The Relationship Of Perceived Touch And Self-Concept In Elders, Marilyn Hubbard

The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between perceived touch and self-concept in elders. Johnson's Behavioral Model provided the theoretical framework for this descriptive correlational study. Thirty subjects, who were 60 years or older, and lived in either a nursing home, a retirement home, or an independent living center participated in this study. Data were collected using the Touch Questionnaire and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale and were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation. This descriptive correlational study purported to ascertain the relationships among self-esteem, blame and guilt, and sexuality of infertile young adult women, and to explore the basis for the study the Roy Adaptation Model (1976) was utilized. The convenience sample was comprised of 31 infertile women with diverse conditions who had undergone medical treatments for at least one year. The Infertility Questionnaire (IFQ) of Bernstein, Potts, and Mattox (1985) and researcher-developed questions were used in data collection to assess adaptation of the women to infertility. The purpose of this study was to examine the interrelationships of professional image, organizational climate or domains thereof, professional commitment, organizational commitment, position satisfaction, and the influence of these variables on intent to stay employed. The path analytic model of intent to stay was temporally ordered and proposed that professional image and organizational climate affect intent to stay through professional commitment, organizational commitment, and position satisfaction. Subjects (n = 232) were both male and female registered nurses who worked per diem, part-time, or full-time on all shifts. This correlational descriptive study investigated the relationship between depression, degree of dyspnea, and performance of daily activities in male and female patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The problem was to determine (a) the influence of depression on the degree of dyspnea experienced and performance of daily activities, and (b) the relationship between the degree of dyspnea experienced and the performance of daily activities by male and female patients with severe COPD.

The purpose of this study was to compare the intimacy, spiritual well being (SWB), and self-esteem of couples using natural family planning (NFP) with those couples using oral contraceptives (OCs). 22 couples who were using the Creighton Model Ovulation Method of NFP for 1 year to avoid pregnancy were matched with 22 couples who were using OCs for a least a 1-year period and administered a SWB, self-esteem, and intimacy inventory. Student t-tests were calculated to determine differences in the mean scores of the 3 inventories between the 2 groups. The results showed that the NFP couples had statistically higher …

The purpose of this study is to develop a productivity measurement applicable to home health registered nurses (RNs) by identifying and quantifying the knowledge and ability variables that define productive nurse practice.

A preliminary set of knowledge and ability variables was identified based on content analysis of interviews with local nurse managers and round I of a three round Delphi procedure, using a purposive sample of nurse managers from nationally preeminent agencies. A randomized national sample of 337 nurse managers was then surveyed to determine the relative value and rank of the knowledge and ability variables. These variables were refined …

The purpose of this correlational study was to deter­ mine the relationship of alcohol abuse and achievement developmental tasks in college-age students. Alcohol abuse is defined by four or more drinks at least 3 or more times a week. Developmental tasks for college students consists of three primary tasks: clarifying purpose, mature inter­ personal relationships, and academic autonomy. The sample was comprised of 30 subjects between the ages of 18 to 24 years, classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior, and who attended a major southeastern university in Central Mississippi. Literature on postpartum depression suggests it has long been, and continues to be, a significant emotional disturbance in many newly-delivered mothers. Previous research has identified numerous variables which correlate positively to postpartum depression. The variables were grouped into the following categories; (a) genetic- constitutional, (b) psychological, (c) developmental, and (d ) social-environmental. This study investigated the size of the Practical Nursing schools, the student/faculty ratio, the admission process, the number of program hours as well as individual course hours of each program, specific aspects of articulation agreements in place, and the need for a bridge course and its contents. The purpose of this quantitative and qualitative descriptive study was to examine the differences in mental status at morning and evening hours of the day among elderly nursing home residents and to describe behaviors and environmental cues associated with changes in mental status. Residents, aged 70 to 90 years who were mobile, were selected from a sample of convenience at a 100-bed rural nursing home in West Central Alabama. The Effect Of A Video Presentation And Reference Guide Manual Of Helicopter Safety Instruction On The Knowledge Base Of Medical Transport Nurses, K. Linda Stickney

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of trained transport nurses being oriented to a new helicopter by a video presentation and reference guide manual educational program when compared with trained transport nurses being trained by actual hands-on demonstration. Using a posttest-only design and the t test for independent samples, it was found that the two groups of nurses did not differ statistically (t (9) = 0.318, p < .051).

The family is greatly affected when one member is admitted to a critical care unit. Critical care nurses are in an ideal position to help families cope with the crisis of a critical illness. Those who are knowledgeable of family member needs will provide more compassionate and effective nursing care to both the patient and family.
