Solutions of the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation on a Lie superalgebra are called super dynamical r-matrices. A super dynamical r-matrix r satisfies the zero weight condition if

In this paper we explicitly quantize zero-weight super dynamical r-matrices with zero coupling constant for the Lie superalgebra gl(m, n) . We also answer some questions about super dynamical R-matrices. In particular, we prove a classification theorem and offer some support for one particular …

A matrix T∈Mn(C) is UECSM if it is unitarily equivalent to a complex symmetric (i.e., self-transpose) matrix. We develop several techniques for studying this property in dimensions three and four. Among other things, we completely characterize 4×4 nilpotent matrices which are UECSM and we settle an open problem which has lingered in the 3×3 case. We conclude with a discussion concerning a crucial difference which makes dimension three so different from dimensions four and above.

The matrix equation XA+AXT=0, which has relevance to the study of Lie algebras, was recently studied by De Terán and Dopico (Linear Algebra Appl. 434 (2011), 44–67). They reduced the study of this equation to several special cases and produced explicit solutions in most instances. In this note we obtain an explicit solution in one of the difficult cases, for which only the dimension of the solution space and an algorithm to find a basis of this space were known previously

We present two novel results about Hilbert space operators which are nilpotent of order two. First, we prove that such operators are indestructible complex symmetric operators, in the sense that tensoring them with any operator yields a complex symmetric operator. In fact, we prove that this property characterizes nilpotents of order two among all nonzero bounded operators. Second, we establish that every nilpotent of order two is unitarily equivalent to a truncated Toeplitz operator.

I still recall my thrill and disappointment when I read Mathematical Carnival, by Martin Gardner. I was thrilled because, as my high school teacher had recommended, mathematics was presented in a playful way that I had never seen before. I was disappointed because it contained a formula that I thought I had "invented" a few years earlier. I have always had a passion for mental calculation, and the following formula appears in Gardner's chapter on "Lightning Calculators." It was used by the mathematician A. C. Aitken to mentally square large numbers.

We study the finitary version of the coalgebraic logic introduced by L. Moss. The syntax of this logic, which is introduced uniformly with respect to a coalgebraic type functor, required to preserve weak pullbacks, extends that of classical propositional logic with a so-called coalgebraic cover modality depending on the type functor. Its semantics is defined in terms of a categorically defined relation lifting operation.
As the main contributions of our paper we introduce a derivation system, and prove that it provides a sound and complete axiomatization for the collection of coalgebraically valid inequalities. Our soundness and completeness proof is algebraic, …

Coalgebras for a functor model different types of transition systems in a uniform way. This paper focuses on a uniform account of finitary logics for set-based coalgebras. In particular, a general construction of a logic from an arbitrary set-functor is given and proven to be strongly complete under additional assumptions. We proceed in three parts.

This report documents the program and the outcomes of Dagstuhl Seminar 12411 “Coalgebraic Logics”. The seminar deals with recent developments in the area of coalgebraic logic, a branch of logics which combines modal logics with coalgebraic semantics. Modal logic finds its uses when reasoning about behavioural and temporal properties of computation and communication, coalgebras have evolved into a general theory of systems. Consequently, it is natural to combine both areas for a mathematical description of system specification. Coalgebraic logics are closely related to the broader categories semantics/formal methods and verification/logic.

We consider abelian groups with partial decomposition bases in Lδ∞ω for ordinals δ. Jacoby, Leistner, Loth and Str¨ungmann developed a numerical invariant deduced from the classical global Warfield invariant and proved that if two groups have identical modified Warfield invariants and Ulm-Kaplansky invariants up to ωδ for some ordinal δ, then they are equivalent in Lδ∞ω. Here we prove that the modified Warfield invariant is expressible in Lδ∞ω and hence the converse is true for appropriate δ.

In this paper we start the study of Schur analysis in the quaternionic setting using the theory of slice hyperholomorphic functions. The novelty of our approach is that slice hyperholomorphic functions allows to write realizations in terms of a suitable resolvent, the so called S-resolvent operator and to extend several results that hold in the complex case to the quaternionic case. We discuss reproducing kernels, positive definite functions in this setting and we show how they can be obtained in our setting using the extension operator and the slice regular product. In this paper we extend and solve in the class of functions RSI mentioned in the title, a number of problems originally set for the class RS of rational functions contractive in the open right-half plane, and unitary on the imaginary line with respect to some preassigned self-adjoint matrix. The problems we consider include the Schur algorithm, the partial realization problem and the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem. Motivated by the Schwartz space of tempered distributions S′ and the Kondratiev space of stochastic distributions S−1 we define a wide family of nuclear spaces which are increasing unions of (duals of) Hilbert spaces H′p,p∈N, with decreasing norms |⋅|p. The elements of these spaces are functions on a free commutative monoid. We consider the class of abelian groups possessing partial decomposition bases in Lδ∞ω for δ an ordinal. This class contains the class of Warfield groups which are direct summands of simply presented groups or, alternatively, are abelian groups possessing a nice decomposition basis with simply presented cokernel. We prove a classification theorem using numerical invariants that are deduced from the classical Ulm-Kaplansky and Warfield invariants. This extends earlier work by Barwise-Eklof, Göbel and the authors.

Unlike Toeplitz operators on H2, truncated Toeplitz operators do not have a natural matricial characterization. Consequently, these operators are difficult to study numerically. In this note we provide criteria for a matrix with distinct eigenvalues to be unitarily equivalent to a truncated Toeplitz operator having an analytic symbol. This test is constructive and we illustrate it with several examples. As a byproduct, we also prove that every complex symmetric operator on a Hilbert space of dimension < 3 is unitarily equivalent to a direct sum of truncated Toeplitz operators.
