A Survey Of Copyright Workflows For Institutional Repositories (Poster Session), Ann Hanlon, Marisa Ramirez
Library Faculty Research and Publications
Many institutional repositories (IRs) provide open access to published work. The authors of those works typically transfer copyright or exclusive distribution rights for their work to their publisher. This means the author cannot themselves grant permission for deposit in the IR; rather permissions must be secured from the publisher. In Fall 2009, the authors conducted a survey of institutional repository managers to gain a clearer understanding of the staffing, resources, activities and tools employed to clear copyright for published work, with the intent to deposit into an IR. This poster summarizes preliminary findings.

Using youth participants’ independent reading logs, we will compare what we expected students to enjoy reading with what youth chose to read. A discussion will include lessons learned about collection development for out-of-school youth and how libraries can improve access for struggling adolescent readers.

The learning paradigm conceived of the librarians as reciprocal learning and research partners, positioning the lived experiences and authentic interests of the students as central to the internship. Safety And Security In Urban Academic Libraries: A Risk Assessment Approach To Emergency Preparedness, Thomas Edgar Raffensperger
Urban Library Journal
Academic libraries have developed a wide range of emergency preparedness policies, procedures, and training programs. Libraries have traditionally focused on the recovery of collections after an emergency. Risk assessment has focused on collections, largely as an outgrowth of valuation for insurance purposes and the core responsibility of libraries to safeguard collections. Risk assessment has rarely been systematically applied to personal safety and security. There is an anecdotal sense that urban academic libraries are subject to higher risk from property and violent crime than other academic libraries. This study examines the level of risk of property and violent crime using Clery …
