Synthesis And Antioxidant Activities Of New Nickel(Ii) Complexes Derived From 4-Benzy¬Loxysalicylidene-S-Methyl/Propyl Thiosemicarbazones, Songül Eğlence Bakir

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Six nickel(II) complexes of the N2O2 chelating thiosemicarbazones were synthesized using N1-4-benzyloxysalicylidene-S-methyl/propyl thiosemicarbazone and methoxy-substitute-salicylaldehydes in the presence of Ni(II) ion by template reaction. The structures of thiosemicarbazones and nickel(II) complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Vis, IR, and 1H-NMR spec¬troscopies. The structure of the N1-4-benzyloxysalicylidene-S-propyl thiosemicarbazone (2) was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction method. The total antioxidant capacities of synthesized compounds were evaluated by using cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) method. The thiosemicarbazones exhibited more potent antioxidant capacity than Ni(II) complexes. Trolox equiv¬alent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) of 1c was found highest in tested nickel(II) complexes. In addition, antioxidant activities …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A new technique for sensing Ga(III) concentration based on polyvinyl alcohol-citrate capped gold nanoparticle-p-aminohippuric acid hybrid (or three-layer core-shell configurations) has been demonstrated. The p-aminohippuric acid capped citrate-gold nanoparticles were comfortably agglomerated in the presence of Ga(III), and the color of the reaction quickly turned from red to violet or blue. Under the detection conditions, a good linear relationship was ideally obtained between the ratio of the absorbance intensity at 620 nm to that at 520 nm (A620/A520). The linear response range, the detection, and quantification limit was 34.9-418.3 μg/L and 7.6 μg/L, and 25 μg/L, respectively. To reflect the …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Tuning the selective sorption features of microporous organic networks is of great importance for subsequent applications in gas uptake and hiding, while it is more attractive in terms of being both time and cost effective to realize these optimizations without using functional groups in the core and linker. "Knitting" is one of the easiest and most used method to obtain a broad scope of hyper-crosslinked polymers on a large scale from aromatic structures that do not contain functional groups for polymerization. By the use of Knitting method, a hypercrosslinked covalent ultramicroporous organic polymer was obtained via stepwise process from using …

Enhanced Electrochemical And Light-Driven Co2 Reduction By Incoporating Pendant Functionality In The Second-Coordination Sphere Of Molecular Catalysts, Sayontani Sinha Roy

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

With the increase in global population and rapid industrialization, a gigantic amount of greenhouse gases is being released into the atmosphere each year. The catastrophic effect of these accumulated greenhouse gases is driving global climate change and adversely impacting our ecosystem. Popularizing the traditional renewable energy sources (such as solar and wind energy) can mitigate the problem by cutting down anthropogenic CO2 emissions, which is the major contributor to this global problem. However, the intermittent nature of these energy sources is problematic to reliably power society throughout the year. Therefore, converting CO2 to various value-added chemicals with the aid of …

Determination Of Volatile Compounds In Yellow Curry Paste Using From-Two-To-One Dimensional Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Natsuda Singtothog

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In this work, an approach to allow improved analysis with one-dimensional GC-MS (1D GC-MS) was established and demonstrated for analysis of a pool of yellow curry paste samples. The approach involved initial application of comprehensive heart cut two-dimensional GC-MS (CH/C 2D GC-MS) to obtain a full volatile profile by comparing the experimental mass spectrum and retention index of each compound with the mass spectra and retention indices of standard compounds from a database. The obtained volatile profile was then used to generate a selected ion monitoring (SIM) method, which was then applied with 1D GC-MS using a SIM mode. This …

Functionalization Of Novel Pp5 Inhibitors, Hope P. Hill Jan 2021

Functionalization Of Novel Pp5 Inhibitors, Hope P. Hill

Honors Theses

The overexpression of protein phosphatase 5 has been correlated to tumor cell reproduction making it a candidate for small molecule drug therapy. Selective and potent inhibition of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) enzyme has been previously achieved through the development of the molecule fostriecin with key functionality being a lactone and unsaturated linear chain. The large synthetic overhead of fostriecin has led to exploration of other small molecule inhibitors that could mirror fostriecin’s interaction with the active site in the catalytic domain of PP5. The naturally occurring inhibitor, cantharidin, is functionalized with an epoxy containing eleven carbon chain to optimize binding …

Design, Synthesis And Applications Of Nanoparticles In Suppression Of Mosquito-Born Flaviviridae Viruses, Maria R. Blahove

