Some first ladies are often condemned for being too involved with the presidents' power in politics and other first ladies find themselves condemned for the lack of involvement. The purpose of the present article is to demonstrate the importance of counter-framing for the outcome of social movements. To do so, I focus on a particular case, namely Romanian society during the first half of 1990. The research identifies some strategies of the ruling group to create and impose their own framework and to align it with the interests of the people. It is based on content analysis of a Romanian daily newspaper faithful to the government, employing grounded theory as the method of research. Makalah ini berargumen bahwa novel The Year of Living mengkonstruksi realitas melalui framing image Sukarno sebagai seorang pemimpin otoriter. Hal ini diteliti melalui analisis dialog yang terjadi antara tokoh-tokoh fiktif dan narasi-narasi yang berkaitan dengan Sukarno dan Indonesia di tahun 1965. Penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa pengarang melakukan framing image otoriter terhadap Sukarno melalui metafora dan julukan negatif sehingga mengarahkan khalayak kepada sudut pandang yang diinginkan pengarang. Exemplars yang menceritakan kondisi Indonesia di tahun 1965 juga turut memperkuat framing image otoriter Sukarno.

This article discusses about the gender role played by female military officers members of the Army Women’s Corps (Korps Wanita Angkatan Darat/Kowad) represented by the magazine Melati Pagar Bangsa. The writer reveals the dominant ideology behind such representations by employing standpoint theory supported by existentialist feminism to strengthen the basic assumptions of this article. The research findings show that to produce a discourse on gender roles, women are still influenced by dominant ideology, being patriarchy. On the other hand, they also try to emancipate themselves from the binds of patriarchic culture by being subjects for themselves.

Penelitian ini membahas resistensi pekerja perempuan terhadap dominasi pekerja lakilakidalam film North Country, bertujuan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana ideologi patriarki berperan dalam menentukan identitas serta mitos kehidupan perempuan pekerja yang muncul lewat tanda dan bahasa dalam film. Pertama, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pekerja perempuan mengalami ketidakadilan gender seperti kekerasan dalam rumah tangga, stereotip, dan marginalisasi. Kedua, industri Hollywood bukan hanya mewacanakan persamaan hak gender, tetapi juga sebagai media sosialisasi mengenai masa depan ekonomi tanpa batas dalam sistem kapitalisme. This study examines the relationship between the media, attitudes towards supporting war, and military awareness. Online survey data were collected from a four-year university located in a heavily militarized area. This study found that having knowledge of Afghanistan and Iraq War facts negatively affected one's decision to support war and was the strongest predictor of this decision. The media was not found to be a significant predictor impacting this knowledge when controlling for other variables. Political ideology and other related variables were found to be more influential of this knowledge. These findings imply that the public may be imprudently supporting …

The discussion of mental health issues in the media significantly shapes public perceptions, most notably in negative portrayals that contribute to the stereotyping of mental health patients. Globalization has intensified the interaction and interdependency among countries. The need to maintain good reputation and establish good relationships should dominate public diplomacy efforts (Hiebert, 2005). Using the US financial crisis 2008 as a case study, this study examines how the world's only superpower repaired its image when it was accused of triggering the financial meltdown that impacted the world economy. Few studies have examined repair strategies by nations. Hurricane Katrina is widely regarded as the greatest natural disaster to ever befall the United States. Following the storm’s devastation of the Gulf Coast region, a media firestorm unleashed, seeking to ascribe responsibility to governmental actors for the “failed” response effort. The United States Supreme Court has an uneasy relationship with openness: it complies with some calls for transparency, drags its feet in response to others, and sometimes simply refuses to go along. I argue that the Court’s position is understandable given that the internet age of fluid information and openness has often been heralded in terms that are antithetical to the Court’s operations. Even so, I also argue the Court actually has little to fear from greater transparency.
