Founded in the fall of 2011, The Keep has grown to include over 27,000 documents, making it one of the largest bepress repositories in the Midwest. Researchers at the University of Central Florida have access to support for acquiring and managing grants, writing and publishing research results, and performing computational analysis of large data. However, until recently these services were not coordinated at the institutional level and there was no clearinghouse to connect researchers to available support. In response, the UCF Libraries, with input from faculty and relevant campus units, developed a mental model of support and services of interest to university researchers. Interest in student peer-reviewed open-access journals is beginning to grow. Our presentation will explore what it takes to produce such a journal and what it delivers in terms of student experience. We begin with an overview of the value of student research. We will also address student involvement in the Scholarly Communication process, as presented in ACRL's publication Intersections of Scholarly Communication and Information Literacy. Library faculty at the City University of New York (CUNY) have engaged in promoting and advocating for open access publishing at each of our campuses as well as across the University. Inspired by the passing of a faculty senate resolution in support of the creation of an open access institutional repository and associated policies, many CUNY librarians felt the need to raise their level of commitment. Recent developments in academic research and publishing have presented faculty with many challenges and opportunities. As Geneseo faculty sought help from Milne librarians on these issues, it became apparent that if we wanted to meet faculty needs we had to investigate how faculty were researching and publishing in the changing environment. To answer these questions, librarians from Milne interviewed eighty-seven Geneseo professors during the 2010-2011 and part of 2011-2012 academic years. The responses were compiled and analyzed after identifying information was removed. Librarians at Milne prepared reports focused on overarching themes that surfaced again and again in the interviews: Undergraduate …

Scholarly communication is at an unprecedented turning point created in part by the increasing saliency of data stewardship and data sharing. Formal data management plans represent a new emphasis in research, enabling access to data at higher volumes and more quickly, and the potential for replication and augmentation of existing research. Data sharing has recently transformed the practice, scope, content, and applicability of research in several disciplines, in particular in relation to spatially specific data. It appears beyond dispute that under the current federal system small copyright claimants face formidable challenges in seeking to enforce the exclusive rights to which they are entitled. The Copyright Office therefore recommends that Congress consider the creation of an alternative forum that will enable copyright owners to pursue small infringement matters and related claims arising under the Copyright Act.