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Recently, nanoparticles have become an origin of exploration in the chemistry field due to their unique medical uses. The current drug delivery models of nanoparticles often include a metal base with a drug conjugated to its surface. However this raises concerns regarding toxicity. A novel approach to solving this dilemma is the development of nanosized biocompatible polymer-based micelles, created from PEG-PCL-PEG triblock polymer, and formed around a drug of choice. The goal is to create a drug carrier nanoparticle system that is labile at a specific intracellular pH, without undue toxicity to the cell. This creates a drug-loaded nanoparticle that …

Does California’S Emfac2017 Vehicle Emissions Model Under-Predict California Light-Duty Gasoline Vehicle Nox Emissions?, Gary A. Bishop

Fuel Efficiency Automobile Test Publications

On-road remote sensing measurements of light and medium-duty gasoline vehicles collected within California’s South Coast Air Basin since 1999 generally fall within the range of observed summer ambient molar NOx/CO measurements collected during morning rush hours. Compared with ambient and on-road emissions, the California Air Resources Board EMFAC model under predicts 2018 gasoline vehicle NOx emission factors by more than a factor of 2.6. Contributing to these differences is that vehicles older than model year 2006 have NOx emission deterioration rates that are up to 4 time’s higher on-road than predicted by the EMFAC model. A …

Quercetin Enhances Vitamin D2 Stability And Mitigate The Degradation Influenced By Elevated Temperature And Ph Value, Sukkum Ngullie Chang, Jeong Jun Lee, Hyun Jin Kim, Sun Chul Kang

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Vitamin D2 (vit. D2) is a nutraceutical essentially needed for good health. However, it is susceptible to oxygen and high temperature. The use of natural products such as bioflavonoids possessing anti-degradative effect of vit. D2 degradation has not been described before. A combinational effect of vit. D2 with quercetin showed a positive effect and inhibited vit. D2 degradation when exposed to high temperature (50 oC and 75 oC) at different time points. The results obtained revealed vit. D2 degradation was drastically increased with longer incubation under thermal treatment. However, quercetin and vit. D2 groups were able to significantly inhibit the …

Analysis Of Sexual Lubricants As A Form Of Trace Evidence For Sexual Assault Cases, Brooke Baumgarten Jan 2021

Analysis Of Sexual Lubricants As A Form Of Trace Evidence For Sexual Assault Cases, Brooke Baumgarten

Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023

A major gap in sexual assault casework is demonstrated when DNA is not recovered. Oftentimes, if DNA evidence is not present on the collection swabs, the sexual assault kit (SAK) is not further analyzed. Due to the "CSI effect," DNA is commonly understood as highly identifiable evidence, potentially leading to increased condom usage to eliminate or reduce DNA transfer during a sexual assault. Therefore, the analysis of condoms and sexual lubricants is pertinent. The purpose of this research is to develop analytical protocols to potentially connect unknown substances recovered in a SAK to known lubricant reference samples. Sexual lubricants were …

Desulfurization Of Thiourea Into Guanidines And Benzoxazoles Using Electrochemical Oxidation Processes, Thao Huynh Nguyen Thanh

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

2-Aminobenzoxazoles and guanidines are important building block for therapeutic agents. The general synthetic strategies of 2-aminobenzoxazoles and guanidines from thioureas rely on the use of excess or stoichiometric amount of oxidizing agents, multiple-step route, and harsh reaction conditions. Hence, in this research, the synthesis of 2-aminobenzoxazole and guanidines will be developed under mild electrochemical oxidation processes using sodium iodide. Based on optimization study, we were able to synthesize 29 examples of 2-aminobenzoxazoles in good to high yields from 2-aminophenols and isothiocyanates in one pot under electro-cyclization using NaI/NaCl in catalytic amount. Moreover, 20 examples of guanidines were prepared in good …

Nanomaterials have attracted significant attention in the last decade, with applications in everyday products. Amongst all known nanomaterials in use, silver is the leading metal, present in 531 different types of products, owing to their unique optical, electrical, antimicrobial, and thermal properties. Though silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) come in contact regularly with the general population, there is little known about their toxicity mechanism due to limited techniques for thorough analysis. CytoViva Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) shows potential for filling these gaps. In this study, borohydride-capped AgNPs with an approximate diameter of 10 nm were synthesized using the modified Creighton method and characterized …

Prostate apoptosis response-4 (Par-4) is a proapoptotic tumor suppressor protein that has been linked to a large number of cancers. This 38 kilodalton (kDa) protein has been shown to be predominantly intrinsically disordered in vitro. In vivo, Par-4 is cleaved by caspase-3 at Asp-131 to generate the 25 kDa functionally active cleaved Par-4 protein (cl-Par-4) that inhibits NF-κB-mediated cell survival pathways and causes selective apoptosis in tumor cells. Here, we have employed circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS) to assess the effects of various monovalent and divalent salts upon the conformation of cl-Par-4 in vitro. We have …
