This content analysis centers on a comparison of reporting content between mainstream print media and citizen journalism, pertaining to high-publicity deaths of African American individuals caused by police officers. The deaths focused upon in this paper include Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York; Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri; Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio; and Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Maryland. For the purposes of this paper, the mainstream print outlets examined are The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. Advanced Twitter searches using the Topsy search engine have been utilized to document citizen journalism reports. Through …

This project aims to explore the practice, value and impact of newspaper design and how its principles can be applied to construct a coherent visual identity for a college newspaper. The first part will examine primary and secondary sources on visual journalism, including both theoretical and visual analysis of renowned newspaper designs around the world. The second part focuses on designing a complete visual overhaul for The Carroll News. Yorba-Chapman Writing Partnership Anthology of Journalistic Writing
During the Spring 2016 semester, Dr. Noah Asher Golden's Teaching of Writing K-12 students partnered with the Journalism class at Yorba Academy for the Arts. Through collaboration over a four-month period, Chapman's future teachers and Yorba's junior high journalists engaged a deep writing process to write a series of features, editorials, and news articles, all connected in some way to the overarching theme of safety. Thank you to Ms. Andrea Lopez, Ms. Tracy Knibb, and the Lloyd E. and Elisabeth H. Klein Family Foundation for supporting this project.

This thesis will explore, and attempt to define, what redemptive storytelling is within the field of journalism. Storytelling is a practice as old as humanity itself. Indeed, it is ancient, originating in the mind of God, the author of the greatest story ever told. Books written by experts in the field of storytelling, as well as scholarly articles, will be utilized. Aside from journalism, aspects of psychology, theology, and philosophy will be included in the consideration of what makes a story redemptive. The U.S. presidential election of 2016 been on the minds of DePaul students and faculty since at least the fall of 2015. Students, faculty and alumni in areas as diverse as real estate, public relations, political science and marketing have also been discussing state and local politics, spin and social media, pundits, debates and much more. Interviews with these various constituents illuminate the different approaches to learning about, working with, and changing the American political system. The impact of social media on the presidential election process is also explored.
