This study investigated the relative merits of the paradoxical directives (PD) counseling techniques to the more didactic cognitive restructuring (CR) intervention. It was hypothesized that subjects in the PD groups would show an improvement in self-esteem, a reduction in depression and anxiety, and a change reflective of a more internal locus-of-control orientation to a degree significantly greater than the CR and the control groups.;The sample consisted of sixty eighth grade volunteers, twenty from each of three middle schools in a local area school district. The purpose of this study was to measure discrepancies between perceived "importance", "attainment" and "effectiveness" of school counselor role and function behaviors as viewed by principals, counselors, and teachers. It was hypothesized that counselors, teachers, and principals will differ significantly in their perceptions of what is important, attained and effective in counselor role and function.;Research Procedure. The subjects (N = 687) were principals, counselors and teachers randomly selected from Virginia public secondary schools. It was the purpose of this study to determine what effect intrinsic motivation in software programs using graphics and non-graphics has on the achievement, attitudes, attendance and depth-of-involvement of 65 underachieving students. The purpose of this study was to examine the specific relationship which exists between selected sociodemographic characteristics and the religiosity of a group of incoming community college students and their sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors.;A sample of 204 community college students completed a survey aimed at assessing their sexual attitudes, sexual behaviors, and religiosity. The instrument was based on a number of previously printed surveys and its reliability was tested with a sample of 23 community college students.;The reliability study demonstrated conclusive evidence that this instrument is highly reliable. This study investigated the claim that some of the academically best evangelical colleges are in the process of secularizing. An instrument was developed which differentiated between evangelical and more liberal positions on religious, social, and political issues. Faculty attitudes were measured as representative of a particular college's position.;In Phase I, the DISCRIMINANT Program of the SPSS produced a predictor equation based on those questionnaire items which best discriminated between a stratified, random sample of faculty at known evangelical colleges and a similar sample at known secularized, church-related institutions. The purpose of this study was to determine whether 120 fifth-grade students composed significantly better writing using word processors than using pencil and paper. The subjects included 65 males and 55 females. Following an introductory lesson in keyboarding and instruction on the Bank Street Writer word processing program, randomly selected control and treatment groups participated in sixteen 45-minute sessions of prewriting, writing, and revising expository paragraphs and essays. Both groups used a process approach to writing. Trained scorers evaluated the compositions. Results were tabulated using MANOVA to test for significant differences between groups. The purpose of this study was to analyze the existing literature to determine how the line-staff structure may influence academic managers and their institutions. The study focused on identifying behavior-linked line-staff distinguishing variables on which academic line and staff managers may differ. The relationship between the job preview and the job related behaviors of absenteeism, turnover, and job satisfaction was investigated. The objective of the study was to attempt to determine if a job preview booklet that contained information about teaching would have a statistically significant effect on the three job-related behaviors of absenteeism, turnover, and job satisfaction. Data were gathered by examining absenteeism and turnover information from 103 newly hired teachers in the seven school divisions participating in the study. This study investigated the effects of cooperative game play and structured interview on the anxiety levels and attitudes of prospective teachers toward persons with visual impairments.
