A Commission Or A Commandment? Responding To (Some) Women’S March: The Intersection Of Feminism, Religious Freedom, And The Pro-Life Movement, Leah Farish Esq.
College of Arts and Cultural Studies Faculty Research and Scholarship
The women’s marches on January 21 held in Washington, D.C., and many other places were characterized by loud and scalding rhetoric, often seething with vitriol such as Madonna’s thoughts about bombing the White House and signs about private parts biting other people. But perhaps more troubling was the organizers’ refusal to include pro-life voices in the chorus. True, under Hurley v. Irish-American Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Group of Boston, Inc., the organizers are legally entitled to shape their message by limiting participants. Yet, there are three ethical problems with that exclusion. These problems exist because the female marchers are …

Beirne Considered Best Shipping Point, Wendy Bradley Richter
Beirne Considered Best Shipping Point, Wendy Bradley Richter
Articles
The town of Beirne in southern Clark County was founded in 1880 by James Lewis Beirne from Grafton, Illinois. Beirne established a sawmill as well as a Methodist church, at which he served as the first minister. Postal service began in the community in that year as well, with the town's founder as postmaster. By the end of that year, a railroad depot had been completed, and Beirne's sawmill and grist mill became fully operational. People of the surrounding area considered Beirne to be among the best shipping points for the new railroad passing through the state. The small village …

Science In The Sun: How Science Is Performed As A Spatial Practice, Natalie Kass
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study analyzes how spatial organization impacts science communication at the St. Petersburg Science Festival in Florida. Through map analysis, qualitative interviews, and a close reading of evaluation reports, the author determines that sponsorship, logistics, exhibitor ambience, and map usability and design are the factors most affecting the spatial performance of science. To mitigate their effects, technical communicators can identify these factors and provide the necessary revisions when considering how science is communicated to the public.

The Byline Of Europe: An Examination Of Foreign Correspondents' Reporting From 1930 To 1941, Kerry J. Garvey
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis focuses on two of the largest foreign correspondents’ networks the one of the Chicago Tribune and New York Times- in prewar Europe and especially in Germany, thus providing a wider perspective on the foreign correspondents’ role in news reporting and, more importantly, how their reporting appeared in the published newspaper. It provides a new, broader perspective on how foreign news reporting portrayed European events to the American public. It describes the correspondents’ role in publishing articles over three time periods- 1930 to 1933, 1933-1939, and 1939 to 1941. Reporting and consequently the published paper depended on the correspondents’ …

Rewriting Histories Exhibition, Hannah Fitch
Rewriting Histories Exhibition, Hannah Fitch
Post & Beyond
Rewriting Histories, an international exhibition curated by Benj Gerdes and Lasse Lau, was exhibited at the Fotografisk Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark November through December 2015. Rewriting Histories draws on the singular space of the museum, itself an often complicated agent of historization, to highlight works addressing history, subjectivity, and political agency by artists working at the intersection of documentary and art. In many of the film, video and photo works, archival material is included, and thus the exhibition draws on a documentary tradition and frame of significance. By its reference to the documentary aspect, with all that it includes of …
