This comprehensive review explores how integrating religious beliefs into psychotherapy impacts mental health outcomes. Following a structured approach guided by Whittemore and Knafl's (Nov 2005) methodology, the review involves a systematic literature search across academic databases, identifying 25 studies with diverse methods. Results indicate significant enhancements in both psychological and spiritual outcomes when religious beliefs are integrated into psychotherapy, compared to no-treatment control conditions. Compared to alternate treatments, adapted psychotherapy demonstrates a small to medium effect. Particularly in an additive design, while there's no significant superiority in psychological outcomes, there is in spiritual outcomes, emphasizing the potential benefits of incorporating …

Implementation Of An Evidence-Based Toolkit To Improve Colorectal Cancer Screening In A Federally Qualified Health Center, Stephanie Mckithan

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The change in payor fee-for-service to value-based care is creating an opportunity for primary care clinics nationally to adjust their focus to meeting key clinical quality measures during patient encounters. Colorectal screening is one of such quality measures. Previous research has shown that early detection saves lives. The guidelines have lowered the recommended age of initial screening to 45 due to the incidence of colorectal cancer in younger patients. But with all the objectives that need to be met in the limited time of the visit, how can nurse practitioners improve their efficiency? This evidence-based project assessed the implementation of …

Burnout Triggers In The Novice Registered Nurse, Sharon K. Nguyen Jan 2024

Burnout Triggers In The Novice Registered Nurse, Sharon K. Nguyen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Nurse burnout has been strongly associated with decreased patient satisfaction and reduced retention rates in the novice registered nurse. This phenomenon is exacerbating the already rising global nursing shortage. A strong correlation is established between novice registered nurses who endure repeated or multiple triggers, such as unsafe staffing ratios, inadequate preceptorship, and ineffective leadership to those who succumb to burnout. Burnout is a significant problem in the United States, impacting how healthcare is perceived by the public. In 2019 there were more than six million nurses, making up the largest segment of the healthcare population and directly affecting the safety …

Improving Stemi Transfer Times, Beth Anne Geiger Oct 2023

Improving Stemi Transfer Times, Beth Anne Geiger

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Early identification and treatment for the patient experiencing an ST elevation myocardial infarction is imperative. The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have provided national guidelines to standardize the expectation of care for these patients. When organizations are not equipped to perform a percutaneous coronary intervention, the patient requires transfer. Delay in patient transfer leads to increased morbidity and mortality and poor patient outcomes. For this reason, it is essential that non-PCI capable hospitals have a standard protocol that is followed to expedite treatment and transfer of the patient to a higher level of care. This project …
