For three Cedarville University engineering students, a summer internship is much more than just a chance to gain real-world experience; it’s a chance to make a difference in the lives of people around the world.
This summer, Dillon Henschen (computer engineering, senior, Wolcottville, Ind.), Anne Shipman (electrical engineering, senior, Winchendon, Mass.) and Michael Tapia (electrical engineering, graduate, Lakewood, N.J.) will work for SonSet Solutions to design software and hardware for use in a variety of equipment.

A team of freshmen and sophomore engineering students from Cedarville University completed a three-peat in the Autonomous Robotics Competition at the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference in Seattle this week.
Cedarville’s robot, named Hermit, earned 291.51 points to finish well ahead of second-place Monroe Community College, which recorded 226.63 points. The championship is the third-straight for Cedarville, which won the competition in Atlanta in 2013 and Indianapolis last year.

The 2015 World Solar Splash championship returned to the Miami Valley as Cedarville University won the competition with an impressive 932.44 score (out of 1,000 points) over the four-day event. The competition was held June 10-14 at Eastwood MetroPark in Dayton.

A member of the Cedarville University class of 2019 has already joined the ranks of the nation’s elite students. Lindsey Carroll, who intends to study computer science at Cedarville in the fall, scored a perfect 1,600 on her SAT last summer.
Thanks to her perfect score, Carroll has been awarded multiple academic scholarships, including the prestigious President’s Scholar and Special Scholar Awards, which will cover the full cost of tuition at Cedarville.

With the birthplace of aviation serving as the location, the 21st annual World Solar Splash Championships will return to Dayton from June 10-14 at Eastwood Park. Cedarville University will host the event for the second-straight year as teams from universities all over the world compete.
Tim Dewhurst, Ph.D., senior professor of mechanical engineering and faculty adviser for Cedarville’s solar boat team, was instrumental in bringing the competition to Dayton last year and expects this year’s event to be just as successful as it was in 2014.

Lt. Gen. Loren Reno, a 38-year veteran of the United States Air Force and the inaugural dean of Cedarville University’s School of Business Administration, has been appointed interim vice president for academics.
As the dean of the school of business administration since 2012, Reno is credited for increased enrollment, high rates for career placement and the CPA exam. Previous research has suggested that targeted online advertising is more effective when users have a preexisting interest in a product or service. While technology now allows marketers to track the demographics and behaviors of potential customers, the current research examines online ad-perception at an individual level, specifically focused on differences in need-for-cognition. Participants were asked to read a short online news article and were randomly assigned to view a webpage containing either gender-neutral or gender-targeted advertisements. While it was predicted that advertisement recall would be stronger for targeted than non-targeted advertisements, no such association was found. Additionally, advertisement recall did …
