I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT Failure tests on two specimens each of beam type A, B, C, D, E, F, G, have been carried out. The lengthy final evaluation of the results will be given in a later report. However, the results of the tests reported herein allow the drawing of rather definite conclusions.

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT In the preceding 14th Progress Report a method was proposed to determine the forces acting in the welds in the web of I-beams composed of two channels. This method essentially has been based on the magnitude "e", the distance of the flexural center from the axis of the web. A formula for "e" was given which applies to symmetrical channels of uniform thickness. In the present report this expression for "e" will be simplified and a more general expression will be derived for "e" for symmetrical channels with web thickness differing from flange thickness. In particular since the time of the 10th Progress Report the following tests have been carried out: Failure tests on eleven beams, viz. D-18-18-88a and b; E-18-14-88a and b; E-18-16-83a and b; D-18-14-88a and b; D-18-16-88a and b; E-18-12-816a.
