A method for performing a signal integrity analysis on an integrated circuit (IC) that includes a plurality of scatterers by dividing the scatterers into subgroups using a nested Huygens' equivalence principal algorithm and solving a set of equations realized thereby with a reduced coupling matrix. The method includes decomposing the IC design into a plurality of small non-overlapping circuit sub-domains, wherein each of the sub-domains is formed as a small, enclosed region. This thesis works through the design of a radar-based system for imaging snowpacks remotely and over large areas to assist in avalanche prediction. The key to such a system is the ability to image volumes of snow at shallow, spatially-varying angles of incidence. To achieve this prerequisite, the design calls for a ground-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) capable of generating three-dimensional, ultra-high-resolution images of a snowpack. To arrive at design parameters for this SAR, the thesis works through relevant principles in avalanche mechanics, alpine-snowpack geophysics, and electromagnetic scattering theory. The problem of finding a set of edges F from a directed graph G = (V,E) such that the graph G0 = (V,E − F) contains no cycles is known as the feedback edge set (FES) problem or the feedback arc set problem. A related problem is the minimum feedback edge set problem, in which the feedback edge set F must be minimal. The feedback edge set problem has application in applying a common reliability technique called triple modular redundancy to FPGA circuit designs where configuration memory scrubbing is employed [1].

Various novel approaches to the integration of antenna and photovoltaic technologies are proposed. These include the use of polycrystalline solar cells as groundplane for microstrip patch antennas as well as for reflectors of half-wave dipole antennas. Transparent materials were also evaluated as antenna radiating elements, allowing greater solar efficiency. A novel technique illustrating how emitter-wrap-through rear contact solar cells can be used as a folded-dipole antenna, which is located in the focal line of a parabolic solar concentrator, to provide high solar efficiency as well as high antenna gain, is presented.

A delta-sigma modulation analog-to-digital converter (ADC) has many benefits over the use of a pipeline ADC in a CMOS image sensor. This includes lower power, noise reduction, ease of maximizing the input range, and simpler signal routing for large arrays. Multiple delta-sigma modulation ADC is required in a CMOS image sensor, one for each pixel column. Any voltage threshold mismatch between ADCs will introduce gain and offset error in its transfer function, which will lead to fix pattern noise. The bandwidth and power consumption of dynamic random access memory (DRAM), used as the main memory of a computer system, impacts computer execution rates. DRAM manufacturers focus on density increases, due to the innate price per bit decline of main memory, while processor manufacturers continually focus on boosting performance. This leads to a performance gap between the two technologies. Proximity communication promises to increase the off/on chip bandwidth of DRAM products while reducing the power consumption of the main memory system. This paper performs a global robust stability analysis of a particular class of hybrid bidirectional associative memory time-varying delayed neural network with norm-bounded timevarying parameter uncertainties. The activation functions are assumed to be globally Lipschitz continuous. Globally delay-dependent robust stability criteria are derived in the form of linear matrix inequalities by introducing relaxation matrices which, when chosen properly, produce a less conservative result. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the significant improvement obtained in the conservativeness of the delay bound.

In this paper, two novel angle tracking algorithms are proposed for tracking multiple targets using an array of sensors with known locations. First, we present an extended Kalman particle filter (EKPF) which is capable of determining the direction-of-arrival (DOA) angles using a single snapshot of data during the interval between each time step. The proposed EKPF algorithm combines particle filtering with the extended Kalman filter (EKF) in order to prevent sample impoverishment during its resampling process. Vapor chamber is a cooling device with phase change phenomena. It not only provides high heat transfer coefficient but also removes hot spot. During working of vapor chamber, the buckle force and vapor pressure could lead to deformation. It is a popular way that pillars are set up to reduce deformation. This paper presents a three-dimensional finite element analysis for the vapor chamber by ANSYS software program. As the number of transistors in microprocessors increases per Moore's Law their power requirement increases accordingly. This poses design challenges for their power supply module especially when microprocessors operate at sub voltage range. This paper presents a new multiphase topology that addresses these challenges. Laboratory tests on a hardware prototype of the topology shows improved performance compared to a commercially available power supply module.

In this paper we investigate the design and operating principle of a pattern reconfigurable multi-mode slot antenna with a hybrid feed. The slot antenna is excited by an orthogonal arrangement of a co-planar waveguide (CPW) fed circular disc and a microstrip fed square patch. The design objective is to be able to change the direction of the main lobe by feeding the two orthogonal elements with different phases.

A novel miniaturized printed monopole structure is proposed. The antenna comprises a printed monopole strip which is loaded by a spiral located on the rearside connected by a via. Spatial Domain Multiplexing (SDM) is a novel technique in optical fiber communications. Single mode fibers are used to launch Gaussian beams of the same wavelength into a multimode step index fiber at specific angles. Based on the launch angle, the channel follows a helical path. The helical trajectory is explained with the help of vortex theory. The electromagnetic wave based vortex formation and propagation is mathematically modeled for multiple channels and the results are compared against experimental and simulated data. The modeled output intensity is analyzed to show a relationship between launch angle and the electric field intensity.

We described a way to use a block-matching 3-D denoising algorithm to reduce noise in x-ray imagery. We first filtered an image multiple times using different estimates of the noise variance. From a simple estimate of the denoised image, we then estimated the noise variance at each pixel of the image. Using this approach, we obtained improved results when compared to using a single value of estimate for the noise variance. Even a small number of quantization levels of the estimates of the noise showed improved results.

Spatial reuse of optical frequencies in optical fibers is possible through a novel Spatial Domain Multiplexing (SDM) technique that enables simultaneous propagation of two or more spatially multiplexed channels of exactly the same wavelength by confining them to unique spatial locations inside the fiber. Spatial filtering techniques are employed at the output end to separate the individual optical channels. The SDM channels follow helical path inside the carrier fiber and do not interfere with each other. This dissertation approaches high resolution scatterometry from a new perspective. Three related general topics are addressed: high resolution σ^0 imaging, wind estimation from high resolution σ^0 images over the ocean, and high resolution wind estimation directly from the scatterometer measurements. Theories of each topic are developed, and previous approaches are generalized and formalized. Improved processing algorithms for these theories are developed, implemented for particular scatterometers, and analyzed. Specific results and contributions are noted below. The σ^0 imaging problem is approached as the inversion of a noisy aperture-filtered sampling operation-extending the current theory to deal explicitly with noise. A maximum aposteriori …
