Photo archives are valuable sources of information with historical and cultural significance and, therefore, need to be preserved. However, the fragile and vulnerable physical condition of photo archives and the limited adequate storage facilities pose particular challenges for regional archival institutions like the Library and Archives Service of Bantul Regency (DISPUSIP Bantul). To address this issue, DISPUSIP Bantul has undertaken efforts to digitize photo archives to preserve the information they contain. Library Disaster Preparedness In Southeast Asia: A Systematic Review, Azraai Abidin, Mohd Najib Abdullah, Noor Faezah Shaari, Nur Shurbaniah Saad

ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement

This systematic review, which follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, examines the current state of disaster preparedness in libraries across Southeast Asia. It evaluates existing research using four core emergency preparedness rule elements: risk assessment and planning, the communication plan, policies and procedures, and training and testing. While an initial search identified 488 potential studies, only seven met the strict criteria; these seven studies were from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This indicates either a significant gap in library readiness or a lack of comprehensive research on the subject. The results show that most …

Digital collections provide an information space capable for complex data analysis and visualizations. A metadata strategy with robust description can reach beyond providing access to a collection and inspire new contextual narratives and knowledge. Using the Illinois State Normal University (ISNU) World War I Service Records digital collection as a case study, the authors explored the collections as data model in this significant World War I archival collection to highlight lesser-known stories, including those of the Pioneer Infantry, women, and noncombatants. On January 17, 2024, The City University of New York (CUNY) library system and the State University of New York (SUNY) library system went live with Alma Peer to Peer Resource Sharing partnership. This partnership significantly expanded CUNY and SUNY patrons’ ability to access materials easily and efficiently through their Onesearch interface, enabling them to browse through and request physical items from both library systems. This article provides an introduction for library leaders at all levels to support equitable conditions for joy in the workplace, as well as for anyone who wants to develop their personal practice of joy through lessons discovered in popular, academic, and professional writing and multimedia. Joy has a place in contemporary libraries’ conversations about burnout, vocational awe, and care. In this presentation, I discuss using OCLC's IFMs (Interlibrary Loan Fee Management) to pay invoices for lost and damaged items borrowed via interlibrary loan. After starting with a discussion of the benefits and challenges of this method, I will share examples showing the process and how to check results. Using IFMs to pay invoices can help alleviate the time and transactional burdens of making such payments for interlibrary loan departments.

This paper presents the development of a novel orchestration tool that predicts collaborative problem-solving (CPS) behaviors of undergraduate engineering groups and investigates the use of that tool by instructors. We explore the impact of receiving real-time, machine-learning, model-based prompts on 1) instructors' orchestration strategies, which are strategies instructors use to manage and facilitate collaborative activities, and 2) groups' participation, including how groups are engaged in CPS activities. The orchestration tool is a dashboard that notifies instructors of–and advises them on–monitoring and intervening with groups who may need collaborative support and guidance.
