Recent fears of data capitalism and colonialism often argue using implicit assumptions about cybernetic technology’s ability to automate data about culture. As such, the level of data granularity made possible by cybernetic engineering can be used to dominate society and culture. Here we unpack these implicit assumptions about the datafication of culture through memes, which both act as cultural data and cultural memory. Using Alexander Galloway’s critical method of protocological analysis and descriptions of media tactics, we respond to fears of cybernetic domination. Preprint articles are available on servers, such as arXiv and ChemRxiv, at no-cost to benefit the movement toward open access of research. However, the use of preprint research articles as a reference source in academia is not heavily documented. To examine if researchers are utilizing preprint articles, this paper examines citation trends in the dissertations of chemistry and physics PhD candidates who studied at four University Centers in the State University Of New York system (SUNY). Using citation analysis methodology, references cited in PhD dissertations published between 2018–2021 were analyzed. Key findings showed that PhD candidate authors cited preprint articles …

This article describes the variety of volunteers received at Brown Library of Abilene Christian University and the tasks that they perform. In business schools, the case study is a commonly used instructional tool. It give students the opportunity to employ critical thinking and problem-solving skills within a safe, realistic scenario and can be considered experiential learning. A librarian at a mid-sized R2 public institution transitioned the case study model from synchronous instruction into two asynchronous online tutorials. The case studies have evolved over the years to: incorporate online instructional best practices, increase engagement, focus on sustainability topics, and follow a common industry theme. Qualitative feedback from respondents was positive and provided insights on how to build an effective and relatable scenario.
