Abstract

The aim of the retrospective study was to assess the clinical and radiographic outcome of the dental implant surgery and prosthetics. It was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, and comprised of medical charts and radiographic records of patients visiting between 2010 and 2015. Variables such as implant dimensions, final prosthesis, method of retention, loading protocol and patient factors were analysed. A total of 223 implants (143(64.1%) in maxilla and 80(35.9%) in mandible) were placed in 92 subjects (50(54.3%) males and 42(45.7%) females). All implants were Zimmer tapered screw-vent. Camphorquinone (CQ) is the most commonly used photoinitiator in light-cured dental resin composites. However CQ is associated with a yellowing effect, which has led manufacturers to add alternative initiators into resin composites to reduce the amount of CQ used. The color change upon polymerization by light and aging in artificial saliva and room air of 8 commercial traditional or bulk-fill resin composites with or without additional photoinitiator(s) beside CQ was studied. This study was planned to determine the prevalence of hypodontia in permanent dentition and to test whether an association was present between hypodontia and Angle's malocclusion. The retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital, Karachi, and comprised record of all patients visiting the orthodontic clinics of the hospital from 2005 to 2015. Orthodontic records of 790(79%) subjects, including 189(23.9%) males and 601(76.1%) females, were reviewed. Their mean age was 17 ± 5.06 years. The aim of the present study was to assess the validity of tooth-coronal index (TCI) in the age estimation. This retrospective charts review was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi from January 2016 to March 2016, and comprised 315 teeth of 80 individuals. The teeth were analysed on Orthopantomogram. TCI was calculated for unrestored mandibular premolars and molars. Pearson's correlation was applied to assess correlation between chronological age and TCI. Work-related musculoskeletal pain is common among healthcare professionals, including dentists. This crosssectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among dentists. This study was carried out from January to April 2016 at various teaching hospitals of Karachi, and comprised 230 dentists. A self-administered questionnaire, adapted from a validated Nordic questionnaire, was distributed among the participants. Descriptive statistics were computed and associations of interest were analysed using chi-square test. Of the 230 forms, 182(79.11%) were included after leaving out the incomplete ones. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of oral contraceptives on the incidence rate of alveolar osteitis (AO) following the surgical extraction of both impacted mandibular third molars. This retrospective study reviewed the clinical records of patients who presented to the oral surgery clinic of a university school of dentistry for the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. The purpose of this study was to determine if the use of a theory-based educational intervention would increase the frequency of performing oralhealth assessments (OHAs) during well-child visits among nurses. A randomized experimental design was conducted to determine if the educationalintervention would improve frequency of performing OHAs, in addition to, knowledge, confidence in performing OHAs, and advising parents. Using a non-probability sampling frame, “snowball technique,” a total of 46 participants were recruited. Introduction: This study evaluated the influence of 3-repetition training with a dental anesthesia simulation model (DASM) on the perception of learning by dental students. Materials and methods: Dental students who had never used a dental anesthesia technique were randomly divided into 2 groups that were taught the anterior superior alveolar nerve infiltrative anesthesia technique. Class III malocclusion treatment is challenging to orthodontists because of its genetic basis and tendency for relapse following treatment. In adult patients, this malocclusion can be treated by either camouflage or combined orthodontic and surgical treatment. Since there are complexity in several aspects for Class III malocclusion, particularly in the case where the surgery is required, the aim of this review was to gather information concerning the etiologies, treatment strategies, and treatment considerations, especially for the orthognathic surgical treatment of skeletal Class III patients.

Localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia (LJSGH) is a recently discovered oral lesion in children and young adults, which can be misdiagnosed with gingivitis associated with dental plaque and other well recognized reactive lesions. Clinically, JSGH presents as bright red gingival overgrowth with papillary surface, most commonly at attached and marginal gingivae of the upper anterior region. Differential diagnoses may include pyogenic granuloma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma and hyperplastic gingival inflammation. Histologically distinctive, JSGH is characterized by non-keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium with papillary architecture, intense neutrophilic exocytosis and spongiosis. The objective was to design and fabricate a dental surveyor using fewer complicated custom made industrial metal parts, thus minimizing production cost. The product design allows working with dental casts of varied dimensions. Current products were analyzed using machine design synthesis. Two novel restorative materials, a polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and a resin nanoceramic (RNC), for computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) applications have recently become commercially available. Little independent evidence regarding their mechanical properties exists to facilitate material selection.

This study compared tooth length measurements made on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and 3-Tesla (3T) magnetic resonance (MR) scans performed with and without an alginate bite registration surrounding the crowns of the teeth. Materials and Methods. One CBCT scan, one MR scan with alginate bite registration, and one MR scan without bite registration were performed on 12 subjects. Introduction: Sagittal root position (SRP) of maxillary incisors is an important factor in implant treatment planning. Kan et al defined four classes of SRP in an effort to aid implant placement treatment planning and these SRP classifications represent a novel approach to describing bone changes around the maxillary incisors. The effect of orthodontic tooth movement, specifically changes in inclination, on SRP is of interest in potentially facilitating immediate implant placement.
