The Prouhet-Terry-Escott Problem is a complex problem that still has much to be discovered. This fascinating problem shows up in many areas of mathematics such as the study of polynomials, graph theory, and the theory of integral quadratic forms.

The theory of supercharacters, recently developed by Diaconis-Isaacs and Andre, can be used to derive the fundamental algebraic properties of Ramanujan sums. This machinery frequently yields one-line proofs of difficult identities and provides many novel formulas. In addition to exhibiting a new application of supercharacter theory, this article also serves as a blueprint for future work since some of the abstract results we develop are applicable in much greater generality.

This thesis will focus on Euler's famous method for solving the infinite polynomial. It will show how he manipulated the sine function to find all possible points along the sine function such that the sine A would equal to y; these would be roots of the polynomial. It also shows how Euler set the infinite polynomial equal to the infinite product allowing him to determine which coefficients were equal to which reciprocals of the roots, roots squared, roots cubed, etc.

Authors in this book for the first time have constructed nonassociative structures like groupoids, quasi loops, non associative semirings and rings using finite complex modulo integers. The Smarandache analogue is also carried out. We see the nonassociative complex modulo integers groupoids satisfy several special identities like Moufang identity, Bol identity, right alternative and left alternative identities. P-complex modulo integer groupoids and idempotent complex modulo integer groupoids are introduced and characterized. This book has six chapters. The first one is introductory in nature. Second chapter introduces complex modulo integer groupoids and complex modulo integer loops.

In lattice theory the two well known equational class of lattices are the distributive lattices and the modular lattices. All distributive lattices are modular however a modular lattice in general is not distributive.

In this book, new classes of lattices called supermodular lattices and semi-supermodular lattices are introduced and characterized as follows: A subdirectly irreducible supermodular lattice is isomorphic to the two element chain lattice C2 or the five element modular lattice M3. A lattice L is supermodular if and only if L is a subdirect union of a two element chain C2 and the five element modular lattice M3.

On A Pair Of Identities From Ramanujan's Lost Notebook, James Mclaughlin, Andrew Sills

Using a pair of two variable series-product identities recorded by Ramanujan in the lost notebook as inspiration, we find some new identities of similar type. Each identity immediately implies an infinite family of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities, some of which are well-known identities from the literature. We also use these identities to derive some general identities for integer partitions.

We derive a new general transformation for WP-Bailey pairs by considering the a certain limiting case of a WP-Bailey chain previously found by the authors, and examine several consequences of this new transformation. These consequences include new summation formulae involving WP-Bailey pairs. Other consequences include new proofs of some classical identities due to Jacobi, Ramanujan and others, and indeed extend these identities to identities involving particular specializations of arbitrary WP-Bailey pairs.

Let pr,s(n) denote the number of partitions of a positive integer n into parts containing no multiples of r or s, where r > 1 and s > 1 are square-free, relatively prime integers. We use classical methods to derive a Hardy-Ramanujan-Rademacher-type infinite series for pr,s(n).

Warfield modules are direct summands of simply presented Zp - modules, or, alternatively, are Zp - modules possessing a nice decomposition basis with simply presented cokernel. They have been classified up to isomorphism by theor Ilm-Kaplansky and Warfield invariants. Taking a model theoretic point of view and using infinitary languages we give here a complete theoretic characterization of a large class of Zp - modules having a nice decomposition basis. As a corollary, we obtain the classical classification of countable Warfield modules. This generalizes results by Barwise and Eklof.

The Riemann zeta function ζ(s) is one of the most fundamental functions in number theory. Euler demonstrated that ζ(s) is closely connected to the prime numbers and Riemann gave proofs of the basic analytic properties of the zeta function. Values of the zeta function and its derivatives have been studied by several mathematicians. Apostol in particular gave a computable formula for the values of the derivatives of ζ(s) at s = 0. The discrete logarithm problem, and its adaptation to elliptic curves, called the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP) is an open problem in the field of number theory, and its applications to modern cryptographic algorithms are numerous. This paper focuses on a statistical analysis of a modification to the ECDLP, called the x-ECDLP, where one is only given the xcoordinate of a point, instead of the entire point.
