Criteria For Sustainable Product Design With 3d Printing In The Developing World, Benjamin L. Savonen 2015 Michigan Technological University

Criteria For Sustainable Product Design With 3d Printing In The Developing World, Benjamin L. Savonen

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports - Open

The demand for consumer goods in the developing world continues to rise as populations and economies grow. As designers, manufacturers, and consumers look for ways to address this growing demand, many are considering the possibilities of 3D printing. Due to 3D printing’s flexibility and relative mobility, it is speculated that 3D printing could help to meet the growing demands of the developing world. While the merits and challenges of distributed manufacturing with 3D printing have been presented, little work has been done to determine the types of products that would be appropriate for such manufacturing.

Interior, Concept And Clay: A Study Of Self And Space, Lily Alan 2015 Scripps College

Interior, Concept And Clay: A Study Of Self And Space, Lily Alan

Scripps Senior Theses

This paper considers theories of perception, interaction, and being as a historical and philosophical foundation for themes of space and the self within art; namely, my senior installation, Interior, Concept & Clay. Beginning with a biological discussion of the eye’s perception, the paper moves on to Kant’s theories of Differentiation of Direction in Space. From there, I discuss Gaston Bachelard’s text The Poetics of Space as an investigation of personal awareness within domestic interiors. Finally, I study the vast and varied philosophical notions of selfhood and no-selfhood with the help of John Canfield’s The Looking-Glass Self: An Examination of …

Depintrix, Samantha Mae Allen 2015 Minnesota State University - Mankato

Depintrix, Samantha Mae Allen

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

My work speaks to the intimacy of individual pleasure. I separate the societal barriers of what private and public pleasure should be. The techniques used convey the same kind of physical consistency of sex. It is wet and sensuous, it is physical. By bringing pornography that is usually consumed in the privacy of one's own home to the public eye, one has to become accustomed to viewing these works with the added pressure of being in a public space. The same ideas follow when using the sexualized photographs of models which are viewed daily and seem to have no response …

Chinese Chess Site, Andrew M. Krigline 2015 The University of Akron

Chinese Chess Site, Andrew M. Krigline

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

This project was an effort to demonstrate my technical abilities gained during my time at the University of Akron to design and develop a website dedicated to educating English speakers about Chinese Chess. The design was mocked up and prototyped with sketches and Photoshop. I used a multitude of web techniques when developing the website, including HTML5, CSS3, SASS, jQuery, and Bootstrap. My overall approach was to design a site that felt Asian by way of aesthetics and typography, but also to break the information down into digestible chunks.

More Is The Same, Tyler Reeves Nansen

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers

Nansen, Tyler, M.F.A. Spring 2015

More Is The Same

Chairperson: Associate Professor Trey Hill

More is the Same is the result of my examination of the perception of space in relation to architecture and landscape. By embracing modern concepts of the grid, formalism and design, this compilation of personal experiences and memories, manifests as post-minimal sculptures. However, when considering the hierarchy of importance in my work this involves pure visual perception over any specific narrative. The final product is an exhibition which elicits a perceptual experience for its viewer.

My work is about space and the creation of visual interactions, …

This Is Not A Trend, Michael T. Workman 2015 University of Montana - Missoula

This Is Not A Trend, Michael T. Workman

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts

ABSTRACT

Workman, Michael, B.F.A., May 2015 Art

THIS IS NOT A TREND

Faculty Mentor: Elizabeth Dove

This is not a trend is a multi-media art installation that examines the valuation system of contemporary art by creating an absurd situation that mimics a real commercial experience. The manner in which value is placed on art is artificial. Both the monetary and intellectual value of art is decided mostly on the reputation of the artist, their fame, and how well their work is marketed to the public. These characteristics are marketed to art consumers in order to sell them an authentic “art” …

Trying To Exit Here, Leigh C. Suggs 2015 Virginia Commonwealth University

Trying To Exit Here, Leigh C. Suggs

Theses and Dissertations

There is an in-between space during the act of seeing. The in-between space lies on the spectrum of the reality in front of us and what our brain tells us. It is within this suspended moment an individual can experience an unaltered and unaffected vision. While this moment is fleeting, it defines the highest peak of personal experience. It is my belief no two people will ever experience the same vision during this suspended time. And after it passes, the sigh/vision can never be the same. We are constantly bearing witness to the inexpressive, and this fleeting moment is something …
