Amateur bakers and other viewers would ask her why the so-called easy recipes from channels like So Yummy didn’t work for them. As a service. she would demonstrate the so-called “shortcuts,” explain why they didn’t work, and then show how to execute a similar recipe the right way. Following the framework of critical librarianship and acknowledging our positionality as predominately white departments, George Mason University Libraries’ Metadata Services (MS) and Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) have been engaging in a variety of projects of reparative resource description. This article focuses on the myriad ways the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a regional academic library consortium, has responded to the growing and longstanding need to address equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in library spaces and organizations. Specifically, the article highlights a range of initiatives and approaches to advance EDI that the Alliance believes are in the mutual best interest of Alliance staff, its leadership (Board of Directors and Council), collaborative workforce (Teams and Groups), and ultimately, Alliance member libraries and the users they support.

The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) has a long-standing partnership with the county’s human rights education and enforcement agency, the Office of Human Rights (PGCOHR), formerly the Prince George’s County Human Relations Commission (PGCHRC). The two agencies serve over 967,000 Prince Georgians, a majority-Black (64.4%) and Latin or Hispanic (19.5%) population with a sizable immigrant community (22.7%). The civil rights issues of 2020 hit close to home in Prince George’s County and the agencies have sustained a multi-year effort to provide residents with opportunities to learn how to engage with social justice topics for personal and collective advancement. …

In 2016 the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Libraries opened the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons in the main library (Love Library) with the intention of creating an informal user space for study and social interactions. Within the Learning Commons, a popular science collection was curated based upon patron interest and to organize a scattered collection into a more discoverable location. The collection has been highly used by patrons, and new content is regularly added each year.

Research suggests that virtual experiences in the classroom have myriad positive outcomes for students. For example, studies have shown that learning through experience can boost knowledge retention by up to 75% as well as improve student success, increasing performance on exams by as much as 20%. This presentation shows how the Data Visualization Lab has been used in classes at Bryant and suggest additional ways in which faculty and staff might benefit from incorporating virtual experiences into their pedagogical repertoires.

The population of the study consists of 160 LIS students in the year three. Total enumeration was used for the study in which 84 students returned in the questionnaire which represented 52%. Infographics are an effective means to communicate with audiences, draw attention, and make concepts digestible in a quick and straightforward way. This study explores students’ opinions on infographics used in library instruction, and provides quantitative data to help librarians determine whether these tools will help students engage with text and retain key concepts. Based on research conducted with undergraduate music students at two universities, DePauw University and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, this paper examines how students understand and interact with content embedded in infographics, and measures retention of information presented in either plain-text or infographic form.
