Perceived Family Support And Antiretroviral Adherence In Hiv-Positive Individuals: Results From A Community-Based Positive Living With Hiv Study, Krishna Poudel, David Buchanan, Rachel Amiya, Kalpana Poudel-Tandukar

Krishna C. Poudel

The purpose of this study was to examine the association between perceived family support, either positive or negative, and adherence to antiretroviral medication regimens among HIV-positive individuals in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. We measured past 3-month antiretroviral adherence among 233 HIV-positive individuals, in relation to perceived family support, both positive (in terms of emotional and instrumental support) and negative (in the form of negative interactions), using the 10-item Nepali Family Support and Difficulty Scale. Medium and high levels of perceived emotional support from family were associated with reduced risk of antiretroviral nonadherence, compared with low levels of perceived emotional support …

Pressure Injury Risk Assessment And Prevention Strategies In Operating Room Patients – Findings From A Study Tour Of Novel Practices In American Hospitals, Lauren Goudas, Steven Bruni 2019 Royal Adelaide Hospital

Pressure Injury Risk Assessment And Prevention Strategies In Operating Room Patients – Findings From A Study Tour Of Novel Practices In American Hospitals, Lauren Goudas, Steven Bruni

Journal of Perioperative Nursing

Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) lead to complications such as increased pain, increased bed days, re-admissions, multiple surgical interventions, possible disfigurement, decreased quality of life, increased healthcare cost and mortality. There are several factors specific to the operating room suite which increase the risk of pressure injury development. Highlighting the need for OR specific pressure injury risk assessment tools. Research indicates that pressure injuries occurring in the OR can appear up to 48-72 hours post-surgery, thus the incidence of pressure injury originating in the OR is likely to be higher than is currently reported. Facilities in the USA are now attributing …

Use Of A Checklist To Facilitate The Recognition Of A Transfusion Associated Adverse Event, susan scott 2019 University of Massachusetts Amherst

Use Of A Checklist To Facilitate The Recognition Of A Transfusion Associated Adverse Event, Susan Scott

Doctoral Dissertations

Transfusions are the most common procedure that hospitalized patients undergo. One of the risks associated with a transfusion is a transfusion related adverse event (TAAE). Transfusion associated adverse events can occur in any patient receiving a transfusion. Some patients are at risk of certain TAAEs (e.g., heart failure patients at risk of transfusion associated circulatory overload) while other events (e.g., allergic reactions) cannot always be anticipated. The severity of a TAAE can range from mildly uncomfortable to life threatening. Nurses need to be able to identify the signs and symptoms of a possible TAAE and intervene immediately by stopping the …

College of Nursing Posters

Purpose

  • This EBP project seeks to examine the literature and nurses’ perceptions related to rotating shifts, especially the impact of quick returns on nurses and possible solutions.
  • Nurses struggle to manage rotating shifts with quick turnaround between shifts. Quick returns defined as returning to work a different shift within 24 hrs

PICO question: What effect does rotating shifts with (quick returns) have on clinical nurses?
