Weighted Composition Operators On Analytic Function Spaces: Some Recent Progress, Dip Acharyya 2018 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Weighted Composition Operators On Analytic Function Spaces: Some Recent Progress, Dip Acharyya

Publications

Theory of Composition Operators is a steady point of interest for almost 100 years. While studying these operators, our general goal is to describe their operator theoretic properties in terms of the associated function symbols. In this talk, I will discuss some recent results concerning linear combinations (sums, differences, etc.) of weighted composition operators in certain spaces of Analytic functions.

Reducing The Maximum Degree Of A Graph By Deleting Vertices: The Extremal Cases, Peter Borg, Kurt Fenech 2018 University of Malta

Reducing The Maximum Degree Of A Graph By Deleting Vertices: The Extremal Cases, Peter Borg, Kurt Fenech

Theory & Applications of Graphs

Let λ(G) denote the smallest number of vertices that can be removed from a non-empty graph G so that the resulting graph has a smaller maximum degree. In a recent paper, we proved that if n is the number of vertices of G,k is the maximum degree of G, and t is the number of vertices of degree k, then λ: (G) ≤ n+(k-1)t}{2k}. We also showed that λ (G) ≤ \frac{n}{k+1} if G is a tree. In this paper, we provide a new proof of the first bound and use it to determine the graphs that …

On Robust Colorings Of Hamming-Distance Graphs, Isaiah Harney, Heide Gluesing-Luerssen 2018 University of Kentucky

On Robust Colorings Of Hamming-Distance Graphs, Isaiah Harney, Heide Gluesing-Luerssen

Mathematics Faculty Publications

Hq(n, d) is defined as the graph with vertex set Znq and where two vertices are adjacent if their Hamming distance is at least d. The chromatic number of these graphs is presented for various sets of parameters (q, n, d). For the 4-colorings of the graphs H2(n, n − 1) a notion of robustness is introduced. It is based on the tolerance of swapping colors along an edge without destroying properness of the coloring. An explicit description of the maximally robust 4-colorings of …

A Maximum Entropy Method For Solving The Boundary Value Problem Of Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations, Congming Jin, Jiu Ding 2018 Zhejian Sci-Tech University

A Maximum Entropy Method For Solving The Boundary Value Problem Of Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations, Congming Jin, Jiu Ding

Faculty Publications

We propose a new method to solve the boundary value problem for a class of second order linear ordinary differential equations, which has a non-negative solution. The method applies the maximum entropy principle to approximating the solution numerically. The theoretical analysis and numerical examples show that our method is convergent.

Mixed Degree Number Field Computations, John W. Jones, David P. Roberts 2018 Arizona State University

Mixed Degree Number Field Computations, John W. Jones, David P. Roberts

Mathematics Publications

We present a method for computing complete lists of number fields in cases where the Galois group, as an abstract group, appears as a Galois group in smaller degree. We apply this method to find the 25 octic fields with Galois group PSL₂(7) and smallest absolute discriminant. We carry out a number of related computations, including determining the octic field with Galois group 2³:GL₃(2) of smallest absolute discriminant.

Modeling And An Immersed Finite Element Method For An Interface Wave Equation, Jinwei Bai, Yong Cao, Xiaoming He, Hongyan Liu, Xiaofeng Yang 2018 Missouri University of Science and Technology

Modeling And An Immersed Finite Element Method For An Interface Wave Equation, Jinwei Bai, Yong Cao, Xiaoming He, Hongyan Liu, Xiaofeng Yang

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works

The electromagnetic field, which is governed by Maxwell's equation, plays a key role in plasma simulation. In this article, we first derive the interface conditions when we rewrite the interface Maxwell's equation, whose problem domain involves complex media such as objects of different materials, into a parabolic–hyperbolic type of interface model, which is a modified wave equation by adding a first order time derivative term due to the lossy medium. Based on the interface conditions and the existing bilinear immersed finite element space for the interface Poisson equation, we propose an immersed finite element method for the spatial discretization of …

Mukherjee

Mathematics Faculty Publications and Presentations

There is growing evidence that air pollution is a risk factor for a number of neurodegenerative diseases, most notably Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s (PD). It is generally assumed that the pathology of these diseases arises only later in life and commonly begins within olfactory eloquent pathways prior to the onset of the classical clinical symptoms. The present study demonstrates that chronic exposure to high levels of air pollution results in AD- and PD-related pathology within the olfactory bulbs of children and relatively young adults ranging in age from 11 months to 40 years. The olfactory bulbs (OBs) of 179 residents …
