Over the past two decades, the ubiquitousness of the internet has created new reals in which artistic expression, dialogue, and commerce have flourished. Successive bushfire inquiries in Australia have called for authorities to more effectively harness and disseminate bushfire information. Recommendations from these inquiries suggest a new approach to bushfires involving greater co-ordination, in which home dwellers, emergency fire services and government work more closely together and acknowledge that education, safety, planning and emergency management can be effective responses to the threat of bushfire. Policymakers and community members are seeking to revise bushfire protocols and access new sources of authoritative information, which may help guide public responses. The last three decades have witnessed a proliferation of studies on the globalization of corruption or convergence of anticorruption strategies. These studies have been motivated by scholarly concerns from various administrative, economic, and political fields. In view of these interdisciplinary concerns, the purpose of this article is to provide a comparative analysis of corruption phenomena and the demand for public integrity because these developments pertain to the discourse on globalization issues in some South-Eastern European nations within the last decade. Arizona’S Senate Bill 1070: A Case Study On State-Sponsored Immigration Policy, Ryan Murphy

This study assesses the origins of Arizona’s state-sponsored immigration policy. It attempts to identify the social dynamics within Arizona that contributed to the overwhelming public support for SB 1070. Since it has been two years after the law was passed, this analysis determines what impact the law has had thus far within the state. Finally, it postulates the future of Arizona’s immigration policy.

On December 6, 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau released five-year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates for the combined years of 2007 through 2011, making available social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for every community in Nebraska and the nation. Also available are estimates for Nebraska’s counties.

The data are based on a rolling national sample survey mailed to about 2 million addresses each year, resulting in nearly 2 million final interviews each year from 2007 through 2011. By pooling several years of survey responses, the ACS can generate detailed statistical portraits of smaller geographies such as counties. The Census Bureau …

The Town of Cohasset is considering the construction of a new Senior Center that will provide the opportunity for expanded programming within a dedicated building. In support of planning efforts by the Town of Cohasset, a study was conducted by the Gerontology Institute of the McCormack Graduate School at UMass Boston. The study addresses the need for, and probable utilization of, a new Senior Center, and includes consideration of the recreational, educational and health-related programs that are likely to be offered through the new Center. The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Designed to provide security and equity to defined benefit (DB) pension plans, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) became law in 1974. Since that time, the economy has shifted to a more globalized, non-unionized, service-based environment, where defined contribution (DC) plans replaced DB plans as the dominant type of private pension plan. Today workers and retirees bear the burden of managing their pension plans and the associated risks. To protect Americans against the financial risks they face in retirement and ensure greater economic security in old age, targeted financial education, research, and fundamental pension policy reform are required.

In this article three important policy questions are suggested in light of signs of recent growth of nonprofit news and the possibility of a great deal more similar growth in the future: 1) Does nonprofit news production pose a plausible solution to the economic troubles of the U.S. news industry? 2) Would industrial subsidies of nonprofits, like those for “welfare state” health and human services co-production offer a potential solution to the economic problems of the U.S. news industry? 3) Can the currently evolving internet-based system of news production by volunteer citizens be sustainable in the long run?

In September 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau released a 2010 special report, The Emergency and Transitional Shelter Population: 2010 (ESTP:2010). The ETSP:2010 provides information on the numbers, demographic characteristics and geographic distribution of persons at emergency and transitional shelters. Shelters are defined as places where people who are experiencing homelessness stay overnight.

A basic theoretical challenge for third sector scholars today is to speak in general and consistent terms about the institutional and normative orders forming outside households, markets and governments in numerous countries, regions and urban centers everywhere. The third sectors of the world have formed in light of a range of distinctive local conditions, including history, culture, law and other factors. A growing international group of scholars has produced a convincing, although limited and partial model of the third sector based in the linked concepts of nonprofit organization, nonprofit sector and non-distribution constraints. The U.S. Census Bureau recently released 2010 estimates of health insurance coverage for each of the nation’s roughly 3,140 counties.

Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE; http://www.census.gov/did/www/sahie/index.html) are the only source for single-year estimates of health insurance coverage status for every county in the nation. These estimates are available by sex, age groups, race and Hispanic origin (for states only), and income-to-poverty ratios.

This final report documents the major findings of the evaluation of the Methamphetamine and Suicide Prevention Initiative (MSPI Years 1-3), also referred to locally as the Soaring Over Methamphetamine and Suicide Program (SOMS), funded by the Indian Health Service (IHS), Division of Behavioral Health. The University of Nebraska at Omaha, Consortium for Organizational Research and Evaluation (CORE) recently contracted with the Nebraska Urban Indian Health Coalition (NUIHC) to provide technical assistance in completing this evaluation and the report.

The natural phenomena of people being born and people passing away occur every day. Demographers call the difference between the number of births and the number of deaths “natural change”. Natural change and the net movement of persons to/from an area are factors that lead its population to change. While our office has analyzed these population change components in total, we can now break them into sub-groups such as by race/ethnicity.
