Context:

Retention of the rubber dam is done with metallic or nonmetallic clamps for isolation. The two types of metallic clamps most frequently used are winged and wingless. The clinical efficacy of both clamps is needed to be compared.

Aim:

The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the postoperative pain and clinical efficacy of winged clamps and wingless metallic clamps in rubber dam isolation of permanent molars in class I restoration.

The innate immune system in vertebrates and invertebrates relies on conserved receptors and ligands, and pathways that can rapidly initiate the host response against microbial infection and other sources of stress and danger. Research into the family of NOD-like receptors (NLRs) has blossomed over the past two decades, with much being learned about the ligands and conditions that stimulate the NLRs and the outcomes of NLR activation in cells and animals. The effect of xylitol versus sugar on caries risk is a rising trend in caries prevention. The dominant explanation for this trend is explained by xylitol’s ability to significantly decrease caries rates in recent studies. To answer the question, in adult patients, what is the effect of xylitol versus sugar on caries risk, we compared previous studies in a literature review. The limitations of these findings include the many intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence plaque accumulation that were not considered. Further research is needed to determine if xylitol alone has caries-prevention qualities.

The purpose of this study is to determine the student perceptions on teaching methods for first year dental students using zoom to teach didactics and preclinical hand skills. Because of COVID- 19 other means of teaching had to be implemented and classes were held remotely. Our aim is to determine student perceptions on retention, understanding and learning of didactic and preclinical hands on lectures. Students felt that didactic lectures through zoom increased their retention and understanding in learning the material. They felt that pre-clinical hands on lectures through zoom decreased their retention and understanding in learning.

Materials and methods: Rats were randomly allocated to three groups: group I (sham control), group II(arthritis) where animals were subjected to arthritis induction using complete Freund’s adjuvant followed by LLLT (0j/cm2), and group III (LLLT) where animals were subjected to arthritis induction followed by LLLT (38 j/cm2). Engineered nanoparticles (NPs) composed of elements such as silica and titanium, smaller than 100 nm in diameter and their aggregates, are found in consumer products such as cosmetics, food, antimicrobials and drug delivery systems, and oral health products such as toothpaste and dental materials. They may also interact accidently with epithelial tissues in the intestines and oral cavity, where they can aggregate into larger particles and induce inflammation through pathways such as inflammasome activation. Objective: To assess the location and anatomical character of lingual foramina using CBCT. Materials and Methods:CBCT records of 108 patients were evaluated to detect the presence, location, size, and number of lingual foraminausing axial, and cross sectional images. Results: A total of 463 lingual foramina (representing 100% of all patients)were found. Individuals had between one and eight lingual foraminaon their jaw, with the majority of cases having four(24.1%). Regarding the size; 336 (72.7%) were ≤1 mm and 127 (27.3%) were >1 mm. Evidence-based recommendations by the American Dental Association and umbrella reviews of systematic reviews are summarized to provide indications for SDF use in primary and permanent teeth, including sound surfaces and those with non-cavitated and cavitated caries lesions. High-quality evidence supports that SDF is an effective treatment alternative for managing active cavitated coronal and root caries lesions and preventing root caries lesions.
