Objectives: The primary goal of this retrospective analysis is to analyze the morphologic changes that occur following extraction in regards to sinus pneumatization.

Methods: The patient population was selected from the VCU School of Dentistry Graduate Periodontics Department. Cone Beam Computed Tomography scans (CBCT) was obtained from patients that had a posterior tooth extracted. A horizontal tangent line was drawn to the inferior border of the nasal cavity, acting as a constant reference point for measuring the extent of maxillary sinus pneumatization. Methods: Teachers, coaches, and athletic trainers throughout the greater Richmond metro area were recruited via email. Purpose: The aim of this randomized, cross-over designed feasibility study is to evaluate patient anxiety, patient cooperation, and patient acceptance of a vibrating weighted vest used during the restorative treatment compared to when no device is used.

Methods: Children aged 5 to 15 years, needing at least two appointments for restorative treatment requiring local anesthesia under basic behavior guidance techniques were recruited. It is difficult to predict the outcomes of non-surgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) for mandibular second premolars with multiple root canals. In these teeth, the complicated anatomy with fin(s), or a C-shape, and possible secondary canal(s) varies unpredictably. The morphology of the root canals provides shelters for bacteria to remain, regrow, and form biofilms despite the endodontic treatment. Moreover, the prevalence of mandibular second premolars with multiple canals is extremely infrequent. Therefore, the clinical management of NSRCT in such cases is not sufficiently reported. Introduction: The human-derived amnion-chorion membrane (ACM) has endogenous antimicrobial properties, which are important for preventing the colonization and survival of oral bacteria on exposed membranes. This project aimed to decipher the underlying mechanism by identifying the components of ACM that confer antibacterial properties. In addition, the antimicrobial efficacy of these identified components on oral bacteria was assessed.

Methods: Four antimicrobial proteins, histone H2A/H2B, cathelicidin LL-37, lactoferrin, and lysozyme, were identified via mass spectrometry in ACM. Proteoglycans (PGs) are a diverse class of glycoconjugates that serve critical functions in normal mechanobiology and mechanopathology. Both the protein cores and attached glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains function in mechanically-sensitive processes, and loss of either can contribute to development of pathological conditions. PGs function as key components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) where they can serve as mechanosensors in mechanosensitive tissues including bone, cartilage, tendon, blood vessels and soft organs. The mechanical properties of these tissues depend on the presence and function of PGs, which play important roles in tissue elasticity, osmolarity and pressure sensing, and response to physical activity. Introduction: Exceedingly high levels of the chemokine CCL5/RANTES have been found in fatty degenerated osteonecrotic alveolar bone cavities (FDOJ) and aseptic ischemic osteolysis of the jaw (AIOJ) from toothless regions. Because CCL5/RANTES seems to have a prominent role in creating the COVID-19 “cytokine storm”, some researchers have used the monoclonal antibody Leronlimab to block the CCR5 on inflammatory cells.

Objective: Is preexisting FDOJ/AIOJ jaw marrow pathology a “hidden” co-morbidity affecting some COVID-19 infections? To what extent does the chronic CCL5/RANTES expression from preexisting FDOJ/AIOJ areas contribute to the progression of the acute cytokine storm in COVID-19 patients?

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the wear characteristics and fatigue resistance of two dental crown materials: SprintRay Ceramic Crown, a 3D-printed resin material, and IPS™ e.Max CAD, a lithium disilicate material. Methods: This study evaluates wear and fatigue characteristics of dental crowns made from Ceramic Crown (SprintRay) and IPS e.max CAD LT (Ivoclar). For fatigue testing, custom fatigue devices were utilized to subject the crowns to cyclic loading, simulating occlusal forces. Objective: This systematic review evaluated how different storage times and conditions affect universal adhesives' bond strength and degree of conversion (DC).

Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases for articles published from January 1st, 2000, until May 15th, 2022. The researchers comprehensively evaluated the articles using a multi-step process to identify articles relevant to the topic of interest. Quality assessment was performed through the ROBDEMAT tool. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate dynamic changes to the genetic profile in human periodontal ligament (PDL) tissue and cytokine release in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) during the first 28 days of orthodontic treatment.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI), an assemblage of genetic diseases with dental enamel malformations, is generally grouped into hypoplastic, hypomaturation, and hypocalcified types. This study aimed to identify the genetic etiology for a consanguineous Iranian family with autosomal recessive hypocalcified AI.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dental defects were characterized, and whole exome analysis conducted to search for disease-causing mutations. Minigene assay and RT-PCR were performed to evaluate molecular consequences of the identified mutation and expression of the causative gene in human dental tissues.

Each program independently determines how to fulfill this task, and little information exists on the consistency of training across programs.
