Open Educational Resource (Oer) Adoption In Higher Education: Examining Institutional Perspectives, Rebekah E. Wright Edd, Jaime M. Goldman, Jennifer L. Reeves Phd

This presentation focuses on institutional stakeholders’ perspectives of OER adoption and integration at a state college in east Florida. This session will provide recommendations for an institutional adoption of OERs at Nova Southeastern University and demonstrate how NSU’s librarians and library resources can be leveraged to ensure a successful OER implementation. This session will also discuss the ways in which librarian advocacy helps in the OER adoption process and how building relationships with librarians may help drive a wide-scale OER implementation.

A Question Of Space: Surveying Student Usage Of Lgbtq Resources In The Lgbtq Student Center Library And The Campus Library, Anne Hays

Publications and Research

This article explores how self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) students use the library located within a culture center on campus serving LGBTQ students, compared to the ways those students use the main campus library. In particular, this study asks how LGBTQ students’ needs of library collections may differ based on where those collections are located. While much has been written about pluralism, diversity, and multiculturalism in the library, there have been strikingly few studies by librarians attempting to work with minority student cultural centers on campus. Information literacy became formally shaped by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in the late 1990s with the creation of the Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education. James Madison University adopted the Standards as learning outcomes into its general education program at that time. We continue to evolve our program to forge foundational skills for all entering students, and are in the process of moving towards the new ACRL Framework.

In this capstone presentation, visiting Chinese doctoral student Zhihui Zhang explains how she came to study at the University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center; the archival projects she worked on, the individual people she met with, and the cultural heritage organization tours she went on; the differences and similarities between American and Chinese archival theory and practice; and how this experience will inform her Ph.D. program and her dissertation.

The function of the library is to collect, preserve, and provide access to recorded human communication. “Documentality” is an umbrella term that embraces the complexity and scope of this enterprise. By definition, the artifacts of recorded human communication are technology dependent, language dependent, and socially constructed. These factors impact and constrain the message contained in the recordings. This poster highlights a few of the challenges and introduces a number of specializations that provide ways to overcome the difficulties. An application to the Dialogue between Science and Theology about Creation is discussed.

BACKGROUND: Vast volumes of data, coded through hierarchical terminologies (e.g., International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision-Clinical Modification [ICD10-CM], Medical Subject Headings [MeSH]), are generated routinely in electronic health record systems and medical literature databases. Although graphic representations can help to augment human understanding of such data sets, a graph with hundreds or thousands of nodes challenges human comprehension.
