This study investigated whether students who scored high in Perfectionistic Concerns (i.e., unhealthy perfectionists) would have higher Imposter Phenomenon and stress scores, as well as lower self-efficacy, belonging, and social acceptance scores. Additionally, the study sought to clarify how the two dimensions of perfectionism, Concerns and Strivings, are associated with the Imposter Phenomenon. The sample consisted of 48 female undergraduate students at a university in London, Ontario. A Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between Perfectionistic Concerns and the Imposter Phenomenon. Research has demonstrated broad individual differences in the ability to form a cognitive map of a novel environment. The current study investigated whether individual differences in cognitive map accuracy are driven by differences in cognitive flexibility specifically, the ability to switch between tasks. Using the Silcton virtual environment, participants explored four routes in Silcton and were assessed on cognitive map accuracy using the Silcton onsite pointing task and the Silcton model building task. This study investigated the effects of spirituality and religiosity on subjective well-being. Religiosity was measured as intrinsic and extrinsic orientations using the Revised Religious Life Inventory (RLI-R) and spirituality was measured using the Spiritual Transcendence Scale (STS). Fifty-four participants were recruited from an all-female undergraduate population. Participants completed the RLI-R and STS followed by measures of subjective well-being including life satisfaction, self-esteem, positive and negative affect, and perceived stress. This study investigated the influence of personality, specifically conscientiousness, on organ donation attitudes (ODA), organ donor status and future registration intentions in an exclusively female sample. Forty-four female undergraduate students completed five questionnaires which measured the following variables: The Big Five personality dimensions, religiousness, organ donation knowledge, organ donation attitudes, altruism, social desirability, self-reported donor status, and intent to register as an organ donor. The results found no significant effect of personality on donor status or intent. However, ODA and religiousness significantly influence donor status and intent in female university students. Individual differences in the ability to build a mental cognitive map of an unfamiliar environment have been studied using both real-world environments (e.g., Ishikawa & Montello, 2006) and virtual environments (VEs) such as Silcton (Weisberg et al., 2014). The current study investigated whether the accuracy of a person’s cognitive map of their real-world, familiar environment was associated with the cognitive map they formed of an unfamiliar virtual environment in the lab. This study investigated how individuals’ mood influences changes in spoken language during dyadic social interaction. Twenty-eight female undergraduate students completed mood assessments, a self-monitoring questionnaire, and viewed a short film clip that induced them into either a positive, negative, or neutral mood. Each dyad engaged in a conversation that was audio-recorded. Participants’ use of affect and positive emotional words was associated with the corresponding usage of their conversational partner, suggesting that speakers mimicked their partners’ language style. Speakers also used higher emotional tone in their first minute of speech after conversing with someone in a positive mood, suggesting participants’ mood …

This study investigated the relationship between perfectionism, resilience, and risk of burnout among university students. The sample consisted of 55 (53 female and two male) Psychology 1000 students from Brescia University College. Self-report questionnaires assessed perfectionism, academic resilience, risk of academic burnout, and perceived stress. Participants were divided into four perfectionism groups: non-perfectionism, pure personal standards perfectionism, pure evaluative concerns perfectionism, and mixed perfectionism. Participants were also divided into a high and low academic resilience group. Offender rehabilitation has more positive outcomes, yet the public prefers the punishment of incarceration. Disparity in the punitivity of sentencing has been related to age and gender of offenders, with adult, male offenders receiving more punitive, less rehabilitative sentences than youth, female offenders. The present study examined patterns of sentencing in an all female sample (N=103). After reading a crime story manipulating offender gender and age, participants were asked to “sentence” the offender. Gender of offender did not cause differences in sentences given, however youth offenders were sentenced significantly less. Cognitive maps are mental representations of the configuration of landmarks from an environment (Tolman, 1948; O’Keefe & Nadel, 1978). Broad individual differences in the accuracy of cognitive maps exist, however, it is not yet clear what underlies these differences (Weisberg et al., 2013). In the current study, participants first completed a spatial perceptive-taking task called the Spatial Orientation Test (SOT; Hegarty & Waller, 2004). This study examines the impact of multitasking on memory. Specifically, how the relatedness of a medium affects learning. The media used for the purposes of the current study were documentaries. The study consisted of 36 students recruited from Brescia University College. Participants completed a set of questionnaires which included their demographics, academic information, computer/internet usage, and their perceived ability to multitask. They then completed a reading comprehension task while the documentary was played in the background. This study examined the relationship between birth order and anxiety regarding the transition from high