African Children’S Choir To Perform At Cedarville University, Jennifer Taggart

The African Children’s Choir will perform at Cedarville University Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center.The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

The choir is part of the Music for Life Institute, an international organization that brings humanitarian aid to African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. The organization operates out of Canada, the UK, South Africa and China in addition to the United States.

For two forensic science students at Cedarville University, doing an internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is their first step in securing a dream job.

The seniors, Danielle Banks, from Lexington, Kentucky, and Mayra Chavez, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, were chosen from a national pool of applicants for the FBI’s Honors Internship Program. Both Banks and Chavez used the past summer to begin learning from practical experience with the FBI agency in their hometown. Banks and Chavez are the first Cedarville students to be chosen for the highly competitive program.

Cedarville geology and geoscience students are working on two senior projects using an Unmanned Aerial System(UAS), or a drone, as part of a partnership with Remote Intelligence, LLC., in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.

Remote Intelligence is partnering with Cedarville to provide guidance and material resources to students. Cedarville and Remote Intelligence are also in preliminary talks to study how UAS systems could help in the planning, construction, and monitoring of natural gas pipelines.

The Politics of HPV Vaccination Advocacy:

Effects of Source Expertise on Effectiveness of a Pro-Vaccine Message

Persistent public resistance to an apparently safe, effective and life-saving public health practice such as HPV vaccination illustrates a significant issue in the communication of behavioral recommendations based on evidence-based scientific data and consensus views of scientific and medical experts. This study examines the influence of source expertise on pro-HPV-vaccine advocacy messaging effectiveness among audiences of differing political ideologies. The findings support prior research indicating greater resistance to HPV vaccination among political conservatives. Students at Cedarville University have been competing in cardboard canoe races for the past 20 years to launch Homecoming Weekend. This year, the competition will be held on Cedar Lake on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.

The cardboard canoe tradition started as a class assignment for engineering students but it has evolved to include students from all different majors. Each boat is made from 40 feet of cardboard and 100 meters of packaging tape. The goal is to travel from the northern to the southern part of the lake without sinking. A team of six Cedarville University engineering students will showcase its work at the Meeting of the Minds Conference in Detroit, Michigan, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

Cedarville’s team will display its Urban Concept car that it raced in July at the Shell Eco-Marathon in Houston, Texas. Shell invited Larry Zavodney, Ph.D., senior professor of mechanical engineering, and the team to display the car and showcase the students’ design in two workshop tours on the future of urban design and mobility. Other student participants will include University of Detroit Jesuit High School students displaying its two prototype vehicles.
