In October, 2014, the University at Albany Libraries launched Scholars Archive (SA), the University’s Institutional Repository (IR). Our first year of trial and error generated mixed results and low participation by non-library faculty. In year two, we redeveloped our strategy to yield benefits beyond simply increasing repository content. The new approach has three prongs: targeting outreach to deans, department heads and campus wide meetings instead of targeting to individual faculty members; second, we now provide a “full service” model for submitting content instead of merely mediating a “self-service” workflow model; third, we strategically highlight the IR platform’s available metrics to …

In February 2016, Charlene Maxey-Harris proposed a charge to the UNL Libraries faculty to review the local liaison program. The original charge was for the creation of a team to investigate different, new liaison models and research that will allow the Libraries to restructure the current system to develop more collaborative partnerships with research centers and departments; improve the way liaisons communicate and interact with departments, research centers, and other new campus initiatives; allow liaisons to work in their areas of strength; and find ways to assess the impact of liaison engagement and outreach. Institutional And Individual Factors Affecting Scientists' Data-Sharing Behaviors: A Multilevel Analysis, Youngseek Kim, Jeffrey M. Stanton

The objective of this research was to investigate the institutional and individual factors that influence scientists' data-sharing behaviors across different scientific disciplines. Two theoretical perspectives, institutional theory, and theory of planned behavior, were employed in developing a research model that showed the complementary nature of the institutional and individual factors influencing scientists' data-sharing behaviors. This research used a survey method to examine to what extent those institutional and individual factors influence scientists' data-sharing behaviors in a range of scientific disciplines. This session will demonstrate how to put the values of librarianship into practice at your institution by addressing the publishing needs of your faculty. At Loyola Marymount University, a medium-size, private institution, three librarians were tasked to assist faculty in the publishing process, in particular, help faculty choose credible and reliable journals in which to publish. Effective Collaborations In Multi-Campus And Online Environments Using Libguides, Rebecca Rose, Mary Ann Cullen, Sofia A. Slutskaya

The paper presents a series of case studies that describe and demonstrate successful collaborations created via partnerships with instructors, departments, and other groups in both multi-campus and online environments at Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) where all three authors worked together as librarians for five years. The case studies illustrate the use of LibGuides in building librarian-librarian and librarian-­faculty partnerships to support teaching and other campus activities. This discussion includes successful strategies for establishing connections and adopting LibGuides as communication tool for collaborative projects.

Extending The Institutional Repository To Include Undergraduate Research, Eleta Exline

While a primary strategy of scholarly communication initiatives has been to encourage faculty participation in institutional repositories (IRs), with some process and workflow customization, IR participation can be successfully extended to undergraduate students, with benefits to both the student and institution. Drawing observations from the University of New Hampshire Library's work collecting undergraduate honors theses and other student research, this article discusses customization strategies for creating an effective workflow for student self-deposit using an iterative, feedback-based approach, and the benefits, challenges,and potential concerns of encouraging undergraduate participation in institutional repositories.

Engineering faculty are drawn to altmetrics for a more complete picture of real world impact while simultaneously dubious of the validity of these emerging measures. How does an academic library go about growing its own Scholarly Communication (SC) program with no budget, no staff, no dedicated office space, no partners, and no experience? The University of Central Florida Libraries responded to such a challenge during 2012-15 by creating a grassroots SC program staffed by a volunteer 20-member library faculty advisory group and creating an innovative “Research Lifecycle” model to help define an evolving menu of SC resources and services that could be turned on, as available, to UCF constituents.
