Implementation Of A Suicide Prevention Program In A Rural School, Mackenzie Wieser

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Practice Innovation Projects

Introduction: Suicide is a leading cause of death among today's youth. One in six youth have seriously considered attempting suicide, and one in 13 have attempted suicide at least once. Timely identification of those at risk and connection with appropriate help are critical. Elementary, middle, and high school teachers are ideally positioned to act as gatekeepers through early recognition of students in psychological distress and timely response and referral when appropriate.
Evidence Summary: Teachers report a sense of responsibility for providing indirect mental health services to youth but have a lack of sufficient training and preparedness. Kognito online simulations have …

Effect Of Telemonitoring And As Needed Patient Support On Pap Adherence, Saoirse Owens Jan 2023

Effect Of Telemonitoring And As Needed Patient Support On Pap Adherence, Saoirse Owens

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an increasingly recognized condition affecting patient health and public welfare. While positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy has remained the preferred treatment for OSA since 1981, PAP therapy adherence rates have also remained stubbornly suboptimal. Measures for improving PAP therapy adherence have been under constant study, and current literature demonstrates telemonitoring interventions to be promising. Furthermore, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) suggests that telemonitoring interventions be integrated into standard practice to support patients as they initiate and acclimate to PAP therapy. This quality improvement project examined the effect of interval PAP data telemonitoring and …

Unveiling Similarities And Differences Between Cutaneous And Ocular Melanomas, Abdallah Badou, Nour El Imane Issam Salah, Mohamed Elbelhadji

Health Sciences

Melanomas are outstandingly aggressive cancers, still their incidence is increasing. They can occur in the skin as cutaneous melanoma or in the eye as ocular melanoma. Their pathogenesis is generally similar; however, the prognosis of ocular melanoma patients is still poor, due to its special genetic profile and tumor microenvironment. Here we review the similarities and differences between cutaneous and ocular melanoma, with a focus on their prognostic significance, their molecular signature, and their tumor microenvironment, in order to understand the strategies adopted to escape immune response. Gathering and understanding available knowledge of melanomas and their specificities may help to …

Background: Children in the US spend an average of 7.5 hours a day in front of a screen, well above the recommended 2 hours per day for entertainment. Screen time of greater than 3 hours per day is associated with higher body mass indices and insulin resistance that can lead to type 2 diabetes. Providers should review and reinforce age-appropriate screen time guidelines at well-child visits. Screen time education and behavior contracts can be used to facilitate age-appropriate screen time.

Project Goals:

  1. To implement screen time education and behavior contracts in a pediatric population in a federally qualified health center …

Journal of Nursing Research, Innovation, and Health

Repeated Measured ANOVA

Application Of A Secondary Opioid Risk Tool In The Management Of Patients On Opioids In The Adult Pain Management Clinic: A Quality Improvement Project, Monica Kastanaras Jan 2023

Application Of A Secondary Opioid Risk Tool In The Management Of Patients On Opioids In The Adult Pain Management Clinic: A Quality Improvement Project, Monica Kastanaras

DNP Projects

Introduction—Significance and Background: Aggressive opioid prescription practices play the biggest role in opioid-related behaviors and contribute to an epidemic of abuse. If started on long-term opioid therapy without screening, patients who are high risk for opioid abuse could overdose on their prescribed opioids. Current practice does not follow guidelines on monitoring opioid misuse behaviors utilizing a secondary screening tool for patients on long-term therapy.

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to help clinicians identify whether a patient, currently on long-term opioid therapy, may be exhibiting aberrant behaviors associated with misuse of opioid medications, using the Current Opioid Misuse Measure …
