Like many academic libraries, the Leatherby Libraries at Chapman University (USA) is committed to supporting and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for students, faculty, researchers, and staff and has increased its efforts in the last several years to reflect that commitment through its resources, services, and outreach activities. However, in the wider literature, the efforts of scholarly communication librarians in DEI initiatives outside of openaccess advocacy are less discussed. The Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library invite to the 2024 Book & Author Event featuring Jennifer M. Ross-Nazzal, PhD author of Making Space for Women: Stories from Trailblazing Women of NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Dr. Ross-Nazzal, winner of the 2023 Liz Carpenter Award for Best Book on the History of Women will challenge perceptions and opens STEM fields—including space medicine—to new generations of women by bringing forth twenty-one engaging interviews conducted for the NASA Oral History Project in this compelling volume.

Two recent trends in collection development include finding new ways to bring patron voices into collection development and developing strategies for increasing the diversity and representation within collections. Indiana University Southeast (IU Southeast) Library recently developed a project that combined these two strategic directions by embedding an acquisition experience that used students enrolled in a sophomore block elementary education course to use the Diverse Book Finder (DBF) to select diverse picture books for the IU Southeast collection. Although public and school libraries, as well as many non-profit organizations regularly utilize volunteers, academic libraries are less likely to welcome them. This article describes the variety of volunteers received at Brown Library of Abilene Christian University and the tasks that they perform. It also presents a discussion of the motivation to accept volunteers, perhaps a faith practice.