school to becoming a university student. Participants were categorized based on their biological birth order, psychological birth order, and living location. Participants’ state anxiety, trait anxiety, and self-esteem were measured and analyzed for predictable patterns in birth order and anxiety level. No statistically significant results were observed but results trended towards middle children scoring lowest on anxiety and self-esteem, youngest children scoring highest on anxiety and self-esteem, and firstborn and only children scoring similarly on anxiety but only children having slightly lower self-esteem. Newcomers to social groups may experience victimization depending on their ethnic background. The current study’s goal was to investigate whether ethnic minority newcomers to social groups are victimized more than newcomers who belong to ethnic majority. Eighty-one female participants completed several questionnaires about: ethnic background, victimization incidents, social support, personality traits, self-esteem, social anxiety and life satisfaction. Participants were divided based on whether they were newcomers and whether they belonged to an ethnic minority or ethnic majority. The current study investigated the influence of cultural orientation on self-monitoring. Participants were 40 female undergraduate students from Brescia University College who completed four questionnaires including a demographic questionnaire, Snyder’s (1974) Self-Monitoring scale, the Individualism and Collectivism Scale (Triandis & Gelfland, 1998), and the Self-Consciousness Scale (Scheier, M.F., & Carver, C. S. 2013). It was predicted that cultures that were more collectivist in orientation would score higher on the self-monitoring scale and that public self-conscious would facilitate these results. This study investigated the effects of reading the websites of telephone operated wellness services, compared to reading the websites in addition to a more intensive exposure involving a conversational explanation of the services. Variables of perceived benefits of help-seeking, life satisfaction, and telephone service awareness were all assessed across three testing sessions within approximately seven days. Additionally, mentioning the services to family or friends was assessed at the end of this period. This study investigated whether virtual environments (VE) have ecological validity in studies of cognitive mapping ability. Forty female undergraduate students completed the spatial orientation test (SOT) and other tasks that assessed their cognitive of real-world locations they visit often and a VE, through direction estimation and map accuracy tasks. Participants had lower error scores on real-world direction estimation than VE direction estimation, suggesting that the accuracy of their cognitive maps was associated with familiarity and exposure to an environment. The current study examined the relationship between procrastination styles, coping styles, perceived stress, personality traits, and academic outcomes in a sample of undergraduate students (n = 42). Results suggest that active procrastination is associated with active coping and less perceived stress. In contrast, passive procrastination relates to greater perceived stress. In addition, the results indicate that active procrastination is positively associated with extroversion and conscientiousness. Passive procrastination is positively related to neuroticism. Moreover, procrastination styles are not associated with academic outcomes in the current study. The present study addressed the paradox of the popularity of horror movies. These movies elicit negative emotions of fear and anxiety, yet horror continues to be a one of the most popular film genres. Personal characteristics have been found to influence individual’s reactions to anxiety-inducing stimuli, such as horror movies. 43 participants completed a questionnaire that measured trait anxiety, emotional regulation, empathy, sensation seeking and film preferences. Personal characteristics were compared among groups of participants with high, moderate, and low preferences for horror movies. Spatial activities during childhood and adolescence are believed to play a role in the development of spatial cognitive abilities. The current study investigated the relationship between spatial activities, way-finding strategy preferences, and spatial anxiety in a sample of 89 female undergraduate students from Brescia University College. Participants completed four online questionnaires addressing childhood spatial activities, adolescent spatial activities, spatial anxiety, and way-finding strategy. Hyperpalatable foods are high in sugar and/or fat and highly processed. These foods increase dopamine in the brain similar to other rewards, such as drugs of abuse, producing pleasure and an enhanced drive to consume them. Undergraduate students (n = 44) completed an explicit memory task where they were asked if they recalled various types of food (high sugar, high fat, sugar+fat, fruits, vegetables and breads) and non-food images. Limited research has explored methamphetamine withdrawal causing service providers to develop their own strategies and adapt policies and procedures according to client needs. The current study investigated factors (i.e., confidence, gender, attractiveness) influencing participant’s perceptions of social media postings. 89 female Psychology 1000 Brescia University College students participated in this study. There were 4 levels of confidence captions: low confidence, average confidence, high confidence, and arrogance. Photos, with captions similar to those that are shown on social media, were of males and females of either low attractiveness, average attractiveness, or high attractiveness. It is understood that movements to music aid in beat perception, and neural oscillations have the ability to entrain to musical rhythms.
