Digitizing Medical Illustrations From The Heart Bulletin + The Role Of Art In The Medical Field, Johana Canales

The Houston-based Medical Arts Publishing Foundation produced illustrated medical publications like the Cancer Bulletin, Heart Bulletin, and Psychiatric Bulletin. The Foundation’s records began arriving at the McGovern Historical Center in 1992. Since then, some of the collection’s medical illustrations had already been digitized, including several complete issues of the Psychiatric Bulletin from 1950-1960 and the Heart Bulletin’s medical illustrations series from 1951 and 1964.

Demystifying Shibboleth: Adapting To Web Browser Privacy Changes, Simon Robins, Ben Daigle

University of Dayton Libraries added Shibboleth as an additional form of authentication for its licensed e-resources beginning in summer 2023. A major impetus for pursuing Shibboleth are the upcoming web browser changes that will obfuscate users’ IP addresses, set to occur in later 2023 and 2024 and something which will likely disrupt on-campus IP range access via EZproxy. Implementation of Shibboleth for an initial round of fifty-five e-resource platforms was relatively quick as a result of the University of Dayton’s participation in the InCommon Federation of U.S. higher education institutions, also known as an “authentication federation.” Methods for achieving the …

The most important aspect of any library is its patrons. Any library’s goal is to determine what its users need, meet those needs, and satisfy them to the best of its ability. When it comes to public libraries, they face greater challenges in meeting the requirements of their increasingly diverse readership. The present study is an attempt to analyze the awareness and usage of the information sources and services offered by the D.V.G. public library, Kolar. Dr. Desmond (1916-2003) contributed to the fields of pediatrics and neonatology during her long tenure (1948-1986) on the pediatrics faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and service to Jefferson Davis Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital.

From Vision To Legacy: Walter Gellhorn And The Establishment Of The Toshiba Library For Japanese Legal Research, Yukino Nakashima

Journal of East Asian Libraries

This paper chronicles events surrounding the creation of the largest academic Japanese law library in the United States, while focusing on two extraordinary law faculty members at Columbia Law School and their successful fundraising efforts from the initial concept of building a Japanese law library through the establishment of permanent funding. It recounts others who tirelessly supported carrying through this arduous plan. It is about insightful visions, perseverance, and lasting personal relationships, as well as building a foreign law collection in the United States. It examines lessons to be learned.

At Minnesota State University Mankato (MNSU), we have been exploring new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for journal packages. Most recently, we started developing subject-package measures as a category, including as a measure of utility or as a measure of supply. Although we could previously combine filters per subject and per package, this caused us to narrow data to a single subject. Now, we can display the results for all subjects and packages as one table, which empowers us to make comparisons easily, to understand the value we gain from our packages better, and to see any subject impacts of cancellations …
