Statistical Significant Differences Between Aroma Profiles Of Beer Brewed From Sorghum, Drew Budner, Joseph Carr, Brett Serafini, Samantha Tucker, Elisabeth Dieckman‐Meyer, Lindsey Bell, Katherine A. Thompson‐Witrick
Chemistry
There is currently an increased demand for foodstuffs that are classified as gluten‐free including beer. Beer produced using gluten‐free grains has a distinct flavor profile that differs greatly from that of beer produced from gluten‐containing grains. The chemical difference between beers made from these two different grain sources has been explored and some key differences have been identified. Here malt sources containing gluten (barley) and malt without gluten (sorghum) were used to determine which compounds are statistically different based upon their concentrations. A total of 14 (7 barley and 7 sorghum) small‐batch beers were made from malt extract. The aroma …
Theoretical Investigation On The Addition Reaction Of The Germylenoid H2gelicl With Acetone, Xiaolin Zhang, Bingfei Yan, Wenzuo Li
Theoretical Investigation On The Addition Reaction Of The Germylenoid H2gelicl With Acetone, Xiaolin Zhang, Bingfei Yan, Wenzuo Li
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this work, theoretical calculations were performed on the addition reaction of the germylenoid H2GeLiCl with acetone. The DFT M06-2X method was used to optimize the geometries of the whole stationary points on the potential energy surfaces and the QCISD method to calculate the single-point energy. The results reveal that the addition reaction of H2GeLiCl with acetone firstly generates an oxagermacyclopropane c-H2GeOC(CH3)2 and then c-H2GeOC(CH3)2 further reacts with acetone along two possible pathways, pathway I and pathway II, in which the 2,4-dioxagermolane is formed at the end of pathway I and 2,5-dioxagermolane is formed at the end of pathway II, …

Structural Rearrangement Of Neisseria Meningitidis Transferrin Binding Protein A (Tbpa) Prior To Human Transferrin Protein (Htf) Binding, Gi̇zem Nur Duran, Mehmet Özbi̇l
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Gram-negative bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, responsible for human infectious disease meningitis, acquires the iron (Fe3+) ion needed for its survival from human transferrin protein (hTf). For this transport, transferrin binding proteins TbpA and TbpB are facilitated by the bacterium. The transfer cannot occur without TbpA, while the absence of TbpB only slows down the transfer. Thus, understanding the TbpA-hTf binding at the atomic level is crucial for the fight against bacterial meningitis infections. In this study, atomistic level of mechanism for TbpA-hTf binding is elucidated through 100 ns long all-atom classical MD simulations on free (uncomplexed) TbpA. TbpA protein underwent conformational …

Sn(Ii)/Pn@Ac Catalysts: Synthesis, Physical-Chemical Characterization, And Applications, Yibo Wu, Fuxiang Li, Qingbin Li, Yongjun Han, Li Wang, Wei Ma, Fu Xv
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this study, the novel tin-based catalysts (Sn(II)/PN@AC) were prepared using the phosphorus and nitrogen dual-modified activated carbon as support and SnCl2 as active compounds, as well as then evaluated in acetylene hydrochlorination. Under the reaction temperature of 180 °C and an acetylene gas hourly space velocity (GHSV-C2H2) of 30 h?1, the 15%Sn(II)/PN@AC-550 showed the initial acetylene conversion of 100% and vinyl chloride selectivity over 98.5%. Additionally, the deactivation rate of 15%Sn(II)/PN@AC-550 reached 0.47% h-1, which was lower than that of 15%Sn(II)/AC-550 (1.02% h-1), suggesting that PN@AC-550 as novel support can retarded the deactivation of Sn(II)/AC-550 catalysts during acetylene hydrochlorination. …

Investigation Of Pzt-5h And Pzt-8 Type Piezoelectric Effect On Cycling Stability On Si-Mwcnt Containing Anode Materials, Mehbare Doğrusöz, Muhammed Taha Demi̇rkan, Rezan Demi̇r Çakan
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Silicon (Si) containing materials cannot be used in commercial lithium ion batteries due to the mechanical stress problem triggered by volume expansion during cycling. The high-volume change causes mechanical instability of Si anode materials during charging/discharging, resulting fast capacity fading. It is thought that piezoelectric materials can be a solution for the volume expansion problem because of their ability to generate electric field when pressure is applied on them. For this purpose, PZT-8 and PZT-5H type piezoelectric materials were mixed with silicon and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) to obtain anode composites and tested electrochemically versus lithium metal. The piezoelectiric effect …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The mechanism as well the stereochemistry of cascade cycloisomerization of 15-membered triazatriacetylenic macrocycle was investigated theoretically by using M062X/6-31+G(d,p) and M062X/LANL2DZ calculations. The results showed that the mechanism and outcome of the reaction depended on the absence and presence of a transition metal catalyst. So that, in thermal-induced condition, the reaction had to experience several suprafacial concerted reactions including Ene-reaction (ΔG#=35.38 kcal/mol), Diels-Alder cycloaddition (ΔG# = 17.16 kcal/mol), and sigmatropic H-shift rearrangement (ΔG# = 56.21 kcal/mol) to produce diastereoselective fused cis-tetracyclic aromatic bearing a pyrrole moiety by following kinetic considerations. Also, the [2+2+2] cycloaddition mechanism was neglected in thermal?induced conditions …

Hydrophilic nano MnO is shown to have significant stability in aqueous media for oxidation of styrene. Different catalysts have been used to synthesis styrene oxide, but MnO-CaL is considered the efficient and selective catalyst to produce styrene oxide. In general, this paper reported especial strategy for synthesis of novel nano MnO that stabilized with oleic acid in chloroform and changing nature of its stabilizer by exchanging oleic acid with lignosulfunate and displays its catalytic activity towards selective oxidation of styrene. The catalyst has shown good selectivity in oxidation of styrene by changing temperature. Finding the optimal conditions for reaction and …

Porous magnetite (Fe3O4) and hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were prepared via the sol-gel auto-combustion method. The gels were prepared by reacting ferric nitrates (as oxidants) with starch (as fuel) at an elevated temperature of 200 °C. Different ratios (Φ) of ferric nitrates to starch were used for the synthesis (Φ = fuel/oxidant). The synthesized iron oxides were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis techniques. The crystal structure, morphology, and specific surface area of the iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 …

The molecular structure of bis(2-isobutyrylamidophenyl)amine (H3LNNN) has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The crystal packing of H3LNNN is governed by the N-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen-bonding and C-H...π stacking interactions between the vicinal molecules. The intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure of H3LNNN have been also examined via Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint plots. The Hirshfeld surface analysis showed that the important role of N-H...O and C-H...π interactions in the solid-state structure of H3LNNN. The molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, and infrared intensities of H3LNNN were computed by ab initio HF and DFT (B3LYP, B3PW91, and BLYP) methods using the …
