Sorption Studies Of Europium On Cerium Phosphate Using Box-Behnken Design, Süleyman İnan
Sorption Studies Of Europium On Cerium Phosphate Using Box-Behnken Design, Süleyman İnan
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Amorphous cerium phosphate was prepared and characterized. Three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD) was employed to analyze the effect of process variables such as initial pH (2-6), contact time (60--180 min), and sorbent amount (0.05-0.15 g) on the sorption capacity of europium. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the main effect of initial pH and sorbent amount has a substantial impact on the sorption of Eu(III). Probability F-value (F = 3 $\times $ 10$^{-3})$ and correlation coefficient (R$^{2}$ = 0.97) point out that the model is in good accordance with experimental data. The maximum sorption capacity of Eu(III) was found to be …

Photochromic And Fluorescence Properties Of Coumarin Fulgimides, Khamis Nassor Ally, Leyla Öztürk, Mahmut Köse
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Four new fulgimides possessing a fluorescent coumarin unit were synthesized from the corresponding fulgides, and their photochromic as well as fluorescence properties were investigated. The open-ring forms of coumarin fulgimides were found to exhibit fluorescence in the visible region. Upon exposure to UV light, the fulgimides were transformed into the nonfluorescent closed-ring forms, which can be reverted to the initial fluorescent open-ring forms on exposure to visible light. The efficiency of quenching of fluorescence was as high as 95% at the photostationary state of UV irradiation.

Stabilization Dynamics Of The Ozone Molecular System, Sangeeta Sur
Stabilization Dynamics Of The Ozone Molecular System, Sangeeta Sur
Doctoral Dissertations
"The observation of larger-than-expected concentrations of heavier isotopologues of ozone known as 'ozone isotopic anomaly' in the stratosphere is a mass-independent effect (in contrast to most kinetic isotope effects familiar to chemists) that is traced back to the recombination process in the formation of ozone in the Chapman cycle. Understanding the relative efficiencies (often approximated as equal for different isotopologues) of the stabilization step (some of the details of which are still a mystery) which involves energy transfer from a highly excited ozone molecule to a third body, M (argon atom in this case) to form stable ozone is a …
Synthesis And Thermodynamic Characterization Of Free And Surface Water Of Colloidal Unimolecular Polymer (Cup) Particles Utilizing Dsc And Tga, Peng Geng
Doctoral Dissertations
“Colloidal Unimolecular Polymer (CUP) is spheroidal nanoscale polymer particle (3-9 nm) with charged hydrophilic gruops on the surface and a hydrophobic core. The formation of CUPs involves a simple free radical polymerization and a water reduction process. CUPs are thermodynamically stable in water, molecular weight, particle size and charge density can be designed and controlled. CUPs have a layer of surface associated water, due to the small particle size, the surface water/CUP volume ratio is ultra-high. Therefore, CUP is a very promising candidate to investigate the thermodynamic of surface water characteristics. In addition, CUP solution is free of surfactant and …

Vanadium oxides, as highly efficiently catalysts, are widely applied in various catalytic reactions, such as the dehydrogenation of light alkanes and epoxidation of alkenes. In this paper, a series of VO$_{x}$ /Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ catalysts were fabricated by the 1-pot method for catalytic propane dehydrogenation. The results indicated that the VO$_{x}$ /Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ catalysts with loading of 10 wt.% vanadium exhibited optimized catalytic performance. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by N$_{2}$ adsorption-desorption, XRD, TEM, H$_{2}$ -TPR, and XPS to explore the texture properties, morphology, and electronic environment of vanadium. In addition, several vanadium catalysts were also prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation (IWI) …

In the present study copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method with ranolazine as a shape-directing agent. Ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs were characterized by various analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The SEM pattern confirmed the morphology of ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs with well-defined rice-like structures. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the interaction between CuO NPs and ranolazine. The XRD analysis indicated that the structure of ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs was monoclinic crystalline and the size ranged between 9 and 18 nm with an average particle size of 12 nm. …

Dimethylamine borane (DMAB) is a promising fuel alternative for fuel cell applications. In this work cyclic voltammetric behavior of DMAB was investigated on the polymerized aminophenol film decorated with Ag nanoparticles in alkaline media. The polymer film was formed on the glassy carbon electrode by electrochemical technique and then, the surface was modified with Ag nanoparticles. The surface of the modified electrode was identified by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. The developed electrode has displayed high electrocatalytic activity for DMAB oxidation in alkaline media depending on the supporting electrolyte concentration. Experimental …

Two organic fluorophores, fluorescein (F) and rhodamine B (Rd), were entrapped in calcium phosphate nanoparticles. The as-obtained nanoparticles can be used for biological release applications. For this aim, calcium phosphate nanoparticles were synthesized using the precipitation method. Structural analysis of these nanoparticles was performed using XRD, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy, confirming that the synthesized nanoparticles were hydroxyapatite. TEM and SEM analyses demonstrated that these nanoparticles had a size of 20 nm and a well-defined morphology. F and Rd (about 0.5 wt.%) were entrapped in these nanoparticles and their release, as a function of time, was studied via UV-Vis spectroscopy. The …

This paper aimed at implementing a treatment system for polluted water with textile dyes, starting with a photocatalytic decomposition process using sunlight as a source of energy and continuing with a bacterial biodegradation process, in order to reach degradation percentages higher than those obtained using only one of the processes mentioned above. When water treatment with the dye in the combined system was over, an acute ecotoxicity test was performed to make sure that toxic metabolites were not produced due to biodegradation. Solophenyl Blue azoic dye, and Erionyl Blue and Terasil Blue anthraquinone dye-colored solutions were treated with the Pd/Al$_{80}$ …

Cancer is one of the main global health problems. In order to develop novel antitumor agents, we synthesized 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-one (DHPM) and 2,6-diaryl-substituted pyridine derivatives as potential antitumor structures and evaluated their cytotoxic effects against several cancer cell lines. An easy and convenient method is reported for the synthesis of these derivatives, employing cobalt ferrite (CoFe$_{2}$ O$_{4}$ @SiO$_{2}$ -SO$_{3}$ H) magnetic nanoparticles under microwave irradiation and solvent-free conditions. The structural characteristics of the prepared nanocatalyst were investigated by FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TGA techniques. In vitro cytotoxic effects of the synthesized products were assessed against the human breast adenocarcinoma cell line …

Zinc borate is a boron-containing chemical material that is used to increase the flame retardancy of polymeric materials, dyes, cables, fabrics, carpets, and the internal parts of automobiles and planes. Commercially used zinc borate, which has the formula of 2ZnO· 3B$_{2}$ O$_{3}$· 7H$_{2}$ O, has a particle size between 10 and 20 μm. However, recent studies have shown that nanosized flame retardants have more superior flame retardancy and less negative effects on mechanical properties than microsized flame retardants. Nanosized flame retardants disperse more homogeneously and even low quantities are sufficient to provide high flame resistance. In this study, nano zinc …
