Fashion has been a catalyst for social change throughout human history. Fashion in 1920s America in particular reflects society's rapidly evolving attitudes towards gender and race. Beginning with how corsetry heavily restricted women for nearly four hundred years up until the twentieth century, this thesis explores how clothing has acted as a tool for societal progression following World War I and Women's Suffrage and during the Jazz Age and The Harlem Renaissance. Specifically, this thesis examines how the influence of jazz music and dance that originated from Black American communities led to the creation of the flapper evening dress. The …

Conversations surrounding curricular reform are abound in music education today. Much of the literature on this topic explores how professors can adapt their teaching practices to the presumed needs of students in the classroom, but student voices are infrequently centered in these discussions.

This thesis examines the study of music in the collegiate setting from the student perspective. Using a survey which I designed and interviews that I conducted, I examine the disconnect between student values and those of the institutions they attend. I then put these student perspectives in conversation with existing literature.

Violin playing promotes a connection between mind and body that allows the performer to internalize, or embody, tactile features of the instrument, such as the distance between strings, the feeling of the fingertips on the fingerboard, the interval size between notes, and many other aspects. This thesis designs a pedagogy that employs the violin’s physical attributes to provide the beginning through advanced player with a deeper understanding of music theory. The thesis suggests pairing of physical learning and musical theory at each stage of a violinist’s musical education. Chapter 1 surveys embodied cognition and cognitive artifacts. Workers across the United States are reckoning with unfair labor conditions by unionizing and speaking out. Systemic undervaluing of many workers has created a climate of fear, hidden agendas, and pervasive labor misconduct. The pageantry/marching arts are no exception. As a cultural insider, I conducted interviews, had many informal conversations, and ran a large survey that uncovered how the marching arts exploit instructors extensively despite their experience, education, and efforts. A systematic proclivity toward late payments, abused contracts, egregiously low compensation, and free labor begs the question: how can programs continually mistreat instructors this way? I explore this question through …

บทประพันธ์เพลง “สารธารแห่งชีวิต” สำหรับวงออร์เคสตรา เป็นบทประพันธ์ประเภทดนตรีพรรณนา ที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากวิถีชีวิตของผู้คนริมฝั่งแม่น้ำที่มีวัฒนธรรมอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของตนเอง โดยเฉพาะวัฒนธรรมทางด้านดนตรีที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ที่อาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่นั้น โดยใช้แม่น้ำสำคัญของทั้งสี่ภูมิภาคในการเชื่อมโยงวัฒนธรรมประเพณีและอัตลักษณ์ที่สำคัญของแต่ละภาคเข้าด้วยกัน แบ่งออกเป็น 4 กระบวน รวมเวลาในการบรรเลงทั้งสิ้น 24 นาที โดยแต่ละท่อนจะมีชื่อเรียกตามชื่อแม่น้ำของแต่ละภาค ได้แก่ ตาปี มูล แม่ปิง และเจ้าพระยา นำมาเป็นจุดเชื่อมโยงในการนำเสนอดนตรีพื้นบ้านลุ่มแม่น้ำ ที่มีกลิ่นอายของวิถีชีวิตของผู้คน ผ่านรูปแบบการประพันธ์ดนตรีสำหรับวงออร์เคสตราขนาดใหญ่แบบตะวันตกผสมกับเครื่องดนตรีพื้นบ้านจากแต่ละภาค ที่มีการใช้เทคนิคการประพันธ์ดนตรีร่วมสมัยเข้ามาผสมผสานกับทำนองของเพลงไทย เช่น การปรับทำนอง(Thematic Transformation) การใช้ระบบโมด(Mode system) การแปรทำนอง(Variation) และเทคนิคอื่น ๆ เพื่อสร้างบรรยากาศและทำให้บทเพลงมีสีสันที่หลากหลายขึ้น แต่ยังคงไว้ซึ่งลักษณะสำคัญของดนตรีพื้นบ้านอย่างสมบูรณ์

