Studying Music, Learning Law: A Musical Perspective On Clinical Legal Education, Alfred C. Aman
Studying Music, Learning Law: A Musical Perspective On Clinical Legal Education, Alfred C. Aman
Articles by Maurer Faculty
I want to talk about an important issue in legal education today: the role of clinical education in the law school curriculum. I hope to shed some light on that issue by looking at another professional school model-not the medical school model, which is the usual approach, but the music school model. I want to reflect on my experiences as a student at the Eastman School of Music and my recent conversations with Robert Freeman, the director of the Eastman School, and members of the Eastman faculty. In so doing, I want to suggest some parallels between musical and legal …

The Superintendent's Point Of View Concerning Music In The High Schools Of Washington State, Morris Ray Pedersen
The Superintendent's Point Of View Concerning Music In The High Schools Of Washington State, Morris Ray Pedersen
All Master's Theses
A common philosophy of administrators and music educators should be prerequisite for a successful music program. This philosophy should permit enough flexibility to allow for individual differences and yet be rigid enough to encompass general education needs and goals. It can only be shared through communication. The place of music within the curriculum will be understood through this communication between the music educator and the chief administrator. It shall be the purpose of this study to encourage the shared philosophy and communication relationship between school music educators and their administrators.
Basic Problems In Playing The Cornet, Loyal J. West
Basic Problems In Playing The Cornet, Loyal J. West
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
After having spent a number of years in the teaching profession, the writer has become aware of the need for a study dealing with the specific and technical problems in playing the cornet.
The problems of performance on the cornet may readily be divided into three groups: (1) those having to do with the instrument, (2) those having to do with the player, and (3) those having to do with the interpretation of music. The problems of playing the cornet will be dealt with in this paper only as they apply directly to the problems of learning the instrument itself. …

A Descriptive Summary Of Various Band Booster Groups In Southeastern Idaho And A Study Of Their Benefits To The Schools, Melborne Roberts
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Within the last 30 years the music departments in the schools of the Southeastern Idaho areas have grown tremendously. With the mushrooming of the band programs within these music departments many problems appear. They arise primarily from inadequate funds.
In order for the band systems in this area to function properly, the problem of finances must be met by some means other than entirely through the funds allocated by local school boards.
Local boards of education frequently do not have sufficient funds to meet such needs as transportation for band tours and trips to the district and state festivals. Large …

This present study grew of of the writer's own conviction of the need for a thorough comprehension of Music Theory for a well rounded musicianship in any field of musical endeavor. Experimental Studies In Junior High School Monotonism, Lina Baldauf Knight
Experimental Studies In Junior High School Monotonism, Lina Baldauf Knight
Graduate Thesis Collection
The individual who lacks the use of his voice as a musical instrument lacks the natural, fundamental medium of musical expression. Not only does he lack the means for the closest and most direct relationship with music, but also there is a serious danger that, as a result, his whole range of musical appreciation will be impaired and finally obliterated. This is likely to occur because he does not have at his command and under his control this power which he so definitely needs. Children who are thus handicapped are often designated by the use of the word monotone.

Master's Theses
This study is a scientific investigation to determine the educational values of band instruction as a part of the curriculum as well as the accepted methods of procedure, organization and administration of the high school band in Western Kansas. It is obvious that in such an extensive survey as this, it is necessary that the factors involved be limited to certain particular phases of the problem. For this reason and since the greatest outward appearance of advance in the band movement has been made in the past decade in Western Kansas the present survey will present the situation as found …
