"Where do I start?" This is often a question that students ask when beginning their research. It's a question that Credo Reference wants to answer with its new product, Topic Pages. Topic Pages offers an all-in-one starting point for more than 10,000 popular research topics. The pages are designed to offer context and vocabulary, subject orientation, and pathways to further exploration. They include simple definitions, encyclopedia entries, tag clouds showing the vocabulary of the topic, images, and a tide list of the most common references from subject encyclopedia articles. Content is drawn from Credo Reference and beyond.

Open Access Availability Of Publications Of Faculty In Three Engineering Disciplines, Virginia A. Baldwin
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Presentations
The analysis presented here provides a snapshot in time of the open access online availability of the five most recent works of engineering faculty in five institutions that overall have heavily populated institutional repositories. The incentive for the study was to provide a measure of the inclination of engineering faculty in specific disciplines to provide open access to their most current manuscripts or articles. The Web of Science database was used to choose the five most recent publications for each faculty member in each of three disciplines: civil, chemical, and mechanical engineering. The study was done for the five United …

Textual Appropriation In Engineering Master's Theses: A Preliminary Study, Edward J. Eckel
University Libraries Faculty & Staff Publications
In the thesis literature review, an engineering graduate student is expected to place original research in the context of previous work by other researchers. However, for some students, particularly those for whom English is a second language, the literature review may be a mixture of original writing and verbatim source text appropriated without quotations. Such problematic use of source material leaves students vulnerable to an accusation of plagiarism, which carries severe consequences. Is such textual appropriation common in engineering master’s writing? Furthermore, what, if anything, can be concluded when two texts have been found to have textual material in common? …
