This study was designed to investigate the awareness and utilization of electronic databases for scholarly research by faculty of education lecturers in federal universities in South East, Nigeria. The present study examines the Bibliometric Analysis of Publication Trends in Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science (SRMVCAS) during 2001-2020 using the Scopus database. Its goal is to look at how SRMVCAS’s research activity has grown and developed as evidenced by its publication output. A total of 740 records have been obtained and studied in accordance with the goals. During the study period, more articles published in 2017 and 2020 with 83 (11.22%) articles and the highest number of papers published in Optik journal (59) and ranked first. This presentation examines the applicability of bibliometrics for assessing the scholarship of faculty librarians at American research universities. This review includes a comparison of publication rates in academic disciplines and librarianship, as well as between areas within librarianship. It concludes by suggesting the importance of understanding disciplinary norms when considering using publishing statistics in retention, tenure, and promotion decisions.

Books play an essential role in scholarly communication, notably but not only within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Open science benefits the quality and value of research and scholarship. If open access is to benefit society as widely as possible, it is logical to include academic books. In a 2019 briefing paper, Science Europe reported that: “Open access to academic books must be considered in the wider open access policies developed by research institutions, funders, and governments.”

Title of a research article is an abstract of the abstract. Titles play a decisive role in convincing readers at first sight whether articles are worth reading or not. Not only do research article titles show how carefully words are chosen by authors, but also reflect disciplinary differences in terms of title words and structure between hard sciences and soft sciences. Commercial publishing houses dominate the academic publishing sector, and they discourage the sharing culture to protect business interests. Authors and institutions have no control over the publishing processes and lost the copyright on the works after publishing. The traditional model of publishing gives more financial commitment to authors. Self-publishing gives full control to the authors over the publishing processes. Open Access model gives the publications faster impact and greater user engagement. This article shares the experience of self-publishing an Open Access book in a higher education institution.

For the scientometric analysis, we extracted data from the Science Citation Index database, Web of Science (Core Collection) using a searched query. Classification schemes for scientific activity and publications underpin a large swath of research evaluation practices at the organizational, governmental, and national levels. Several research classifications are currently in use, and they require continuous work as new classification techniques becomes available and as new research topics emerge. Convolutional neural networks, a subset of “deep learning” approaches, have recently offered novel and highly performant methods for classifying voluminous corpora of text. The study explores the adoption of Koha ILMS in the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) and Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IITBBS). The particular study researcher adopted the survey method and questionnaire tool used for data collection. The finding of the study shows both institutes are using commercial software before adopting Koha. Institutes migrate their data from old ILMS to Koha; Only IITBBS faces data quality problems during migration. Almost all of Koha modules have well received by both institutes. In 1998, the Boyer Commission on Educating Undergraduates in the Research University suggested that undergraduate students should be involved in research to improve their learning. Undergraduate research publications arose partially as a response to this suggestion because they allow students to engage in experiential learning. They also allow students to see research as serving a larger purpose rather than simply satisfying a requirement for a grade. In May 2019, the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana was awarded a $525,000 grant from Lilly Endowment to improve student success and retention by supporting the use of open course materials across the 24 private institutional members. Since then, the PALSave administration team has reached over 100 faculty members across Indiana, created an adoption pilot program, and received over 40 faculty reviews for the Open Textbook Library. Now, PALSave is developing a publishing program, with full funding for five textbook creations over five years. The hands on learning opportunities are focused on publishing production workflows, including: CV checking; author rights and permissions for depositing faculty papers in the UTA’s institutional repository; and creating a research metrics report to provide alternative impact measurements of the faculty’s publications in support of tenure and promotion packet of materials.
