Increased Wetting Time Of Methyl Formate-Methyl Acetate Did Not Increase Tensile Bond Strength Of Relined Denture Base Resin, Chalita Tanasamanchoke, Chairat Wiwatwarrapan
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Objective The interface between denture base and hard reline resin can be improved with chemical surface treatment, methyl formate-methyl acetate (MF-MA) solution, by dissolving the relined surface. This study evaluated the effect of various MF-MA wetting times on the tensile bond strength between a non-methyl methacrylate (MMA) based reline material and denture base. Materials and Methods One hundred plates of heat-cured denture base resin (Meliodent®) were prepared according to ISO 10139-2 and randomly divided into five groups: control and four experimental groups treated with CU Acrylic Bond, MF-MA at a ratio of 25:75 by volume, for 15, 30, 60, and 180 …

Lithium Chloride Activates Wnt Pathway And Suppresses Proliferation And C-Fos Mrna Expression In Human Deciduous Dental Pulp Cells, Panarat Rattanaworawipa, Thanaphum Osathanon, Prasit Pavasant, Waleerat Sukarawan
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the canonical Wnt pathway activated by LiCl, a GSK3β inhibitor, on proliferation of human deciduous pulp (hDDP) cells. Material and Methods Human deciduous dental pulp cells were stimulated with LiCl at various concentrations (5 mM, 10 mM, 20 mM). Cell morphology was visualized with inverted transmitted light microscope. Cell viability was determined using MTT assay. The mRNA expression levels were determined by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction. Results LiCl did not exhibit cell toxicity, as evaluated by cell morphology and viability at 24 h. In addition, LiCl …

Taste Perception In Patients Wearing Upper Removable Orthodontic Appliances With Posterior Bite Planes, Sarawan Siripanthana, Chidsanu Changsiripun
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Objectives To compare the recognition threshold of the four taste qualities in patients wearing upper removable orthodontic appliances with posterior bite planes before and after insertion. Material and Methods Subjects who received upper removable orthodontic appliances with posterior bite planes were recruited in the study. Recognition threshold for salty, sweet, bitter and sour was measured using a Modified Harris-Kalmus test. The tests were conducted on three different occasions; T0-one month before appliance insertion; T1-on the day of appliance insertion; T2-one month after appliance insertion. The retest was additionally performed on T1, prior to appliance insertion. Friedman test was used to …

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Background A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase-9 (ADAM-9) is a type I transmembrane protein associated with epithelial differentiation. ADAM-9 is involved in wound healing process by controlling keratinocyte migration and tumorigenesis. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is a useful marker for cell proliferation. Several studies reported increased PCNA expression in oral lichen planus (OLP), but ADAM-9 expression in OLP has not yet been studied. Objectives To compare the expression of ADAM-9 and PCNA in OLP with that in normal oral mucosa and to find correlations between ADAM-9 or PCNA expression and OLP clinical severity. Materials and Methods The expression of ADAM-9 and …

Objective To assess sexual dimorphism and correlation among pharyngeal airway dimensions, bony and soft tissue variables, and skeletal ages. Materials and Methods Four hundred and eighteen pretreatment lateral cephalometric radiographs (183 males, 235 females) of growing Thai orthodontic patients (6-20 years old; mean age, 13.95±3.62 years; divided into 3 skeletal ages, pre-pubertal (CS 1,2), pubertal (CS 3,4), and post-pubertal (CS 5,6)), Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University were collected from 2007-2014. Twelve angular, 13 linear, and 3 area cephalometric measurements were analyzed. Sexual dimorphism was assessed by Studentûs t-test. Pearsonûs and Spearmanûs correlation coefficients were applied to explain variable correlations, including …

Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of physical and mechanical disinfection of P. gingivalis from implant disks and to evaluate bone cells growth and attachment to the disks. Background. Each year, over three million of Americans replacing missing teeth with dental implants. An inflammatory process around an implant that causes bone loss, characterizes peri-implantitis, first diagnosed in the 1980s. The prevalence is approximately 22%. To date, no treatment protocol of peri-implantitis has been proposed. Methods. 207 implants disks. Four different implant surfaces utilized. Disks were contaminated by p. gingivalis and consequentially disinfected by physical means (spraying prophy …

Parental Knowledge & Experience Regarding Their Children's Dental Insurance Following Enactment Of The Affordable Care Act, Bianca Hillers
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Goal and Objectives: The goal of this study is to assess parental knowledge and experience regarding children's dental insurance, following enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA emphasizes the importance of oral health, making pediatric dental services one of ten essential health benefits. With this major change in health care reform, parents should be equipped to make informed decisions regarding their children's dental care and insurance. Data from the first open enrollment period show lack of true mandate and subsequent lack of compliance to this pediatric dental objective. One of our aims was to assess uptake of pediatric …
