Media Framing Of Moldova’S Democracy Between 1991 And 2014, Ecaterina Stepaniuc
Dissertations
This dissertation work seeks to analyze the implications of government and independent owned media outlets framing democracy in the Republic of Moldova from 1991 until 2014. Existing literature reports on the decisive role media played in the process of democratization when referring to former Soviet republics. To understand the role Moldovan media played in the democratization process, the author applied content analysis of three print publications and one televised news program to examine Moldova’s democracy between 1991 and 2014.
The sample consisted of 346 Mesager script news stories aired on the public TV station in Moldova, and 608 newspaper articles …

The 2016 presidential election was one of the first elections to see new media play a large role. While also being the first presidential election many millennials could vote in, this research paper looks at how different generations used various news sources to receive political news in 2016. The paper is supported by a documentary video case-study of the author's close close family and friends' perception of political news in 2016.

News media are in turmoil as the public is less informed and more polarized than ever. This issue dates back to the late 1970s, and early 1980s when corporations took over news organizations and began to demand profits out of them. This changed news from a public good to a business. As this business model began to develop, the news industry experienced layoffs, a decrease in quality, increase in quantity, and enhanced importance placed on advertising. The current news is delegitimized and polarized, with citizens being able to choose from where they get their news, thus eliminating shared experiences among …

Coastal resources play a vital role in Maine’s cultural and economic wellbeing, contributing an estimated 168 billion dollars to the Maine economy. There are numerous risks to the sustainability of Maine’s shellfishing industry and working waterfront, including pathogenic bacterial pollution. In this study, we ask a broad fundamental question central to science and environmental journalism: how do newspapers cover localized environmental risks and what are the implications of those approaches? Utilizing the northeastern US state of Maine’s shellfishing industry as an exemplar environmental issue, this study examines how Maine’s two most read newspapers, the Bangor Daily News and the Portland …

History Of Journalism Education: An Analysis Of 100 Years Of Journalism Education, Hilary Akers Dunn
LSU Master's Theses
This quantitative content analysis uses course descriptions to find changes in journalism education at the University of Missouri, Louisiana State University, and the University of North Carolina over 100 years. This study found that there are two influencing factors that are inherent to the journalism profession: advances in technology and the maturity of the profession itself. These two influencing factors produced changes in technology used in curriculum, course focus (e.g. skill, theory, general knowledge, and history), and course topics (e.g. advertising, broadcasting, public relations, etc.) This study also found that leadership is the most influential factor of change in journalism …
