The Attraction Of Interstate Radial Freeway Corridors For New Office Sites, Murray Frost, Armin K. Ludwig

This paper discuses the impact of Interstate radial freeway corridors upon the location of new office developments in the 1970-76 period in seven United States cities. Data indicated that in each of the seven cities, greater growth occurred outside of the downtown Core than in it. Growth of the office sites compared to previous development ranged from 12% to 110% in the Cores with an average of 24%, compared to 106% to 307% for non-Core areas with an average of 207%. Growth expressed in terms of gross square feet had a similar pattern. Of the 1970-76 office development, the greatest …

The structure of employment by industry and occupation in the Omaha Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) 1 has been changing. Trends in various industries and occupations in the Omaha SMSA do not, however, differ ·significantly from national trends. Agricultural employment is increasing in absolute numbers, but represents a declining proportion of the Omaha SMSA labor force, as is true for the nation. Similarly, employment in the manufacturing sector has become less and less important as a proportion of all employment. Daly Company agreed to provide specific research services regarding housing and community needs and desires of the Saudi Arabia National Guard (SANG). The specific objective of the study was to provide a sociological profile through survey research of the National Guard officer and enlistee, and where married of the officer/enlistee's family and/or dependents. In 1975, the median size bank had between $15 and $20 million of demand and time deposits.¹ Since banking structure is determined in large part by state regulations, the number and sizes of banks vary a great deal among the states. Size of market; availability and price of labor, materials and service; and proximity to supportive industry all weigh heavily. Party registration was the factor most associated with the mayoral vote, according to an analysis of survey data collected by CAUR in the five days preceding the May 10, 1977 election.¹ Although the pattern of votes in the non-partisan mayoral election was also associated with sex, geographical area, and age, the relationship was strongest for party registration. This dissertation reevaluates the controversial Disengagement Theory of aging introduced by Elaine Cumming and William E. Henry in their book, Growing Old (1961), with particular emphasis on aging in the city.

Disengagement theory embodies the antithesis to the traditional activity theory of aging based on a work ethic. Disengagement theory holds that normal aging is an inevitable mutual withdrawal or disengagement between the aging person and others in the social system, that it is universal, and that, by impl ication,it is a mutually satisfying condition since it results in a new equilibrium between society and the aging individual. Radial Freeways And The Growth Of Office Space In Central Cities, Armin K. Ludwig

Seven metropolitan areas were studied to determine the impact of freeways upon the location of office development and to estimate the economic impact of this development upon the community. Findings indicated a suburbanization of office space. New locations were heavily influenced by radial freeway corridors although circumferential corridors were proportionately more attractive (1970-1976 office site growth rates of 562% and 273% respectively, with 101% for non-interstate radial corridors). Freeways which increased accessibility of office workers and improved access to vacant land tended to attract office development; investment funds often were more readily available for radial freeway sites.
