Purpose: To determine the number of loosening/tightening preload cycles prosthetic retaining screws can withstand before fracture, and to record the reverse torque values on each of the 10 applications of screw tightening and loosening. Materials and methods: The testing assemblies consisted of 30 temporary cylinder/multiunit abutment/internal connection implants, 10 each from Biohorizons, Zimmer Biomet Dental, and Dentsply Sirona Astra; the specimens were inserted into resin blocks. Secondary trigeminal neuralgia might be very rarely preceded by trigeminal neuropathic pain. The patient, in this case, presented with paroxysmal pain in the left mandible and numbness of the lower lip and tongue. Sensory testing of these areas revealed cold and heat hyperalgesia and mechanical hyposensitivity in the mandibular region. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass in the left cerebellopontine angle. The patient was prescribed systemic mirogabalin (2.5 mg/day), which provided some relief until the tumor was removed. Purpose: Reducing opioid prescriptions after third molar extraction may decrease the risk of opioid dependence. This study compared prescribed morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) in patients undergoing mandibular third molar removal with and without use of liposomal bupivacaine (LB). Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included deidentified data from electronic medical records of patients who underwent extraction of ≥1 partial bony—or full bony—impacted mandibular third molar at 2 oral surgery centers in the United States in 2012 or 2018. BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease is a leading cause of tooth loss, and microRNA (miRNA) has been shown to regulate various biological processes. This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the literature related to miRNA in periodontology and dental implantology and summarize the research hotspots and trends in this field.

METHODS: Literature records from 1985 to 2020 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. After manual selection, the data was used for cooperative network analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and reference co-citation analysis and visualized by CiteSpace.

Maxillary canine is an essential part of teeth for smile esthetic and function. Orthodontic treatment for patient with impacted maxillary canine is considered to be more complex and require good biomechanical control during traction. This case report describes an orthodontic treatment of a 17-year old female patient with unilateral maxillary canine impaction on the left side. Orthodontic traction was used to guide the canine into normal occlusion. The orthodontic treatment had been completed within 19 months and successfully obtained favourable esthetic and stable occlusion.

Streptococcus mutans appears to possess a sole iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster biosynthesis system encoded by the sufCDSUB cluster. This study was designed to examine the role of sufCDSUB in S. mutans physiology. Allelic exchange mutants deficient of the whole sufCDSUB cluster and in individual genes were constructed. Compared to the wild-type, UA159, the sufCDSUB-deficient mutant, Δsuf::kanr, had a significantly reduced growth rate, especially in medium with the absence of isoleucine, leucine or glutamate/glutamine, amino acids that require Fe-S clusters for biosynthesis and when grown with medium adjusted to pH 6.0 and under oxidative and nitrosative stress conditions. Virtually no information is known about the presence or function of miR-365 in oral cancers. Does Alcohol Consumption Protect Against Late Dental Implant Failures?, Brian R. Carr, William J. Boggess, John F. Coburn, Peter Rekawek, Sung Kiang Chuang, Neeraj Panchal, Brian P. Ford

Purpose: Social factors have been implicated in the development of peri-implant pathologies, including implant failure. This study aims to investigate whether alcohol consumption affects late dental implant failures. Methods: A retrospective cohort study evaluated implants placed between 2006 and 2012 at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The primary predictor variable was alcohol consumption, measured as nonconsumption and mild, moderate, and heavy consumption. The primary outcome variable was late dental implant failure. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics were applied, with P <.05 used to define statistical significance. Results: Our cohort consisted of 103 patients and 295 implants with a 5-year minimum follow-up. Most patients were male (93%) with an average age of 60 at the time of implant placement. Late implant failure was associated with 30 implants. Compared to nonconsumption, mild consumption was associated with a 75% decrease in late implant failure (P =.0494), moderate consumption was associated with a 60% decrease (P =.3826), and heavy consumption was associated with a 200% increase (P <.1782). Compared to mild consumption, heavy consumption was associated with an 847% increase in late failure (P =.0135). Conclusions: Results from this retrospective cohort analysis suggest that mild alcohol consumption is associated with a decrease in late dental implant failures.

In this study, poly (d, l-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) composite microspheres containing anhydrous reverse micelle (R.M.) dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) nanoparticles loaded vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were produced using microfluidic platforms. The VEGF-loaded R.M. nanoparticles (VRM) were achieved by initial self-assembly and subsequent lipid inversion of the DPPC vesicles. The fabricated VRMs were encapsulated into the PLGA matrix by flow-focusing geometry microfluidic platforms. The encapsulation efficiency, in vitro release profile, and the bioactivity of the produced composite microspheres were investigated. Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MCS) is a rare high-grade variant of chondrosarcoma. MSC`s represent about 1% to 9% of chondrosarcomas. Less than 500 cases of MCS have been reported in literature, so far. As opposed to other variants, MSC develops outside of the bone in almost third of the cases. Pain and swelling are the most common symptoms at presentation. The overall prognosis of MSC is poor, with frequent distant metastases. Histopathologically, MCS typically exhibits a biphasic pattern consisting of both small cells, and islands of atypical cartilage.
