The white paper on Business Models for Open Access proposes that there is no single ideal business model for Open Access that can be adopted as standard. It describes the current landscape in which there are multiple approaches to OA publishing, many of which are adopted by OPERAS members to suit their particular circumstances, although the APC and BPC models still predominate especially among commercial publishers. This report, prepared by the staff of the Global Legal Research Directorate of the Law Library of Congress, surveys laws regulating the mandatory legal deposit of electronic materials. Fifteen countries representing different approaches to collecting, describing, preserving, and storing digital and non-print documents and providing access to them are included in the study. To support SJSU’s College of Science's efforts to identify and quantify science faculty research publications for fund disbursement, we compiled a bibliography of science faculty research and scholarship. The citation lists would be used to develop and formalize baseline research metrics. We used existing and available resources including librarian time, subscribed science databases, and the institution-subscribed reference citation manager.

In fall 2017, we initiated a migration of the University of Western Ontario’s 32 library-hosted journals from the bepress Digital Commons platform to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. This was a response to concerns expressed by librarians and journal editors regarding potential implications of Elsevier’s August 2017 acquisition of bepress, including the possibility that Elsevier might place ads on their journal pages or increase fees for journal-hosting services. In today’s academic publishing environment, open access journals have become an increasingly common and used venue for publication by STEM faculty and researchers. Subject librarians at one of the largest public research institutions in the United States are tailoring workshops geared towards faculty to create awareness of predatory publishing. Our research question involved identifying STEM faculty at our institution who have published in questionable journals and bringing this to their attention through a series of faculty workshops.

The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)’s Academic Resources & Repository System (CALASYS) is an important initiative to curate its members’ research works, the organizational archival materials, and other cultural resources. CALASYS uses Omeka, an open source web-publishing platform, to store, link, display, and exhibit its collections. During its development, several aspects of the platform have been significantly improved due to the effort of the CALASYS Group and the CALA members.