This research is about how a group of seven kindergarten classes used a short and straightforward song to recognize the following six common kindergarten sight words: on, off, up, us, no, & go. As a current music educator and former middle grades English teacher, I wanted to create an opportunity to establish cross-curricular connections in my music classroom. For this specific experiment, seven different classes, including General Education, Self-Contained Special Education, and English Language Learning classes, were selected. There are many factors that may contribute to student feelings of MPA including perfectionism. Music educators are in a unique position and have a responsibility to assist students with MPA. While some strategies have been used to help individuals cope with feelings of MPA, music educators do not have researched strategies available to them which are easily implemented in general music classrooms. Rap on Trial, the treatment of rap music as evidence in the American criminal legal process, is well-documented and increasingly scrutinised. Research has shown that – with little restraint – police, prosecutors, probation officers and judges use rap lyrics to investigate, prosecute and punish individuals. Less noticed is that a similar phenomenon is occurring in the American K–12 educational system, which disciplines school-age youth who participate in rap culture and sometimes refers them to the juvenile or criminal legal systems for additional punishment. การแสดงขับร้องเดี่ยวระดับมหาบัณฑิตโดย โฉมวิลัย ยูฮันเงาะ : ผู้วิจัยได้คัดเลือกบทเพลงขับร้องจากอุปรากร ละครเพลง และบทเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์ รวมทั้งสิ้น 14 เพลง โดยคำนึงถึงความน่าสนใจ ความหลากหลายของลีลา อารมณ์ ความโด่งดัง และความท้าทายของบทเพลง รวมไปถึงความหลากหลายของเนื้อหา ความแตกต่างทางด้านภาษา สีสันของบทเพลง และวิธีการสื่ออารมณ์ ผู้วิจัยได้ค้นคว้าศึกษาลงลึกทางด้านประวัติศาสตร์ความเป็นมา เนื้อเรื่อง ฉาก รวมถึงตัวละครของแต่ละบทเพลง เพื่อนำมาเปรียบเที่ยบกับชีวิตจริงของผู้วิจัยและนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจในการตีความบทเพลง รวมถึงการแสดงออกทางอารมณ์อย่างลึกซึ้ง ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้การแสดงการขับร้องในครั้งนี้สมบูรณ์แบบตามมาตรฐานระดับมหาบัณฑิต ผู้วิจัยได้วางแผนและเตรียมความพร้อมทางด้านการฝึกซ้อมตามประเภทของบทเพลงทั้ง 3 อย่างถูกต้องตามขนบธรรมเนียมจากผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิทางด้านการขับร้องและศิลปินต้นแบบหลาย ๆ ท่าน รวมถึงการเตรียมพร้อมด้านร่างกายและจิตใจเพื่อให้การฝึกซ้อมและการแสดงในวันแสดงจริงเกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด ตลอดจนการเตรียมพร้อมทางด้านสถานที่และด้านอื่น ๆ ที่จะทำให้การแสดงเกิดขึ้นอย่างไม่มีจุดบกพร่อง

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องการดำเนินทำนองซออู้เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษาใน วงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาและการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษา สำหรับการบรรเลงในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ผลการศึกษาพบว่าซออู้เป็นเครื่องดนตรีที่มีความสำคัญเป็นอย่างยิ่งในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวา การบรรเลงซออู้ของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาต้องใช้ทักษะขั้นสูงในการปฏิบัติ มีความรู้แตกฉาน บรรลุนิติภาวะทางดนตรี สามารถเลือกใช้สำนวนกลอนอย่างเหมาะสม สร้างสีสันให้แก่วง และสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางดนตรี ผู้บรรเลงต้องแม่นยำในทำนองหลักและมีปฏิภาณไหวพริบที่ต้องตัดสินใจและปฏิบัติรวดเร็ว เนื่องจากวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาเป็นวงที่มีแนวในการบรรเลงเร็วผู้บรรเลงต้องมีวิธีในการผูกทำนองเพื่อให้การดำเนินทำนองของซออู้มีคุณภาพ โดดเด่น และเกิดความสมดุลในการบรรเลงรวมวง เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ใช้กลวิธีในการดำเนินทำนองซออู้ได้แก่ 1. การล้วงจังหวะ 2. การย้อยจังหวะ 3. การโดดเสียง 4. การกล้ำเสียง 5. การย้ำเสียง 6. การรูดนิ้ว 7. การสะบัดนิ้ว 8. การสะบัดคันชัก 9. การพรมนิ้ว 10. การเน้นคันชัก ลักษณะดังกล่าวเป็นการดำเนินทำนองเฉพาะของครูจีรพล เพชรสมในการสร้างเสียงซออู้ที่เป็นเป็นเครื่องดนตรีเสียงทุ้มต่ำให้ปรากฏเสียงดัง ฟังชัด ไพเราะและอรรถรสในการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวา

Numerous music therapy models have been formulated for implementation in the field of mental healthcare. However, few have specifically focused on the features and contexts of short-term therapy in acute psychiatric settings. The purpose of this narrative review was to identify music therapy interventions utilized in short-term music therapy with acute psychiatric patients. Studies that described interventions with acute psychiatric patients in short-term music therapy were selected based on the keyword searches of computerized databases, hand searches, and authoritative texts. Eleven papers met the inclusion criteria. They were published during 2004-2022. The majority of papers were conducted in the USA. …

This research examines the significance of music therapy intervention on ego resilience in the emotional growth of teenagers, particularly in relation to anger management. Adolescents experience intense emotions, including anger, which can be challenging to manage. Effective emotion regulation is essential for healthy psychological functioning, and ego resilience plays a critical role in this process. This paper investigates the use of music therapy to support of ego resilience to the execution of personal development and use of adaptive anger management strategies in adolescence.
