the student magazine Con la pluma entre dos mundos [With the Pen Between Two Worlds] is a testament to that.
This project was born in 2005, when I arrived at Wright State. It was the result of my wanting to share the amazement and admiration I felt on reading the written works of my students in very different subjects: from Composition I, II and III to seminars on special topics in Spanish, which included culture and literature. From the elementary language to Conversation courses, in which participants had …
