Spatial Analysis Of Fatal Automobile Crashes In Kentucky, William Nathan Oris

Fatal automobile crashes have claimed the lives of over 33,000 people each year in the United States since 1995. As in any point event, fatal crash events do not occur randomly in time or space. The objectives of this study were to identify spatial patterns and hot spots in FARS (Fatal Analysis Reporting System) fatal crash events based on temporal and demographic characteristics. The methods employed included 1) rate calculation using FARS points and average daily traffic flow; 2) planar kernel density estimation of FARS crash events based on temporal and demographic attributes within the data; and 3) two case …

The Nebraska Legislature's Planning Committee was created in 2009 with the passage of LB 653, in order to help establish a process of long-term state planning with the Nebraska Legislature. The committee was created to assist state government in identifying emerging trends, assets, and challenges of the state and the long-term implications of the decisions made by the Nebraska Legislature.

The goals and benchmarks in the database were developed and approved by the Legislature's Planning Committee to present a common-sense and data-driven assessment of key areas important to Nebraskans' quality of life. This database is a joint initiative with the …

Selected Characteristics For Nebraska Legislative Districts From The 2006‐2010 American Community Survey, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)

On December 8, 2011, the U.S. Census Bureau released five‐year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates for the combined years of 2006 through 2010, making available social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for every community in Nebraska and the nation. Also available are estimates for Nebraska’s Legislative Districts.

The data are based on a rolling national sample survey mailed to about 3 million addresses each year, resulting in nearly 2 million final interviews each year from 2006 through 2010. By pooling several years of survey responses, the ACS can generate detailed statistical portraits of smaller geographies such as legislative districts. The …

In recent decades, legislators and administrators have created innovative policies to reduce the demand for expensive state confinement and to supervise as many young offenders as possible in their own communities. This report reviews the history and development of these strategies and portrays their methods as following one of three models: resolution, reinvestment, and realignment.

2010 Census Demographic Profile Summary Of Nebraska, David Drozd

Past Publications

The percentage of the population that is minority (non-White or Hispanic/Latino) increased between 2000 and 2010 in each 5-year age category (under 5 years through age 85 or older). The minority population comprises more than 30 percent of those under age 5 in 2010, roughly triple the percentage in 1990. See pages 3-4. Four Nebraska counties are “majorityminority” for those under age 5, and eight counties have 40 percent or more of their youngest children being minority.

Information from the 2000 Census released on March 15th by the US Census Bureau put Nebraska’s population at 1,711,263 persons. This was an 8.4 percent increase since the 1990 Census count.

The state’s population grew in two ways: births exceeded deaths, and more people moved into the state than moved out. The difference between births and deaths is referred to as natural change. If births exceed deaths, there is a natural increase in population; but if deaths exceed births, there is natural decrease in population. Parks And Obesity In Rural And Urban Nebraska, Michaela S. Wolf

Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses

In order to better understand the role community design plays in obesity rates, this project studies a potential relationship between distance of parks from homes and obesity rates in four Nebraska counties. Park use may contribute to important health benefits, such as reducing risk of obesity by increasing physical activity levels. There are limitations to park use, such as crime rates and facility upkeep that are important to understand so that they might be managed and communities can reap greater benefits from their parks, including better fitness.
